I just noticed something from the last leaked pics I posted. Both the S10+ and S10 in those leaked pics have a screen protector on. That means the rumors of screen protectors not working with the ultrasonic FP reader are false. Also, there is speculation that these phones will come with factory screen protectors, which is what we may be seeing in these leaks.

View attachment 821167 View attachment 821168

that'd explain why it at first looked like the camera lens was protruding out of the screen (which I knew wasn't the case). This makes more sense and if there is a good factory protector (ideally tempered glass), that'd be great

The leaked spec list of the upcoming phones is quite impressive!

https://www.gsmarena.com/exclusive_...of_the_samsung_galaxy_s10_trio-news-35487.php

Looks like the "e" model will start with 6 GB ram and 128GB storage and have the same screen as the other phones (sans side curve?) but no in display fp sensor

https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/apt356/exclusive_here_are_the_final_detailed_specs_of/
  • 0MP f/1.9 selfie camera - 4K video. dual-pixel AF and maybe OIS

  • super slow-mo capabilities - 0.4s-0.8s of video, twice as long as their predecessors.

  • promised 800 nits of screen brightness

  • Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10 have triple rear cameras (12 f/2.4 45-degree tele / 12MP f/1.5 77-degree regular / 16MP f/2.2 fixed-focus 123-degree ultra-wide)

  • Galaxy S10e is listed as having a regular and an ultra-wide camera

  • 5.8" (2280x1080) / 3100 mah - 6.1" (3040x1440) / 3400 mah - 6.3" (3040*1440) / 4100 mah

  • all models start with a base variant of 6gb/128gb config

I'm very conflicted about the S10e. One thing for certain is the next device I purchase will NOT have a curved display. However, I'd also like to have the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. I wonder how the side fingerprint sensor will be. I guess that'll be the determining factor for me, if having it on the side is an improvement or loss over having it on the back.

While we wait for the S10 here’s a look back at the S line.

Wow, if that is accurate, the S10e is close to the OnePlus and Pixel 3 PPI! That's a pretty significant loss of resolution!

GG keeps getting higher in number but I have yet to see a phone with it that didn't break easy or get all scratched up. Hype,.more like spider monkey glass!

Wow the S10 E also gets a wide angle lens .It's just missing the zoom. That keeps it appealing to me.

But wow, look at 550 ppi on the gS10. It also has a good array of specs overall that don't make me feel I'd be compromising too much choosing it over the S10+. It would be a nice successor to my S9+. Which I plan to keep and not trade away, by the way.

I could go for that S10, especially since iPhone rumors don't have me chomping at the bit to upgrade my SR, which is a very fine phone, mine being quirky notwithstanding.

pretty good trade in prices too! $550 for a Note 8 or iPhone 8 (plus several other models @ the $550 trade in price). I may have to do that with an old Note 8 lying around ;)
Holy Crap! If I trade in my Xr or my 8 Plus they would give me close to what I paid for the Xr (discounted by a trade in). I’d probably trade the Xr because it’s a bit flaky for its kind. If I miss it I can always trade in the 8 Plus next year when the extended warranty is up and get the Xr2. Or not. I may not be into iOS at all anymore, not if Apple saves all the best features for its OLED models and doesn’t change the OLED so that I can safely look at it.

But I really don’t want to be an early adopter and get another wonky phone so I don’t know about this. Samsung always does this to me with the promos. Damn you Samsung.

I suppose I can reserve and cancel if...somebody hit me upside the head with a very heavy cold dead octopus and knock some sense into me.

Make sure you all sign up to reserve the next Galaxy and get some early adopter bonuses. Well, it's actually a reservation to be able to pre-order on March 20th. :D

Oh and thank you for alerting us to that. I think I’m thanking you. Maybe I should be smacking you with the dead octopus. I don’t know. :p

at least "reserving" it doesn't mean you HAVE to buy it. So at least there's a way out... and yes I agree about being a first adopter from Samsung. I pre-ordered the S8 and had issues with pink edges that finally got sorted after getting a few replacements. I know you also had your pink screened saga as well. So hopefully no more of those "early adopter" shenanigans again this go-around.

My S9+ was a preorder and is absolutely fabulous so here's to hoping for more pre-order luck for everyone who decides to do this.

I'll probably do the reservation tonight but I don't know if I will go through with it or not.

I think I will go middle of the road and go for the S10. White.

The problem I might run into is my husband will likely also do this. And last time when we tried to preorder the Note 9 together, Samsung refused to process his preorder that was placed after mine, because both of us were doing trade ins. And they don't accept two trade ins from the same household any more until the first phone is received and processed by them.

To clarify, what happened to us was that they sent him an email telling him his preorder was on hold and would not be processed until the phone I was trading in was received and processed by them. Well my phone was on backorder for weeks, too. He was looking at waiting over a month for a pre-order. Despite iphones being released about a month later, we had our XS-Maxes in hand while people were still waiting on their Note 9 pre-orders.

That got us both so mad along with the long wait for the long backordered model we wanted. I am the one who canceled my pre-order first. As soon as I did that, my husband's hold came off of his preorder but it still remained on backorder even after the opportunity to order the XS Max came up. He cancelled his preorder sometime around the time his XS Max arrived.

I guess I'll go muddle through and look for the fine print and see if they're still at that silly policy again.

Edited for clarity and to update: I can't readily find any prohibition this time on the number of pre-orders with trade-in per household. That doesn't mean it's not buried in there somewhere.

Only thing that interests me is the $550 trade in. That could be tempting. Still dont really want an edge though and not interested in the lite model. Just got my 9.0 pie update so I'm probably good. How much is the middle phone 64GB? Want to see how much it would be w/ the $550 trade in,....but that's from Samsung right? Not TMobile?

I just hope Samsung spent more time on their post-processing software and not focus on hardware too much.
Well I'm getting sort of a preview of One UI on my S9+ . It's good. I prefer the plainness and directness of the Pixel, honestly, but it is actually the hardware of Samsung that I am fond of and keeps me coming back year after year since the Note7, which was a debacle that should have driven me away as that was my first Android phone. Even the S7 that AT&T loaned me to temporarily replace it was dreadful and that definitely should have seen me throw in the towel and go back to iOS exclusively. But none of that fazed me and in fact I was hopelessly intrigued and turned into this crazy phone lady who stands before you today.

I am not a fan of curved edges either, but I've seen enough leaked video footage and pictures to see this is flat enough to suit me.

I'm just trying to figure out which of my phones to trade in and if I want AT&T or unlocked. My husband said to get an unlocked one. But I think we've already discussed on this thread that the unlocked Samsungs don't get nearly enough love.

I'm going to at least register for the preorder. Follow through will be determined later.

Sorry, I was talking about photo post-processing. Even though hardware seems to have declined in past years. Though with their purchase of Corephotonics, I don't think this will be an issue next year. Chinese handset makers and even Google are doing remarkable things, though Google Pixel phones have a post-processing chip in the phone on top of software.

So what is One UI? What does it do?
Eh it's just TouchWiz but skinnier and much better to navigate except I'm still so damned used to my XR I keep accidentally activating Samsung Pay. And it's supposed to help you better interface with other Samsung appliances, but I don't own any except for a TV I rarely use. YouTube has videos that can explain it better than I can. I'm about ready to Zzzz.
