I was in town earlier and found myself wandering into CarPhoneWarehouse for another look at the S10's.
I had my partner with me the last time I looked at them, and found myself rushed along considering he couldn't care less about tech - so I had free run this time. :D

Well, I left much more impressed this time when I first looked at them.

So much so that I have just placed an order for an S10 in Prism Black.
(The weakness is real...)

I was really impressed with what I saw. Well, when I eventually got to see it.
I went to the big CPW and there was an S10 bay with no phones in sight. No Pixel 3's, no iPhones, no nothing. The guy said that they had £20k of phones stolen that week, so they've decided to stop putting demos out on the shop floor.

I know that was a problem from when I worked there part time 2 years ago as a second job to help afford moving house!

Anyway, I asked for the one out the back to play with, (an S10 plus) - he brought me an S10. Which was dead. So great all round haha.
However when holding it, I found the size to be pretty much perfect. I have small hands, and it just felt fantastic. It was the first time I'd held it properly rather than it being bolstered down to a bench which they normally are in these stores.
Even though I couldn't turn it on, I just loved the size and feel. I whipped my XR out and the footprint is nearly identical, so I know it's the perfect size for me.

I wandered over to Currys across the road who have a CPW in it and they had theirs out on display.
I spent a good 15 minutes with it and was just blown away.

I changed the nav to One UI which I found I liked a lot. It will take a little time to get used to it, and swipes up didn't always register - particularly with the 'back' gesutre, but it was a bolstered down unit so that didn't help.
When I took my XR out to read a message I got, it looked clumsy.
When I was buying my XR, so many people used to go on about the 'bezels' and I just couldn't understand it. Yes, there are sides around the phone that are thicker than the XS / Max, but I never got the criticism. Until I played with the s10.
I was actually shocked to the point where I now cannot unsee them!

The screen is gorgeous, I love that YouTube has finally brought a dark theme to the Android app which iOS has had for ages, I am excited to get free ear buds (even though I love my Air Pods) and I'm actually stunned that the S10 was only £50 more than my XR was and in direct comparison (only aesthetically), it looks streets ahead. I also managed to get it on interest free through Currys, which I am made up with as that means I can keep my iPhone and not have to trade it up to get this. I can decide which one I like and have the luxury of choice.
If I like the S10 enough to keep it, I'll sell my iPhone and use the funds to pay off a chunk of the S10.

I was really undecided on colour - I saw the Prism Green in the flesh as the S10e that was next to the S10 was in that colour way and I really liked it. But I have this thing where my wallpapers have to be the same colour as the back of my phone (don't ask) and my yellow XR has been a pain to get wallpapers for, as was my Pixel 2 in Kinda Blue, so I didn't want to reduce my options again by having to stick to green wallpapers! I know that's silly, but a pink / purple wallpaper isn't going to match the green back - and I know I don't look at the back but it's my only OCD I have haha.

I saw the Prism White in another store and I really wasn't keen on that one. Personal preference, but it just wasn't a favourite of mine.

So there we have it. A trip to look has ended up in a purchase!

I will be looking into the Watch Active, as not being allowed my phone on me at work is something the Apple Watch is a God send for, and with it being so affordable I might end up picking it up when it releases. I will see how I get on with no watch in the weeks between receiving the S10 and the launch of the watch.

Roll on Friday then hey?!

Maybe a dumb question but i know the device addiction freaks(like me ;)) here will know the answer.

Scenario:
I have an XS Max on ATT Next-due for an upgrade on the new iPhone cycle
My wife has an X that is paid off and ready to upgrade

Can I use her upgrade (she wont be changing phones for a couple years or more), take the sim out of the S10+ with her phone number, take the sim out of my XS Max and put into the S10+ and she continues to use her X with no problem?

Just not sure what to do with my XS Max besides pay off and sell....meh.

Once you do the upgrade your carrier doesn't care which phones have what SIM cards in them.

You don’t even have to do that, just tell the at&t rep your doing a cross upgrade and you won’t even have to mess with her sim. I do this all the time, I have 10 lines.

I match backgrounds to phone colors, too. The thing to keep in mind about Samsung, well at least for the US, not sure how it works in the UK, there's a theme store. They have categorize themes and wallpapers and icons by color. There are other classifications in their search filters, too. They've kept me well stocked with purple backgrounds for my last two purple Samsungs.

For my yellow Xr, I've used my own photographs. I've gotten good at spotting scenes that would work well as wallpapers. I have one of a very unique stained glass chandelier in a restaurant and I zeroed in predominantly on the yellow glass and photographed it.

Excellent! Thank you all for the feedback.

Now thinking about it I may do the unlocked, 25 months no interest with BB on my card and not even hassle with ATT.

Still would need to sell my XS Max but whatever.

Nervous about the plunge back to Android and the “ewwwwwww you have green texts now???” Lol

FYI, if you go the unlocked route WiFi calling probably won’t work.

Also, they have a trade in special right now where you can get $550 for trading in the iPhone XS Max, so depending on what you can get for it that might be a better option. You can also see how much it would be to simply pay and upgrade early.

Just watched my first unboxing of the prisim black. Good to see as all the videos so far seem to have been of the white model.

Looks like Samsung bundle a clear case in some countries. Here’s hoping the UK is one of them..

Does anyone know if Samsung colour match the free buds? I’ll take white, but would prefer black.

This will eventually be a background for my Flamingo pink. For the first month or so, though, I’m using one of the robot ones.

Very good to know, re: unlocked version.

I hope you all get your Samsungs on launch day.

I am watching and waiting and cannot wait to read your reviews.

@GrumpyMom that's an awesome wallpaper.

Yeah, it sucks because AT&T is the one blocking that feature from unlocked phones. So far I have only seen the pixel 3 as an unlocked phone having WiFi calling on AT&T. Guess google struck up a deal with them.

It might be possible Samsung may have struck a deal too, but so far none have worked and I would wait until it’s confirmed to have it or not before getting the unlocked model.

iPhones as well, but yeah. Pixel 3 seems to be only unlocked android to work so far.
