Have to admit - the "doze" part of Android which delays notifications is what absolutely bugs the hell out of me. Samsung make amazing phones - but it's the one thing that keeps me switching back to iPhone for main use.
Strange because besides gmail, I never find any delay in notifications.

It was one of the reasons I switched back to iOS. My Galaxy S8 was receiving (vital) notifications hours after my iPad received them. I could not find a solution for this problem (turning off Adaptive Battery did nothing nor did the other suggested methods for this issue). The same problem persisted when I had a Pixel 3 XL (I returned it after the two week trial). It boggles my mind that Google thinks this is acceptable.

I also found after 50 notifications for one app it stops coming through all together. I may still have the S10 plus now if this wasn’t the case oh well

One of the worst things was unlocking the phone and being surprised by a ton of notifications coming in all at once. That’s unacceptable. None of my iPhones have had notification delays.

I wish I could talk to Sundar Pichai personally and ask him why this BS is acceptable (and why some other Android BS is as well). I want to one day own an Android device again, but Google makes it difficult to do so.

Is it any apps in particular that you find this happening?

Happens on numerous apps for me (even though i've disabled all of the sleep options for these apps).
For instance, Twitter - i have instant notifications for certain sports journalists, very useful on game days. Side by side - iPhone and Galaxy S10+, iPhone twitter notifications arrive straight away..... however, unless the Galaxy is unlocked with screen on, the notifications don't arrive until a few minutes later, or until i wake the screen and am met with a bunch of notifications.

Sky News (breaking news) another example.

Eh I don’t think he was that harsh on it. Echos what others have said. Best zoom quality of any smartphone. Regular and low light struggle a little. Regular is mostly due to the new sensor and narrow field of view not being tuned yet with software. It’ll get better.

I’m just not sure I’ll keep the Ultra because if the cameras aren’t clearly better than iPhone and Pixel then I’m fine with the S20 plus being still pretty good.
Sounds like autofocus is a complete mess.

Right now, yes. The depth of field is more narrow with the new sensors and that’s why it’s struggling. But this is something totally fixable and I expect the next update to resolve a lot of it. But people also need to realize that with this better hardware and higher quality sensors/lenses comes new difficulties from a software side. There’s a trade off it’s not just an automatic increase in quality all around. It’ll take some time to get things tuned.

Right. The zoom sounds absolutely amazing.

Same here....not on my P4XL or Note 10+

Same. No issues here. I had it initially on the Note 10+ (never on the pixel 4 xl), but then I disabled power optimization. If I have the naming right, that is the specific setting that is unique to Samsung phones and separate from sleep optimization or whatever it is called that is native to android.

I guess I have had good luck with Samsung shipping in the past, never had an issue, but they are making up for it with the Ultra shipping for me. First got a Fedex shipping label last week which was cancelled, and now a second label created, but they haven't picked up the phone yet, Fedex shows delivery today. They did deliver my buds on Monday though.

There is a guy on Android Central posting a bunch of pictures of dogs moving, etc and they are awful, he is also talking about there is bad shutter lag. Not sure if he has received the initial software update or not.

Will see for myself if my Ultra ever comes, but it is definitely concerning to me as I take a ton of pet and kids pictures.

That would be a deal breaker for me.

For Twitter notifications (and others)—not only would I receive them late in comparison to my iPad, but some of the notifications wouldn’t even come in. I’d have notifications from the *same* apps on my iPad, but they wouldn’t be on my Android device. I was astonished and frustrated.

My husband has wrestled with delayed notifications but I haven’t lately. I don’t know the details on his setup vs mine. I’m getting audio tones whenever my emails come in, so I’m happy about that.

My phone is in Memphis, Tennessee. Speaking of Tennessee, I’m sad and horrified to hear that 21 (in the report I saw) people lost their lives to a tornado in Nashville. Outside of tornado alley I don’t remember hearing much about such killer storms when I was a kid. I guess the climate is changing because we get tornadoes almost once a year where I live vs pretty much never 30 years ago.

Yep! With the Ultra might come a little patience. Not saying it's right, but if people are willing, this camera could be top notch in a couple months.

Anyone here get the Ultra delivered yet? If so I’d be interested in what they think of the photos so far. Also I haven’t seen anyone try burst mode on moving objects to see how the quality there is and if it’s a viable alternative if the camera struggles with moving objects.

Can't speak for the Ultra, but I use Burst mode on my Note 10+ and I would say I get a quality pic 8 out of 10 times.

Good to hear. Honestly that will be the only thing that I can think of that will make me return the phone. Most of the picture I take are of kids. If I can’t get those to come out clean then it’s a no go. Otherwise, I can’t see any faults in this phone that I’m worrying about.

Hasn’t pictures with faces always been an issue with Samsung phones? I would give it time see if Samsung fixes the issues via update. Fingers crossed they will

We're in the same boat. Really the only camera that has ever been consistent with my kids is the Pixel, but the S20 Ultra is better in so many other ways that I'm going to be patient...unless the camera performance is catastrophic. Then I'll go back to the Pixel.

Face smoothing I’m not as worried about. It’s a minor annoyance to me. I’m talking about motion blur. I’ve found only the Pixel really takes consistently great pictures of moving objects. iPhone still struggles with this. Something to do with how the Pixel software anticipates shots. Basically it takes pictures before you actually press the button. I don’t know all the technical details but it sounds like they almost shoot burst shots behind the scenes and then use that to pick the best picture around when you press the shutter button.
