I'd love to know how you got the impression it's more optical than digital from that article.

Lets be honest, it's very clear hes a Samsung fan. Nothing wrong with that at all. But take some of the "facts" he posts with a grain of salt.

In my experience any combination of digital/optical zoom is not going to product results you will be very excited about. Sure this could change but right now digital zoom or a hybrid using digital is just not very good. As a rule of thumb I dont go beyond optical zoom for anything I want to be clear.

I think up to around 10x is OK if you really have to get a picture and you're simply too far away. But it's not going to be fantastic.

I'll only use a touch of digital zoom on a compact for the same reason but 9 times out of 10 I'll stick with optical and crop. Feel less dirty that way!

The 50x on the P30 Pro, I only used a couple of times to show examples of how far away I was. Never for anything I intended to use. 100x I'd only use for the nice woman down the street when I can't find my telescope. ?

I currently have a Pixel 3 XL and am seeing the first impressions videos for the new S20 and I have to say I'm tempted. However for me I like having the latest version of Android on my phone and I also like to take photos so the camera is important to me. I'm sure the new S20 will have a far superior camera than the current Pixel 4 and even likely the Pixel 5. I still have until October to decide what phone I'll get next upgrade cycle.

I’m still holding out too see some good camera shots. Surely the demo units must go in stores this week?

Talking about the Galaxy Z Flip here. 8% more screen area vertically over the S20. 1% less screen area for 16:9 content. No 120 Hz display and only 425 PPI. S20 has 563 PPI at 60Hz and 422 PPI at 120Hz. Never mind an older SoC and less ram. Unfolded it’s not a useful display, much less when it’s folded and super thick in my pocket. I don’t understand this product and especially not priced $380 more than the S20. Am I the only one thinking this?

Article: The Galaxy S20 Ultra’s 108-megapixel camera has officially blown my mind

Please never post articles by BGR, lol. They are a terrible, terrible tech site.

But I'm with you, I'm really interested in seeing what this camera can do. I really want to test one in stores to see the post processing on moving objects. That might away me.

They are are bad...and always seem to love everything that is made by Apple. That is why I posted the article.

It will be interesting to see the photography comparisons with the Pixel 4! But I already know it will be better in battery life and doing video.
But one thing is to capture video in 8K then take stills from there. That might be interesting.

I’m okay with the specs. I’d be willing to go for the Z Flip because what I want to do is go to a smaller more portable second phone. I’ve got a lovely Note10+ to use but it’s really challenging to take with me. I use it at home on WiFi mostly.

I have a 3 XL. Also a bit big. It’s too boring to go into but things have changed for me and I’d be okay with 2 6.1” ish phones. The S20 should be okay for my second carry. And I can trade the 3XL to get it to a comfortable price for my budget. I can’t use the 3XL to get the Flip even close.

So for me, it’s the price. Just the price. Everything else about the Z Flip is fine. Sigh.

I'll reserve final judgement for in person, but other than the screen, these phones seem lackluster in the sense that they're a laughable attempt at over kill, which then in turn tells me that Samsung isn't taking the nuances of making a great phone seriously.

I know they're beastly, but will it actually be seamless in day to day interactions like my iPhone... I'm fairly certain I know the answer and it isn't yes.

And the back of the phone is just too plain and that camera module the most hideous to date on the Ultra. Sigh... I fear Samsung has done little to inspire Apple.

Again though, I'll reserve final judgement until I review in person.

You know? You’re onto something. I was thinking about it the other day and I think what it’s ultimately Having me sit this out is that I don’t think they really added anything that would benefit me in every day life. Yeah even 10x zoom sounds awesome but then I tried to think of a recent situation where I actually had needed that amount of zoom and I couldn’t think of any instance where I needed it.

So it’s a cool phone but not a phone I need to have to help me function better on everyday life.

Umm.. I gotta mention, the Z Flip isn’t much of a small phone. According to the specs, it has a 6.7” display. Seems to me your better off with the 6.2” S20, but perhaps your looking at the folding aspect of it.

But if I was in the market for one those Samsung phones, It’s go big or go home.. S20 Ultra please!

It's funny that I see these comments from apple fans (not limping you in with them, just made me think of it) and it's the same people that were praising the newest iPhone models. Apple refined the camera and increased battery. Everyone claims genius.

Samsung increase battery, screen refresh, camera capability, and add 5g and people say they're overpriced or boring. Ugh, what?

I feel that... Which is why I stayed put on my Xs Max.

Battery isn't an issue on it, and I prefer the look, as well don't won't to lose 3D Touch just yet.

I do believe that Samsung offers the most complete Android experience overall. Does anyone know if Best Buy has these on display yet!?

The Z Flip has 8% more vertical area and 1.3% less area while watching 16:9 content in comparison to the 6.23” S20. Its 6.7” display is very misleading because of the aspect ratio. It’s a glorified TV remote!

I don't think anyone does yet. I would expect it early next week if I had to guess.

People keep saying megapixel count doesn't automatically mean good picture quality. But they never say the second part, which is, it also doesn't automatically mean bad picture quality. It's all about how those megapixels are used. The pixel binning tech looks promising. Then we got those samples, where cropping in its gonna be awesome. You need high megapixel count for that. So I'm definitely looking for more sample pics.

I've gone big on my last 3 Samsung purchases and my last Pixel purchase. I definitely will go big or stay big on a Note. The Note is where I go big or go home.

I did find I'm really happy on the iPhone 11Pro despite feeling cramped back when I had an iphone X, which is the same size as an 11Pro. As years change I find my needs and preferences vary. It's weird how much they can vary.

Right now I want my main phones that I carry to be smallish. The size of an iPhone 11 or smaller. I think the S20 is just a couple of millimeters taller. That's fine.

Yeah the Flip is thick. That's okay. That would fit in the purse pockets and pants pockets I am using currently. It is more the length and width of my Note that causes me difficulties with purses and pockets.

I used to use small backpacks with large pockets for my phones, which is how I had been accommodating 2 and even 3 large phones. I was using backpacks as purses because I needed two hands free. I was helping an elderly person get around, like at restaurants and places like that I had to help lift and that sort of thing. Backpacks were also handy when kids were smaller and needed Mom to carry everything for them. Anyway, things changed rather abruptly with the passing of my family member and the girls carry purses of their own now, so a few months ago I went back to smaller purses.

The Z Flip is marketed primarily to women and I think it's spot on to do that. I love the design of that phone. It really speaks to me. Matching it up with the aesthetic of a makeup compact was a good idea for a product aimed at women. It makes a new piece of tech feel instantly familiar and friendly. It's just too expensive.

And I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about that crease. I hadn't thought too much about it while my cold was at its worst. But my head's clearing up a bit and I'm starting to think about things I could not really concentrate on before.

I just remembered something. I used to have a purple Gameboy foldable that looked a lot like the purple Z flip. I used to wish it were a smartphone and said I wished someone would make a phone like this. I used to carry that thing with me everywhere like a kid even though I was in my 40's. I'm kind of a strange woman.

The issue is Samsung added battery but you’re not going to get much better battery life. They added it to keep battery life essentially the same.

The 120hz screen is garbage. It only works at HD. At full resolution you are back to 60hz.

The black. What about you? :)
If I were getting the S20+ I'd get black, too. I'm getting the S20 so the only options are grey, blue and pink. I'm torn between the pink and the blue, but leaning towards pink. I just don't know about the grey without seeing it in person. It could be very nice. I do know they all look different from the official renders. The blue often looks pearlescent white.

It's going in a black or grey Samsung armor case anyway. That's what my Note 10+ is currently in. A silvery grey one. I never really see the aura glow anymore.

I just read that the S20 will not have 5G mmWave, just low + mid band 5G. The S20+ and Ultra will have both. I have Verizon and live in a 5G city, but it is virtually non-existent. Apparently Verizon will have low / mid band 5G later this year so not sure how big a deal it is. I still plan on getting the regular S20 if anything at all. A big reason for jumping is I got my Pixel 4XL for $500 on Black Friday and Samsung is offering $600 for trade in. Licking my chops at the chance to trade in the phone for more than I paid, and get the S20 for $400. I’m still very much on the fence though :/ .
