I personally am pretty underwhelmed by the samples I have seen so far. In a vacuum they are very impressive for a phone.

However when compared to the note 10+ I am not seeing a quantum leap on anything but zoom, which is my least used feature in photography. Even with my mirrorless setup I like to zoom with my feet.

They haven't made much progress in the areas I really don't care for on my note 10, like the washed out video.

There is no denying that Samsung is in the top 3 for top notch cameras this year, but I was really hoping that this would mark a crowning achievement, and instead it is just a modest bump despite the insane hardware.

Running a pixel 4 temporarily, and I am again just blown away by the photos it is capable of. I can only imagine what Google could accomplish with these specs.

Final verdict after being on the fence, is that I am sitting this one out.
@Chrisblond007 THIS is how you post a critical analysis among adults. I can appreciate the points being made, because they’re framed as a discussion of why the phone falls short, most particularly as a camera, and not how I as a consumer fall short for wanting to order it in the first place.

Do you see the difference? You’re smart enough to spot the flaws and gather the data. Are you smart enough to drop the appalling demeanor of a bored teenager and join adult discussion? You’d be more than welcome to. We’ve all argued amongst ourselves here all the time. It’s not as if we’d hold a grudge if you ever decide to change. There are valid ways to compare and contrast the S20‘s to other phones. This is one example.

Your posts had points I would have given a thumbs up to, because I found some of them valuable. I’m not here to exist in an echo chamber and I appreciate critical observations. Your ridiculous obvious need to be right rather than helpful stopped me.

Now back to @Mellofello808 clearly I appreciate your points. I’m trying to decide whether I am willing to give up the nuanced details that indeed are lost on some of the closeup photos in order to gain some features in video like the incredible zoom. I’m taking a trip to NYC in the winter and that video demonstrating the power of the Ultra’s zoom was pretty compelling.

I’m getting an S20 as my second phone regardles, I’m just trying to decide if I want to go with the preorder that gives me the little S20’s phone I’ve always admired and would prefer to carry or the preorder of yet another beast, the S20 Ultra. Lol I’d have to go back to my Vera Bradley backpacks! No more small purses. I do have personally compelling reasons to go with either choice.

I’m glad I preordered the Ultra at the last minute. But my ability to cancel my S20 should be expiring soon, so I’d better hurry and examine the reviews fast and make up my mind quickly.

So this brings up a good point. I'm a Packers season ticket holder, and while my seats are good, I'll be able to really zoom in and take some incredible pics. Same with when I go to a Dance Gavin Dance concert in a couple months.
Rumored that Greenbay had interest in drafting that Utah State QB. Rodgers is the same age as Favre was when GB drafted Rodgers. If GB manages, years in the future, name a successful third QB transition.... Would there be any note impressive historic trend short of the New England dynasty?

Also, everyone, don't feed the trolls here. The phones look great. Yet the price is high, maybe too high, but the same can be said for iPhones. Actually, the same is said for the pixel 4 (until the recent price deceased - great phone), but my guess is that those who purchase the iPhones and Galaxies won't be unhappy with the purchase. I can list several flaws with the current iPhone offering, which is outstanding and the best it has been. So don't feed the trolls.... by definition you are bringing them Joy.

For context, I spent the last there years completly in the Apple ecosystem, starting with the iPhone X and ending with the recent selling of my 11 pro Max and apple watch 4 (prior to that I changed phones constantly, many here). But then I had a job change that dramatically changed my outlook on ecosystems and the necessity of interconnected device (frankly, as a result of what I do, I've pulled away in the name of necessary privacy and security). Don't get be wrong, I still consider the current iPad pro lineup to be unrivaled and one of my favorite pieces of technology, but oddly I find it better compliments my workflow alongside my note 10+ than ever before.

Anyway, I got my note 10+ for significantly less than it's trade in value. I had originally planned to trade it in for what is now the s20 ultra, although the note 10+ almost swayed me from that. Nonetheless, I am indeed trading it in for the s20 ultra (grey).

^didn't proofread, sorry for any typos.

It’s range is pretty impressive, but you’re not taking photos at that distance.

Stalker/surveillance cam mode, in all it’s glory...

Oh & what are Samsung going to do with the Note20? They’ve packed the S20 line with so much already....& what about the cost of that Note20...😬

I’ve gone to a backpack lately. Too much stuff to carry around with me and most of it is tech lol I have my phone, iPad mini, kindle paperwhite, AirPods, a portable charger for emergencies a spare lightning cable and watch charger. Sometimes one of kids kindle fire tablets ends up in there along with anything else of the kid’s that finds its way in there.

which S20 did you order then?
Haven’t decided yet and I’m trying to hold out for the note 20. However if I cave it will be the ultra. I think everyone here knows about my love for big phones. Screen size aside it’s the only one with real improvements in optical zoom and the only one that allows you to record 8K video from the main camera lens.

Ah, I forgot that it records the 8k from the main lens and not the zoom! Good point! I don’t know how much 8k recording I’d do, though. I do think I’m switching now from 1080p to 4K more often.

Video stability between S20 and Note 10
Video quality is better and has fuller color depth on the S20 imo

Maybe this is why Samsung left 120hz at fHD and not 1440p....

Odd considering I see all other outlets praising battery life with 120Hz on. I’m sure it’s much less than with 60Hz but I’m guessing it will be plenty for a full days use.

I’m sure it’s fine to last all day but like anything depends on your tasks. No point having the feature to have it switched off

I haven't followed too closely but is there even a way to force 120hz at 1440p at launch? Or is it one or the other type of thing?
For now if you use 120Hz you are restricted to 1080p. However there are rumours that Samsung will allow 120Hz at 1440p in a future software update.

Finally got hands on time at a Best Buy with all three S20s. They were not on lock down so I got to hold them all and actually use them. The first thing I noticed is that the screens are much flatter than before, I’d call the curve subtle now. I didn’t see any discoloration / shift on the edges like I have with every other Galaxy since S7E.

I played with the S20+ for 15 mins since I preordered it and it was actually connected to internet and fully functional at the store. Switching on 120hz is so great. I enabled gestures for navigation which worked great. It feels very similar to iOS. Played some bass heavy music on YouTube, it sounded great but hard to truly gauge due to store noise.

The regular S20 felt really nice but I’m used to my 11 Pro Max and the S20+ is nearly identical in size but much, much lighter than the iPhone. I felt some serious heft with the S20 Ultra, though, it was noticeably heavier. I am not a camera or video guy so I did not test them. I don’t doubt they will be fantastic for my needs. Everything felt silky smooth on all three phones and there isn’t a C student among them. Can’t wait to receive the phone.

The Ultra got a preliminary quad major go from Floss, haha.

I haven’t watched flossy’s unboxing yet but I heard he made a joke about upgrading from the iPhone to a real phone.

360 degree VR videos 4 or 8k are lot better on Samsung phones. If you have iphone you won't move your cam.

Iphone owners can you move your cam on 360 vr videos. These views are breath taking...

I wish there were more camera samples and battery results on the S20. I can't find anything. :( Pinky or The Giant Stalkery Void?

I'm trying to give myself a crash course on how the different cameras all work. I'm on my Note. I'm loving it's huge display but the battery is draining fast because I've got the brightness turned up so I can see pictures and videos better.

He occasionally makes that joke toward the beginning of his videos where he throws the link up in the description. You can order the phone on Samsung.com, "where you go to buy a real phone."

In this case he slammed the iPhone again and said it with the phones side by side. It was well-placed, gave me a LOL. I linked the video it should start up right where he says it. At 7 minutes in.

He does it more for clicks. He always has an iPhone in his pocket and can’t do without it....same with his Apple watch

Oh I know. He has several iPhones from what I've seen. He's still my favorite YouTuber, I watch his videos for devices I have no intention of getting.
