The colors do look very boring this year, and I'm not a fan of the dual section setup of the Ultra.

What's left to discover on Tuesday 🤷🏾‍♂️

But then in blind tests the Samsung (Note 10+) pictures of people win out over other phones. So not so sure it is just the Koreans.
Do you mean the mkbhd test? Because there were hardly any images on that for a fair test. Samsungs are known for skin smoothing and the fact they're a Korean company and Koreans like it that way is a good reason why they take the pics they do, regardless of anyone's personal preference.

well to be fair 6 million people voted and there were portrait shots included in the pictures that were voted on and the Note 10+ and 10+ shots were voted best.
But I personally don't think you can lump a race of people's preferences based on the pictures a smartphone takes. I think Samsung as a global conglomerate tries to produce a product that will sell in their target demographics. Not just for their own country. Then the people that voted in this blind test were not just Korean.

How do you know this?

It's kinda like saying the Ferrari is made by Italians....so all Italians like sports cars and drive fast.

I chuckled at that blind camera test. It was accurate yet so misleading at the same time. The Note 10 takes amazing pictures in the right settings. Like when I was at Virginia Beach last September, it took amazing pics of the ocean. But then I tried taking selfies and portrait mode pics at a wedding, and the results were embarrassing. The highs are high and the lows are low. Nowhere the consistency of the iPhone 11 Pro or Pixel 4.

So if there’s anything Samsung can do or what they need to announce is something to do with post image processing. If they don’t, then I won’t even be paying attention to Samsung phones until they do. They could put a million megapixels in their cameras and I still won’t care.

I think the Pixel 4XL and Google has the best post processing algorithm in the business bar none!
Agreed that megapixels alone is not the answer and that Samsung needs to work on their software especially for motion shots.

I think you're missing my point. And regardless of who likes what or what results came of a test, Samsungs smooth out details on people which is a very well known fact.

Obviously just a one shot sample but to me the S10 picture is much better. The S20 picture is softer and blurry in spots.

This is also probably using pre-release software.

Maybe pre release software....
It seemed to be Christmas time.

Much better to judge quality when handsets are given to reviewers for testing. And even then, it probably won’t be final release software. I can’t see Samsung adding all these new features and the quality being worse. That would be an epic failure.

I do specifically remember an article though (probably 9 to 5 Google) that talked about because of how the tech is different to all other phones, a few select scenarios would likely produce pics not quite as good. Would take far too long to find a link.

Ok, @jamezr posted a link to the article that talks about how certain situations might not be as good.

The colour temperatures are so different. The S10 is brighter and the S20 seems more contrasty.

Im sure the quality will be better than the S10. The software processing wont take a step back and the sensors are better. How much better will be the question.

Samsung now has the most meaningful naming system. As soon as you hear S20, S21, S22, etc..., you know exactly which year the phone came out. S20 means 2020 release, and so forth. Makes more sense than any other phone naming scheme. It definitely helps the everyday consumer who doesn't follow tech on which release is the newest.
So the S10 came out in 2010?:eek:

Will be interesting to watch for sure, I will be in a meeting, but hopefully can watch later tonight. Just know that Samsung keynotes are terrible compared to apple presentation wise.
