I’m a bigger is better person so I’ll always go for the biggest phone available.

Apparently the ultra might have a 16GB ram version.
Samsung is pulling put off the stops for this phone! The hardware specs are overwhelming. I truly hope they pair this with a new camera software as well. I am amazed by all these rumors! I hope they are all true.

I see a S20 Ultra in my future....wonder if they will have new colors too?

What do you consider ridiculous? I'd say $1099-$1199 is gonna happen.

With everything they’re packing in this phone, I think that price is about right. And I’ll pay it as long as the trade in values are around what they were before and the preorder bonuses are worth it. If they aren’t, I’ll wait a few months for the inevitable price drop.

In the past couple of days, some links say 8gb ram & 10x optical, another says 12gb & 5x optical, then another up to 16gb with 10x optical and 100x hybrid. They can’t all be true, so I’m not getting carried away. And we all know specs on paper aren’t everything.

Let’s be honest, anything over 8gb of ram is probably overkill to begin with. Samsung is known for constant spec bumps so I would guess it’s 10 or 12 gigs of RAM, but if it’s not, 8 is still plenty.

Exynos camera quality in Europe is shocking!! Every Samsung I’ve tried like note 8, note 9, s10 plus etc has been dreadful especially indoors.

snapdragon variants are far superior, this puts me of paying so much money for an inferior product.

Yes, I'm a bit on the fence on this... I really could use an s7e upgrade, I can't seem to bring my pixel over to that line. I think if I was to go to get an un rootable device, it'd probably be a Samsung and might as well go for it since I've held on to the S7 for so long.

Kind of a shame there is not many players in the smartphone market anymore

Curious, why is rooting so important to you still?

Ad blocking?

Pretty much that and to have more control over something I've paid money for... Kind of a philosophical thing I guess. I'd prefer to have control over my devices and not someone else. And to have options. But I think root is eventually going to go away. And I'm getting past the point of wanting to maintain root on all my devices, hence a daily driver I don't tinker with and not have to worry about I suppose. I'll tinker more with my pixel devices.

Camera specs for all 3 versions confirmed. Anyone that claims camera is the most important reason for their choice of device, the Ultra is a no brainer

Eh, I still think software processing is more important than megapixels and lens options. But if Samsung has improved in that area then I fully agree.

Fair enough. For me, rooting in the early days of Android was a must because of the lack of features and functionality. But in the past 3 or 4 years the benefit of rooting stopped outweighing the pain of updating and maintaining root.

I think my Note 10+ takes some of the best pics in the business. There's a reason it won mkbhd's blind test. It has an amazing camera. But of course, that caused a lot of blind loyalists of other brands to scramble looking for an explanation, and excuse the results. A complete desperation move. The fact is, I would easily take the current Note 10+ image quality, with the upcoming camera hardware of the S20 Ultra, over anything in the market right now. When I see an established OEM like Samsung, offering high end hardware, I know where my money is going. The OS software as well as the camera processing, is top the industry. So there's no reason to expect the camera software is going to be worse than what's in the Note 10+. It's only gotten better with each new device. So the argument about software experience, and camera software being important, is way past its due date. The top dogs all have buttery smooth, intuitive software. At this point, if an OEM is going to charge me over $1000, they better damn well bring me the hardware to back up the price. I don't want to hear how I'm being charged for the "software experience," as I'm charged over $1000 for 64GB of storage, 4GB Ram, and a small, nothing ground breaking, image sensor. Haaaayyll No! In fact, I truly feel sad for consumers who still fall for this BS.

I've heard of the difference in battery between the chips but not camera quality. I've taken many good pictures on Exynos Notes and S10, indoors and outdoors. Down to the user, not the chip.

If you look at my previous posts here, you’ll see that I regularly defend Samsung. I think they have the best hardware on the market by some distance and their software has improved greatly since One UI was introduced. I also said the Note 10 plus was the best phone of 2019. So I’m hardly a Samsung hater or someone who’s overly critical of them.

I also agree that the Pixel was overpriced and the specs they put in it are laughable for a 1k flagship device. But that has nothing to do with what we were talking about, does it?

Those are all arguments that I didn’t make and are separate from what we were discussing. And that is camera quality. Samsung (and most cameras in 2019) all look pretty great in good lighting conditions on still images. Some lean warmer, some cooler, some more saturated, but all in all pretty great. The big difference I see is when taking pictures of moving images (like kids). With Pixels I would never see a blurry shot. The post processing was always able to isolate a clear shot and give me something that looked great. The iPhone does a good job in this regard as well but lags behind a little. My last Samsung the s10 plus (still my favorite android device ever) really struggled in this area and I would constantly get blurry photos. You can rant about how software doesn’t matter in the camera experience all you want, but that’s clearly wrong.

The poll by MKBHD that you mention was all on still subjects or scenery which doesn’t account for a lot of ways people use their cameras. It was fine as a fun experiment but it was hardly the end all be all of camera comparisons.

Latest rumor from Ice universe on Twitter is saying that 120 Hz will be limited to FHD. That’s very disappointing to me.

Some cracks are starting to show. Seems like it might still be using the old fingerprint scanner and refresh limited to lower resolution would be really dumb.

The FPS could still be an improvement over 2019 phones. I noticed a big difference between the S10 & Note 10.
