I think Flossy is more of an android guy.

Yeah, I love Flossy, mostly for the entertainment value but he definitely is primarily an Android guy. He’s admittedly a huge Samsung fan and has professed his preference for them for years now.

One thing I forgot to mention when I checked out the phones is the screen. Aside from them being much more flat, the colors were great to my eye. I set the phones to the "natural" color setting and they all looked the same as each other, and almost identical to my 11 Pro Max with TT disabled. Truly perfect. Nice neutral white and perfectly uniform screens. Whenever I've lined up three OLED iPhones together, each screen looked different. SMH at Apple.

In my experience Samsung turned a corner with the S9. My S8 had pink edges and I remember seeing variation in stores.

I hope Samsung doesn't let me down. The longest I've kept a Samsung phone is around 3-4 months. Things just seem different to me so far with the S20 series. It could also be I was very underwhelmed by Android 10 on the Pixel vs. Android Pie, and am slowly not caring as much about being 1st in line for Android updates or the top camera capability, or that "stock Android experience". Time will tell.

Yeah I had a blotchy pink S8+ It also lagged like crazy for no apparent reason. My best friend has an S8+ even now and it works great for her. My husband and I got preorder laggy messes. She got hers late in the year when they worked out a lot of kinks with the displays.

I have some pink blotch on my Pixel 2. I love that phone but the display is a little challenging to work with at times.

I wish I could see the phones in person one more time before I flick the kill switch on one of my preorders.

I’m inclined to keep Pinky. I wish the native storage were larger and that’s something I’ll look for on my next Samsung if I don’t get the 512 GB Ultra. I know there’s an SD card but still, for $1000 the storage should be at least 256 GB. Especially if that is the only option for that model.

At any rate the decision may be taken out of my hands if my order status suddenly changes without warning. lol, I am hardly going to be upset about that. I have pretty solid reasons for choosing either. It’s all good.

And it’s not like I won’t get to play with the Ultra.

As of right now you can still cancel orders, although the free $185 in Samsung store credit has gone down to $150 for the S20+.

Yeah it looks like my first order can be canceled. My second one for the Ultra can’t be processed until I complete the one for the S20 or cancel it.

They’re on to me!

My $5 case for the S20 arrived. My 11 Pro fits inside! That’s how narrow it is. But it’s as tall as an iPhone XR/11. That’s a very tall thin aspect ratio for watching videos.

My husband looked at it and didn’t think I should trade a Note for that size. Since I use my Note as an entertainment center. I would be cutting down to two small phones.

in my Ultra order I’ve got one rugged case and the blue earbuds I wanted. And a dongle. Lol!

I don’t know what I’ll do. My brain is like a ping pong ball between two choices. Well it’s not the first time this has happened.

As for colors, oddly I don’t care all that much. I like the pink a lot but the Black is nice, too.

I don’t know quite how to link to Twitter but Ice Universe who can be found at UniverseIce is saying the S20/20+ Sony sensor is better for faster low light focusing. Which is kind of what I need. They were talking about the autofocus being wonky on the Ultra but in the discussion someone said that’s already been patched.

From Daniel Bader’s Twitter, something we need to keep an eye on. See if the patch addresses the issues he mentions.

From all the videos I’ve seen so far the Ultra does a nice job. But nobody’s really got their in-depth reviews out yet. Just the hands on.

From Daniel Bader (Androidcentral):

Here's my take on the Galaxy S20 cameras that I'll be putting on the website at some point:

- The S20 Ultra's autofocus is straight-up broken in the current firmware. But it's also 100% fixable with a patch.
- At 4x-10x, the Ultra's zoom is really good if there's enough light.

- The S20 Ultra's 108MP sensor is useful only in very specific situations but you don't get much additional detail at full-res.
- The main S20/S20+ sensor is great in almost all situations. Give this to me on every phone.
- Samsung still softens facial detail to a stupid degree
This is my sticking point, actually. Sure, give me a dozen cameras and plenty of versatility but if my daughter's face is a painting because I'm sitting indoors and she's not completely still, go back to the drawing board.
Google and Apple Figured this out already.

I'd really hoped that bigger sensors + Snapdragon 865 + improved computation would have fixed this by now, but nope.

Tldr these are really good cameras that are hugely improved over last year's phones, with one glaring flaw that affects people who take a lot of photos of people, mainly kids, indoors.

Also Single Take is almost good but all the videos have dumb songs attached to them.

I'm still on the fence about buying the S20+ or the Ultra, but i think now i am leaning more towards the S20+ (Much cheaper, less weight, same specs, Cloud Blue color 😍)

This fits also to the last post from Ice universe:
On the camera side, maybe the S20 / S20 + is a better choice than the S20 Ultra. The IMX555 performs better than the 12MP HM1, 64MP and 108MP HM1 are consistent, and the low-light 8K video is better. Most importantly, the S20/20+ focus is far better On S20U

Oh, so no samsung for me, like 99% of my photos are kids, no go...
This is a bit disappointing for me. As much as I would like the zoom and 8K video recording, most of my pictures are of my kids. I have 26,926 pictures on my phone and 21,520 of those are of my kids. I will be keeping an eye on more reviews.

It’s only one review. We have to wait for the rest. Most of the stuff I’ve seen on YouTube was only selfies. I rarely use the selfie camera but the skin tones and textures were fine. Need to see what the rear camera is like for taking pictures of people.

On my 2nd go around with the Note 10, burst mode has been a savior and I haven't had blurry pics.

Also, this single shot mode looks for real.

I wouldn’t be freaking out about one camera review. The hardware needed to make this a great camera is there. Software patches can and will roll out that will improve it over time. I’m not worried.

Thanks so much! Yeah I think I’ll enjoy having those extra megapixels. I did notice at Best Buy that focusing was a little fussy on ALL the models, compared to an iPhone, but not too bad if you tap to focus on your subject. It’s like the delay was it trying to figure out what your subject is. It didn’t seem to be a hardware problem. The patch hopefully already fixed this.

I got incredible detail and bokeh even on the S20 on a photo of my hand. No portrait mode was set. I found that impressive.

Update: Pinky is in process! 😬🥳

Needless to say, (but I’ll say it anyway) I canceled the Ultra preorder.

Oddly the only thing that made me sad about that was the earbuds are cancelled, too. Oh well, when I get my Samsung points assigned to my purchase I’ll combine them with my $25 bonus credit to get the earbuds.

🤔Maybe. I can never remember to keep all my Bluetooth stuff charged unless I’m on vacation. I’m always on wires at home. I do miss the headphone jack a little.
