Any idea what you guys will be getting? All three sound good to me, but I'm more curious about storage size. I wish they came out with more than one curved glass model, called it the Edge. Give the flat panel of the S10e onto the S10+ and I'll buy it blind.

Probably the S10 plus. I always go for the biggest size available even though I don't care about the second selfie camera.

However I'm also thinking about the note 9 but I'm sure samsung will manage to convince me to get the S10 plus during the event :D

The only thing I don't like about the curved displays is that they don't play well with screen protectors but the I like the look and the functionality.

Maybe just me but I'm excited about the in screen FPS.

I usually opt for a case with enough of a lip to protect flat falls. I haven't bothered with a screen protector since my S4 or S5.

I seem to recall one of the case manufacturers offering a glass shield that fit flush against the screen with a plastic layer in between to register touches. Though that goes back to 2011-2012, and I might be wrong.

S10+. I can't live without the bigger screen even though I don't like the double cutout for the dual front cameras. I would prefer no front camera at all honestly. I don't mind the curved design of my S9+ it makes it so nice to hold in one hand as its not as wide however I think if Samsung offered a flat screen s10+ it would be my choice too.

Same here, I always go for the bigger version. Will never ever use screen protector, they are ugly, touch screen becomes bit rough and they will peel sooner or later. My S9+ feels and looks lovely without it.

Also gorilla glass 6 will do its job so I guess no need to worry about scratches as long as you are careful with your phone.

Great posts. I'm mostly after the integrated storage over using a microSD for extension. Faster and more reliable, even though Samsung's products are reliable. I found it slightly confusing why GG5 is being used on the 'e' model according to those leaks. Also, Note 8 is getting the Pie update pushed out to most carriers globally according to various articles.

I am leaning toward the largest one right now. But I need to sit down with all the specs lined up in front of me and actually do some math to see where I want to end up spec wise and hey, $$$ wise.

One decision that has been made that I had to reverse from an earlier position is that I will be offering my S9+ in trade after all. My husband is keeping his S8+ for our VR goggles. His at least wasn’t at plagued by pink tint like mine had been. The entire family persuaded me not to trade away any of my newer iPhones because they would take them if I ever totally stop using them. Nobody but I really wants my S9+. Also it’s got only 64 GB onboard storage (I keep persisting in thinking it has 128 GB but that is my Pixel 2 ) Getting $550 for a 64 GB phone in 2019 is pretty sweet.

After taking a long road trip last night I have some further revelations about how I might want my gadget lineup to go but this post is already long so I’ll cut out for now to do and read other things and catch back up with you all later.

Oh one thing I do have my heart set on is a new Samsung Active watch. The renders are so beautiful. The leaked feature set looks great. I just need to pick a color. Silver was love at first sight, but black and rose gold would look great, too.

I think its a good deal too but mine is a GS9 regular size. Dont know how much they are offering for that. Im not seriously considering getting the S10, but if its a smokin deal.....

I also think 64 GB is well big enough since i stick a 64 GB micro card in mine so its plenty of space for me. I have all my pics and videos going to it which takes up most of my space. I dont play many games and think i just have Candy Crush on it which i dont use very often. I have 120 Apps but most arent that big and believe i have like 35 GB still left in storage on the phone. Ill never fill that up. I have almost 6 GB of Music that i have on my Micro card so that dont take up space on the phone or ill stream what isnt on my card.
But thats me.

Ugh, what color to get. I guess white/silver is the easiest to match to every look I am required to pull off for different occasions. But I know I had the most fun coordinating bands to my black Apple Watch.

This is a bit of information I dug up that might be helpful to anyone wondering if they should choose carrier or unlocked version of the S10.

It's from this page and basically the answer is that the unlocked version will always take longer to update than carrier versions due to more lengthy testing needing to be conducted to ensure the unlocked phone performs well across all carriers in it's region.

So, if you're fairly confident you will be staying with your carrier, it's pretty much an easy choice to get the carrier model if you prize updates. In my personal experience with an unlocked S7 this applies even to security updates.

So you will be sending in your S9+ or keeping it? Keeping the iPhones isn't a bad idea. I think you said your kids were teenagers or that most of them were. It isn't a bad idea to keep them in since Apple products are supported for 5 years and then dropped. They'll still be usable in 5 years, and it's not like battery replacements go away. Or accessories for that matter.

I find 64 GB anemic once you add in apps, some games, music, photos, 4K video, etc. Though this is highly dependent on the person. On my S9 I've got about 5 GB of internal space left and I regularly clear out my SD card after I transfer and backup data to multiple cloud services, along with our NASs and tape drives.

128 GB would be nice, but I think 256-512 GB would be the sweet spot for me. Though the 1 TB model is mighty tempting. Plus, Samsung now makes a microSD that's 512 GB and they're working on a 1 TB microSD right now, I think.

I have a lot of books on my phone, too. I read when I'm bored or at work and don't have an e-reader around.

I don't know if this is a general Android issue or a Samsung one. For some reason there's this belief that buying an unlocked phone means you get updates faster. Though I recall Smart Switch power-grabbing any update available through a carrier from Samsung. Say a few days to a week in advance. Not sure if that's true now.

Been with TMobile some 15 years. Sprint sucks so only if they make it worse( with merger) will I leave but I don't like Verizon and not fond of AT&T but that would be the move but don't plan any.

We'll that sux for you since you need to spend more lol. I don't read books and don't have any 4K stuff on mine. Hec I only have a couple movies period saved. Not a movie buff and I have a Amazon box with Kody that gets everything anyways. The music, pics and the couple games I have, 64 GB is fine for me. Hec even a 128 GB card is cheap, alot cheaper than getting a bigger phone capacity.

I wouldn't worry about getting any updates anyway except for security. Surprised I got Pie on this. I'm also not one to care about having the latest updates. Pie is a bit different but it's not earth shattering stuff. Battery isn't any better. Cool but could live with 8.0.
If you get the S10 it will be a year before/if you get a OS update. I never saw a 8.1 or anytbing, just had 8.0 til I got 9.0. Never got an update on my GS7.
Get security updates though.

That's good news. These flagships should get at least one update since it's a year from release for the next one. Don't know why I didn't get one on my GS7.
GS7 shipped with Marshmallow and updated to Nougat and now Oreo. Marshmallow came out in fall of 2015. The phone came out in March 2016.

The major issue that stands in the way of more updates is Qualcomm who won't develop SoC drivers after X amount of years. Apple doesn't have this problem because they don't use Qualcomm patents for their SoC apart from Qualcomm modems. Apple does use patents from ARM, the company. They pay a fee on that, but because they design and develop their own SoC, they're not beholden to Qualcomm's whims.

This falls in line with the theory that Google's been working on their own SoC for their own use and then selling it to Android OEMs. They've been poaching Apple, Qualcomm, Intel, Broadcom and NVidia since 2013. They already have hardware they designed and developed. Their first chip went from design to use in a product in 13-15 months. That's record setting compared to the typical industry standard.

While Google is mainly an ad space company, they've been making a foray into services and hardware for a long time. Which is odd given that Apple is going into services since it costs less money in R&D and has a recurring payments system.

Netflix is supposedly the only company whose algorithms know what viewers want, when they want it and how they can pack more data down a pipeline without upsetting their bottom line too much.

Crazy stuff.
[doublepost=1550369822][/doublepost]What I want out of Samsung's UI is the ability to take a screenshot without resorting to two-button combos. Q addresses this with the pressing of the power/screen button, but it should be easier than that. Gesture, perhaps. I also wish Samsung or Google brought in native screen recording with sound, and ability to customize how it records, like heartbeat taps.

@Zenithal I will be sending in the S9+. I'm a bit nervous about it because it's a perfect specimen and once it's gone ..it's gone. If they send me a lemon and I send it back I won't get back the S9+ nor get to apply it's value to a replacement, if I understand the terms correctly. So I best rigorously test the new phone before sending in the S9+.

I like the way Google does these trades better but Google doesn't offer as much money for trades.

My entire family is voting for the rose gold watch. I remain undecided.

I had my GS7 for 18-20 months. Maybe I did get 7.0 and just don't remember. I just don't see big differences in the softwares. Just looks a little different. But then I'm not really into phones like some here. I can keep mine for 18-24 depending on when I get it in it's release time and always only have 1 lol. I don't care about benchmarks or what chip it's using though I don't want an old chip. Just don't care if it has the snapdragon 835 or 855 for example.

There is a Nokia 8.1 that has the SD 710 that id buy and those are only $299 unlocked on Android 9.0
Now a days they are all pretty quick and I don't worry about micro studders.
What Apple does is irrelevent to me. They can update 9 times a year but it still will be behind in software and still isn't as open / customisable and do what Android can do.

I really think this is YMMV I have always had unlocked phones since 2003 :) and certainly over the last 3 years I cannot recall my upgrades being any slower than you guys postings from various carrier updates in the US :)

Even now my wifes S8 unlocked from the Middle East is upgraded yet my friends S8 from Malaysia is not, my youngest S9 unlocked in UK upgraded just a few days before my Malay Note 9

I seem to remember more people complaining on the forums that "X" US carrier was sitting on updates than the reverse and given our international unlocked S's are dual sim you would think from that posting they would be months behind :D

Whilst I find the whole argument on "carrier bloat" a trivial thing as they never consider some native apps on some OS's are bloat for some :) for those that are bothered by bundled apps the unlocked versions are normally the least impacted so there could be some pro's too :)

Huge performance leap from 6 to 7.

Fuchsia is probably going to come as a replacement to Android. Not a lot about it is known, though. It should fix whatever issues Android has.

Technically, Google may try to go down the Apple path in the future with direct updates, and the OEM layer can install on top of it once carriers can certify the Android version. The reality is there's next to nothing OEM wise that a carrier needs to check out. It's merely a UI layer on top of Android. The base Android operates the phone and its internal components. And very few parts of the OS need to communicate with the radios systems on a phone.

The gravity of the situation is that Google ****ed up and ****ed up big time a decade plus ago when they decided what OEMs would do.

Once Qualcomm is placed aside a lot more headaches will go away. Whether Google comes out with a SoC or Qualcomm sees their empire chipped away by OEMs with manufacturing capabilities (think SoC, image processors, TPUs, et al.) or they're done away with a manufactured problem that won't come to light until years later and causes them irreparable harm in infrastructure and monetary means.

I don't think you'll get a lemon. Though I understand the issue with giving a phone up. It's a piece of you. Probably why I keep every phone I've ever had. As in the last 30ish years unless it wasn't my property. As for the rose gold, what's the holdup? The color and how it'll match or...? Rose gold has been used in fashion and jewelry for a long time. It only gained more prominence in the last fifteen or so years. I've even pondered buying a rose gold Omega. Done right, it looks less pink and more earthy in tone. Depends on the metallurgy of the piece.

Edit: Oh, wait, was the lemon comment tongue-in-cheek humor for the canary yellow S10e?

Yeah, won't deny that at all. I've never liked how Apple introduce features so late to their devices. No one gives a damn about emojis or stickers.

You can swipe your palm across the screen to take a screenshot on Samsung Galaxy phones.

Ah you're right I was being US-centric. Sorry! My info came from the help pages for US customers. We have US unlocked phones available to us from the Samsung online store. International unlocked versions are sometimes available from Best Buy and Amazon for us, plus other smaller merchants.
