So basically it's the apps that are not as good. I find the watchfaces are awesome on the galaxy watch, there are heaps to choose from.

There’s certainly more choice for watch faces but I could find non that would work to show text information or general apps on the watch face.

Connection wise you can just put the air pods in on the apple watch and music would work with no issues but the buds I had all kinds of connection issues and for me the whole point of a smart watch is stuff like that should just work you shouldn’t need to keep connecting via your phone as it should just work when you put in your headphones. Spotify app I thought on the galaxy watch wasn’t great either and wouldn’t just play your playlist like you can on the apple watch. Some really massive drawbacks for me.

There is an app launcher widget you can set just to the right of your watch face too. Declutters your watch face with a quick swipe to access your favorite apps.

Yeah I did use that but felt what was needed was so limited. ESPN app was good but there were no general sports apps where it detailed all apps....

And as much of a gimmick as I thought walkie talkie was I use this everyday it’s so useful

I’m basing my experience off the galaxy watch. Apps for me were not good and music connection for the gym I thought was bad compared to the apple watch. There’s no watch faces for text messages/ activity stats or no good sport score apps on galaxy watch…that to me puts it in a league of it’s own compared to the galaxy watch. From my knowledge this hasn’t changed?
The complications are not as robust on the galaxy watch. In my experience the complications were dependent on them being supported by a particular watch face. On the Apple Watch the number of complications is dependent upon the watch face you are using but you are free to use any of the supported complications. So if the watch face supports 4 complications they can be any 4 i choose. On the galaxy watch the complications are stipulated by the watch face, you can‘t choose. Also the range of complications are limited compared to what you can have on the Apple watch.

Another thing I noticed was that there was no native support for audiobooks on the galaxy watch. All of the flashlight apps I tried on the galaxy watch were dim compared to the Apple Watch flashlight. Bixby on the galaxy watch just isn’t very responsive, surprisingly Siri on the Apple Watch just works better. Also it was quite infuriating that for simple things like setting a timer via voice on the galaxy watch it told me I needed to downloaded a timer app the first time I tried. On the Apple Watch you don’t need to download anything to do anything as simple as setting a timer. Also because bixby wasn’t very good, I couldn’t use voice dictation to reply to messages. I also like using siri on my watch to set reminders and ask simple questions. I just wasn’t able to do that because BIxby was so terrible on the watch.

It depends on whether you are interested in things like this but the Apple watch also has the ability to take an ECG, fall detection and arrhythmic heart detection. I know the galaxy watch active 2 was said to be getting these features when it launched but they haven’t materialised anywhere yet.

The range also isn’t as good. It disconnected from my phone when I was in various places in my house. My Apple watch stays connected all over my house. However the galaxy watch might have been using an older version of Bluetooth. The galaxy watch active 2 will have the same version of Bluetooth as the latest Apple Watch and therefore have better connectivity.

The first time you use Samsung pay after putting the watch on you need to put in a pin. After that you are good to go and it’s just as easy to use as Apple Pay on the Apple Watch.

My apple watch can act as remote for my Apple TV. I would have liked the galaxy watch to work as a remote for the chromecast.

Things I did prefer about the galaxy watch over the Apple Watch:

Better AOD
It alerts you when you go out of range of your phone. Which would help prevent loss and theft.
The rotating bezel is better for navigation
The bezel is raised so it protects the screen better
The rose gold Galaxy watch looks better
Much wider range of watch faces

I only had my galaxy watch for 8 days but this is what I noticed in that time. I never connected my galaxy buds to the watch so I can’t say if there were any connection issues. However I think I’ve only ever connected by AirPods to my Apple Watch once. It worked without issue but i’ve only done it once.

This is therapeutic. Seeing how the both of you use your Apple Watch tells me that I'm not as dependent on the Apple Watch as I once thought.

I didn’t get round to setting this up but this is something I would find useful. It seems a better solution than navigating through the honeycomb on the Apple Watch. I like to use the dock for my most recently used apps rather than favourites.

It’s because I’ve had one since launch day in 2015. That’s why I’ve become dependent on it. Sad really Lol

Yes Samsung pay that’s another thing...my bank do not support this so for me that’s another massive issue as I use Apple Pay a lot

I’m very dependent on it, I get so many notifications so for me it saves me a lot of time and for gym workouts it’s huge.

Everybody is different but when you give up the iPhone it’s far more than the phone that you give up...

There’s no point if your bank doesn’t support Samsung Pay. I know you can use the phone with android pay but it’s not the same. Using your phone makes you feel ‘like an animal’ as Rene Ritchie would say.

On another note the banks don’t see that bothered about supporting Google and Pay and Samsung pay over here. They all got on board with Apple pay, I think apart from Barclay’s who dragged their heels but eventually they supported it. However the banks have been less supportive to google pay and then even less supportive for Samsung Pay.

Barclay’s have refused to support google pay or samsung pay, preferring to launch their own mobile payments app. The only one they support is Apple Pay.

Yeah I just don’t get why there is an issue with google pay/Samsung pay. Not like these are some companies who a small amount of people buy their products and use. I mean when you walk into natwest you see massive apple pay stickers everywhere. Never seen Samsung pay anywhere in town or even in post offices. Just is odd.

I originally thought apple had some deal with natwest or something but seems the other banks is similar.

I am a terrible navigator and a nervous driver ever since the traffic congestion I used to only encounter commuting in the metropolitan areas now applies to a simple school run or shopping trip. (Where did all these people come from?? Lol).

I have found that the Apple Watch tapping my wrist to alert me to make a lane change is incredibly helpful for getting me around this circle of hell.

I’ve seen the stickers for google pay in some of the shops but a lot of the shops have now started advertising that they have no limit for Apple Pay. Ive never seen anything like that for Google pay. In Sainsbury’s there is no limit for Apple pay but google pay is still capped at £30.

One thing the AW lacks is offline Spotify. My S3 Frontier works flawless with that when I take my jogs. HERE Maps on the watch is just as good as Apple and Google, IMO. I only use maps on a watch for quick location checks though.

I ordered the Active 2 with my S20 Ultra. Looking forward to it. Definitely got a case for it already, cause the display is much more exposed. Only thing I will miss about the AW is Enpass.

I dont care about speed comparison, just noticed how samsung screen flickered and iphone did not (which is samsung screen as well:))
This is just a common misconception for 2 reasons

1) the guys camera set up

2) Iphone UI is dampened a bit like a self closing draw but obviously more refined than that, so it appears smooth, where Android is raw power and will scroll as fast as you can

People often think its lag or even flickering in error but its speed over controlled flow
[automerge]1582557068[/automerge]
No it's just the lens having a large apeture and a natural shallow depth of field. No software required.
I understand the much larger sensor also gives a shallow depth of field :)

What? I did not say anything baout scrolling, when there is light (even static) screen, you see s20 flicker and iphone without flicker.. thats all...

The flicker actually has to do with how the refresh rate interacts with the shutter speed on the camera. It's not something you would see, just like you don't see it in your light bulbs at home.
I do get it, but you could be sensible to flicker even to seeable (pwm flicker pain)... what i am wuestioning is whether there is less flicker on iphone (as it was not there in that video) or is it just samsung had different frequency of flicker than iphone and just by chance setting of camera vs flicker freq of both devices lead to the situation that one flicker can be seen on video and another one can not be seen?

My bad if I misunderstood your point :)

However I see what you mean at around 3;27 when he looks at Quora his camera equipment is picking up flickering interference on the S20

I tried this on my Fold and my OLED laptop it is noticeable on both

But I also noticed at 3:57 in call of duty you can see similar interference on the clouds on the Iphone and at 5:30 on the Iphone red home screen swirl and twitter home page really bad on Iphone and so on

So same same its his equipment not the phones

I see the Chinese S20 Ultras retail for £100 less than over here and come with 256gb instead of 128gb. I can see me picking one up in a few months. Unless by then there's been some leaks on worthy upgrades to the Note.

Ugh. Maybe we should be pickier in the west and stop buying these phones at these prices with the 128GB storage.

Lol, y’all first! 🤣

My Note 10+ is a Chinese version. Saved loads and got the SD where I can use the Google camera and better battery.

If the SD is better or at least on par with the Exynos, I'll get one new on eBay with an even bigger saving.
