We've seen fantastic photos on youtube and from other sources so either you have a bad phone or you are using it wrong.

Am I supposed to be doing something different with this one? Go to the camera and take a picture. My iPhone had no problems doing that.

How are the speakers?
Sorry just saw this. Ugh, I would say good, not great. In my limited testing they can get really loud but I would say the sound is a little more tinny than on the iPhone. But good enough.

When playing music and media the iPhone 11 Pro Max sounds just a bit more full and rich to me. The S20 can get very loud, even at max volume I didn't hear any clipping or other issue. I think enabling Atmos makes the sound worse when playing music. Haven't tried it for Netflix or video. Fired up some Mario Kart and the sound is fantastic though with Atmos enabled.

I posted earlier, if you use the phone as a phone, it is A+. The earpiece speaker is so loud and full and crystal clear. Much better than my iPhone and Pixel. Speaker phone calls also sound very good to me so far.

I have the s20 ultra, I have been trying out the camera and I have no confidence taking it with me and my only device. I really dislike the camera. I am going to return it and try the s20 plus.

top is s20ultra, bottom is 11pro max.

I just don't understand

Pretty obvious to me. In the Ultra picture the autofocus was hunting when you took the shot...hence the blur. Try the same shot and manually focus and you'll get a much better shot.

The ultra is costing Samsung $580 to produce, if the Corona virus & camera issues are not fixed soon i think Samsung will be in a big mess and will be forced to cease production sooner. So will be interesting next few weeks or months.

Did you try taking the shot again on the S20 Ultra?

My iPhone doesn’t always get a good shot the first time. I always take a few shots and pick the best one.

Oh btw, 8K video is absolutely a gimmick right now. Its put in there to say it's possible and thats about it. It looks ridiculously bad. There's no stabilization and rolling shutter is really bad. It looks so much worse than 4k@60FPS.

Yeah rolling shutter was very obvious in review samples and at home. I definitely would not pan with this camera in 8k

It's pretty clear to me that 8k and 100x zoom were things Samsung put in to catch people's attention and marvel at the engineering feat. And it really is incredible engineering and I love that Samsung is constantly pushing tech. But it's pretty clear these things were in no way ready for consumers. I wish they would have spent more time perfecting the main camera.

I think, at least on my S20, they did improve it. My photos show some improvements over that from my Note 10+. But it can be close. The Note 10+ took the most light filled photo of my living room lit by only the chandelier of the adjacent dining room. My Pixel 3XL, iPhone 11 Pro and S20 also did a nice job on the photo but all were darker. The Note 10+ took in more light and still retained details and didn’t overexposed the room.

It’s sort of like 2 steps forward, then one step back on something else instead of pushing the whole thing forward as iphone did with the 11 series. I wonder if they made a mistake getting rid of variable aperture.

Few complaints in Australian forum

If you are talking about wingepool, (whirlpool) i wouldn't worry.

Australia has stopped flights from Sth Korea. All over for Samsung for awhile. Who wants to pay $2KAUD plus for a phone that can't take a descent photo anyway, lol.

The few times I've stumbled into Australian forums all the talk has been a bunch of dudes / bodybuilders calling out people for being "jelly." No idea how I ended up there ?.

I am so far not impressed with the S20+ battery life. Off charger at 9 AM today, screen time 58 minutes, and I'm down to 83% at 3:15 PM. I set up the phone Monday night so it's been a couple days. Not that the Pixel 4 XL is any better, but it makes me appreciate the 11 Pro Max even more.
