To me it is. There was a real world test of 1440P vs 1080P with negligible difference between the two so ramping up to 120 Hz must have had some negative effects.
How and why does there have to be negative effects exactly? I mean Samsung gives choices to change your display resolution...so why not offer the same choices here? Just like display brightness. They offer adaptive brightness so it can change the display brightness depending on the surroundings. Why could that be the same sort of thing?

No one is sure as to why Samsung is only allowing FHD 60 Hz, FHD 120 Hz, and QHD 60 Hz options on the new S20’s.

exactly my point...unless I read your first post wrong.....you seemed to say there was some negative reason?

Why else would they do that haha? There has to be a negative reason or else they would have given us our cake and allowed us to eat it too.

Gotta be battery or more likely flickering at lower brightness similar to what Pixel struggled with.

so why is that negative? They are doing it for power management.....so HOW is that in anyway negative? geesh...people complain about everything.

I don't think the technology is there yet. 120hz in 1440p exists for LCD but not AMOLED. The Asus rog phone 2 that had the first 120hz AMOLED display is only 1080p. I'd imagine next year they'll be able to pull it off.

Haha, there’s a big difference between 508 PPI and 382 PPI, especially on a PenTile AMOLED display but ok.

I read it as they take it as an indication of how good the Note will be in general. Especially coming from a previous Note.

My prediction for the next Note

7.2- 7.5 inch screen size ✅
Same processor as S20✅
s pen of course✅
Premium or better colours than S20✅
Upgraded cameras ✅

Won't be massive upgrade from s20 to the next Note.

I guess you could say the same about going from the S10 to S20 too, but I tend to sit on the optimistic side 😁
The Note 20 (if it's called that) will have a few more months to add extras, I'm keen to see if UFS 3.0 micro SD will be supported this time round.
The Note tends to look a bit better in my opinion, any slight niggles with the S20 will hopefully be ironed out when the Note whatever hits.

Sounds like the One Plus 8 Pro will in fact have WQHD 120 Hz. Hopefully Samsung will change this later on with a software update.

This is what makes it more odd. Oneplus get their displays from Samsung so if they can do it why cant Samsung? Before I mentioned either battery issues or flickering at lower brightness. But it could be that they need to save something for the Note series and they've decided to make this one of those things.

The next question would be, will their be an option in dev settings similar to the Pixel 4 XL to force 120Hz all the time (even with QHD resolution)?

do we know for sure they'll have a 1440p 120Hz mode? or be similar to what Samsung is doing? I haven't seen the latest rumors this week, haven't had a chance to catch up.
