I was in the process of switching over so that instead of a main line dedicated to an iPhone and a secondary to an Android, I would go with Pixel 3XL and Samsung. But I’m waiting to see if my 3XL will continue to be as reliable as my Xr is. My husband has had results that make me cautious.

My S9+ definitely is a solid proven device as a phone and a computer, but it is about to be traded for the S10+, which in turn will have to prove itself to me and represent for Samsung all over again.

I remember what it’s like to have only one phone line, so I definitely do understand any hesitation to leave iPhones. I never found them particularly good as actual phones until getting the Xr, though. And now that my iPhone’s modem is as reliable as iOS generally is across the board, it’s hard to let go.

And I’ll be honest. If the XS Max had not given me connectivity problems and migraines, and had been the same good phone my Xr has been (despite battery strangeness), I would not have thrown myself as fully into Android as I am attempting to do.

But for me personally, I can’t be paying those XS Max prices and have WiFi connection issues and LTE connection problems and have a display that causes me to develop nasty crippling neurological symptoms. Also Siri needs to work better. Jeez they had a head start of years and they really blew it. It shouldn’t just be keeping up. It should be leading the pack.

I think iPhones are going to be the best again eventually but they literally make me sick. They might fix that but they improve in such small increments, I’m not going to wait for that. Also honestly, there’s so much about Apple right now and the tone set by its management that really gets on my nerves. Stop shaking me down for the change I found in my sofa cushions while you kiss up to an Orwellian regime, TC.

I am getting the ownership fatigue too. The iPhone 8+ cost significant $ for a "flagship" phone in 2018. Yet, it didn't really move the needle much from the 7+. The biggest waste of $, at least for me, was buying the iPhone 6S+ 128gb model at full retail price back in 2015. The only two Apple devices I really truly enjoyed over the years are the 2015 MBP and the Apple Watch.

My MBP is starting to demonstrate decent wear and tear. Given how Apple treats its laptops, I am not re-upping with another Mac. I took the plunge to get rid of my iPad Mini for a Surface Go, which came from a product line that gave me tons of issues in the past w/ QC issues and software bugs galore.

The Go restored confidence in Microsoft/Windows ownership for me. I just get "more" for my $ w/ more RAM, x86 programing, enhanced biometrics, awesome accessories, etc. I wouldn't want to buy an iPad Pro to get what I do for the most part w/ a Surface. That decision really worked for me.

Back to the smartphone side. So I only paid $500 for my XS Max. The phone works well and does everything I need: core smartphone functions w/ reliable support and performance. But it doesn't do exactly what I want. I have a large display that cannot use two apps on the same screen or offer PiP support, like an iPad. I cannot mirror hockey games from my iPhone to my Sony TV w/o an AppleTV. I am constrained to iTunes if I want to change my ringtones w/ custom music in a file library. I cannot expand my storage at will. Apple utilizes resources for gimmicks, such as Animoji and Memoji. For the price, the phone does what it needs to. I shouldn't really be complaining, but here I am...

With Samsung, I told myself two things: performance near stock Android and a flat display. Here we are another generation later and I am about to take a plunge with a company I dreaded after my S9 experience. Yes, I can get a customizable OS experience, predictive dialing, Samsung Pay, split-screen apps, PiP mode, cut iTunes out, etc. But I am also fearful that Samsung could create hassles with bugs not being fixed in a timely manner and having a poor update schedule. Plus, I feel like Apple might return back to form with iOS 13. But it's a huge unknown. Samsung is a known experience and could be exactly what I hope for in their devices: software + hardware harmony.

Generally if someone is having second thoughts moving to Android they are not ready to make the switch yet. Nothing wrong with sticking to your XS Max, it's a great phone!

I think I am ready. I think 4 outcomes could occur with the S10E I ordered.

1. I love the S10E and I sell all my iOS products to save money, like my original plan.
2. I want to stay w/ Android, but I am miserable with the S10E and will look to grab the OnePlus 6T.
3. I like the S10E enough to stick with it. Apple announces a kickass iOS 13 and I decide to move to the iPhone XR.
4. I really dislike the S10E performance and decide to stick with the iPhone XS Max.

I don’t think number 4 will be an issue. One Ui on my Note 9 is pretty dam smooth and slick so I can only imagine it’ll be better on newer hardware.

I also had a boatload of connectivity issues when I had my Max. I actually had to hit airplane mode several times just to get it to reset signal. Never had that with an iPhone before.

I didn't have issues to the extent that some were reporting but I did have issues with weak signals in areas. But the biggest issue by far was the poor Wifi range. I would drop Wifi connections in my driveway where my Note 8 would still have a full signal.

I don't use themes very often, but from discussion in a Note 9 thread, Night Mode doesn't work with custom themes on the Note 9. Not sure if that specific device, or just the way it is on One UI.
But you can use custom icons with Night Mode :) just not themes

question regarding the new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor;

do Bank Apps need to be updated for this new fingerprint sensor, or do you expect login to your bank account with this new fingerprint sensor can be done without a software update made by the banks?

(sorry, I am a n00b in this)

That new fingerprint sensor tech looks AMAZING..

I really hope Apple either goes back to a sensor with tech similar to that in the screen (unlikely) or does FaceID + tech like that, all in one device.

There are a lot of contexts where finger authentication is vastly superior, or at least preferable, to FID.

I'm still on an SE and love TouchID.
Having it be "in the screen" would be even better.

I’ve had to do this with my XS Max a couple of times, but only when I’m in an area with low signal strength (1x bar). And for some ridiculous reason Verizon refuses to send SMS/MMS over WiFi.

I was keen on the S10e plus but after receiving an iPhone 8 as a work phone this week, I will stick to large phones.

Holding a small phone is refreshing and the browsing experi nice doesn’t feel cramped. The biggest con is apparent when typing. I rarely do phone calls and send countless of message everyday and the iPhone 8 feels cramped to type on.

With a bigger phone I install SwiftKey and can slam keys without perfect precision and hardly any words would need correcting.

the S10e does seem to have a pretty decent screen size jump over the iPhone 8. maybe the e is still big enough? just a thought

I would get a 10se if they had a 14 day return policy, not prepared to fork out $1200 here and find out i don't like it, then have to sell it used for $1k.

Yeah, I can agree with that. I recently ditched my two homepods and went with Sonos. For the price of two homepods I picked up 3x Play:One and a Beam. The hardest part was trying to figure out where to place the One(s). I have two in the bedroom and one in the kitchen, and am wondering if I really need that stereo pair in the bedroom....I have considered getting a home hub and placing it on a side table, but right now I can’t control my Sonos with it. Hopefully Sonos finishes their Google Assistant integration soon!

Great gear sonos have been using for years, Sub/playbar and 2 x play 1 in our longe room, 2 x play 5 in our family room and daughter has a play 3 in bedroom, never a issue.

I might go XR for a work phone.

Depends who you bank with.
Barclays (who I bank with) still won't use biometric log in for Android.

Still left using a passcode all these years on whereas iPhone got FaceID log in pretty soon after X launch. And before that they let iPhone users use Touch ID.

Its thick for 2019 flagship phones. As for 10+ the screen looks wider proportionally shaped and slick, i knew Samsung won't dissapoint us with s10 and s10+.

The only disappointment was Samsung offered $470 credit for my S9+ 256 GB if i purchased s10+ 128GB.

What's special about Swiftkey? I've always stuck with the default keyboard. It works for me and my large hands.

Videos like these popping up. Samsung hit a 6 straight over the pavilion with the 10 series.

Decent sit down thought pour out. The LED tree in the background is a bit distracting. He's right on about all accounts.

Saw the 10e and S10 in Best Buy today. The 10 e is actually pretty cool. Looked like the same specs just with 2 camera lens instead of three and a bit smaller. But just wanted to say the S10 in white was beautiful. It wasn't what I'd call a bright white, but some beautiful color of a slight off white.
Also had the blue one. Really nice as well and it's lighter than my blue S9, which I liked.

They had screen protectors on them but haven't read what kind. Nice fit but think they are plastic? Don't know.

Since I've decided not to get one, I did mention before that my Son needs another phone and went there to look at the phones they had.
Ended up ordering a Huawei Mate SE from Amazon. Only $219 and had the best reviews of all the phones I was looking at and is the newest one for less money than others.

Sorry that's false information about Barclays.

I have been using my fingerprints as authentication on my Barclays Banking app since March last year on my S9. Again, it is still available on my Note9.

I suspect the handset you have been using aren't deemed safe enough by Barclays.

Knox seems to tick their security box.
