I pre-ordered an hour after they went live. Ordered the Fingerprint Black Ultra. My cancel button disappeared this morning! Pre-orders should start to see shipping labels created this weekend and shipping probably Monday.

There are amazing photos taken with the ultra but people want to just focus on one negative review lol focus on the positive not the negatives you always gonna get people that don’t like something whether that’s a Rolls Royce Ferrari or a Rolex.

yeah...it is something to watch...This happened when the Pixel 4 was released as well. Everyone dumped on the phone...only to later pick one up. Now those same people rave about the Pixel 4.
I'll bet the same happens here with the S20 models....

I never really got the hate for the pixel 4. A lot of these youtubers are getting too cookie cutter or samey with their reviews. It’s seems as though they all want to be singing the same picture. So if the agenda is price they all complain about pricing or if it’s updates they all complain about that. Although I don’t know why they always exempt Apple from pricing complaints.

It’s early release software and whatever the end result is Samsung should be getting praise for changing the camera system. The same youtubers have spent years criticising them for using the same sensor since the S7 and saying that their cameras are not as good as the likes of Huwawei, google or Apple. Now that they’ve completely resigned the cameras they still find something else to complain about.

No phone is perfect. They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Totally agree with everything you wrote :)
My comments were more about the posters in this forum :)
People are so quick to dwell on something negative they saw or heard only to later praise the same device they were complaining about.

I'll comment on this once just because I feel like this is aimed at me since you've made previous posts about it towards me. If its not, my bad, but I think it still may answer why people reacted to the Pixel 4 XL like they did and then later owned one.

The negativity towards the Pixel from my end was due to expectations vs hardware vs price. Most android enthusiasts love the Pixel software and therefore want the device to be great. But year after year Google cut corners on hardware. They did so again this year. Does that mean the device is bad? Nope. It's actually very good in a vacuum. But since we're not in a vacuum cost needs to be considered. For ~$1k should we be ok with a phone that has too small of a battery, has extremely weak video recording, has limited camera lenses, and has subpar form factor when compared to competitors? When looking at the iPhone or Note, the hardware justifies the cost. That isnt the case with the Pixel.

The people that eventually bought the Pixel 4 down the line didnt do so because they just got over the flaws. They did so because the price discount became great enough that they were able to look past the flaws. And those discount became available because the phone did so poorly that Google had to drop the price...partly because reviews were bad and people saw that other devices in the $1k range offered more for their money.

My cancel button disappeared yesterday and a shipping label was created last night, but then cancelled. So looks like they are getting ready to ship but they jumped the gun. It said it was shipping out Monday for Tuesday delivery, which is probably still correct.

Some techs sites are starting to roll out their reviews. The takeaways so far are:

- Cameras are the new best in class. iPhone and Pixel still win in certain situations but overall the Ultra is king.
- Battery life is really good. Only one site harped on battery life being bad at 120Hz but nobody else agreed with them that I've seen.
- Everyone agrees cost is too high.

The overall sentiment seems to be that this is peak smartphone but that it should be for the price they are asking.

I actually went to my order to cancel and instead get the S20 plus as Im hearing good things about that camera as well. But my cancel button was gone. So...looks like I'm sticking with the Ultra.

May as well give the Ultra camera a run first, and you can decide later if you want to switch back to the S20+.

You send it back? Or not open it and sell it and get the S20+? might make a couple of buck in the process maybe.

I thought about it but then I have to deal with sending back everything in the preorder so that I can everything zeroed out and still place an order for the s20 plus in time to take advantage of the preorder deals. Its not that big of a deal, Im sure I'll enjoy the Ultra.

Anyone getting the 512GB version for the extra RAM or you’re good with the 12Gb on the 128?
I am getting the 128 GB S20 but had also created a preorder for the 512 GB Ultra while I was trying to decide between them. I chose the 512GB version only for the extra onboard storage. I didn't factor the extra RAM into it at all. I will upgrade again next year when they update the fingerprint sensor so I am not trying to "future proof" this particular purchase. In the present, I havent seen a particular need for more RAM in my Note10+.

I did see a few people harping on the battery life. But when I looked at what they were getting and how they had used the phone I realised they were being click-baity.

Battery life is always hard to judge because usage really varies between users. But thats going to be even more difficult in coming years while 5G rolls out. 5G is known to have a bigger battery drain so signal coverage and type of data signal being used will have a big effect.

Some of the known tech bloggers who are really heavy users report having no issue getting through a full day with the Ultra so I'm not worried. I havent heard anything regarding the S20 or plus models but I imagine they will be similar considering the screen to battery ratio they have.

I would normally be jealous but I'm going to be traveling for work next week, so I actually hope mine is delivered on Friday because that's when I come back home

The wife could sign for it. I am not sure they care as long as an adult signs for it.

No wife, thank goodness. I'd be in the dog house for ordering this.
My wife *seemed* to be OK when I explained that Samsung is giving me $600 for a phone I paid $500 for (Pixel 4 XL), so it really isn't $1200 for the S20+. Grasping at straws I know, LOL. Cell phones are a hobby of mine, she knows that and has accepted it...so far.

My wife is used to my phone habits. Shes not bothered. I usually treat her to the new iphone each year but shes not even that fussed about that. I'm usually more excited at getting her a new phone than she is!
