I mentioned it the other day, but the camera on the Ultra gives me the feeling that it will be capable of some incredible shots that no other phone right now can make. But it will not get consistently great point and shoot photos like the Pixel or iPhone.
Yeah and I have gotten some stunning shots too.

I'd kind of like this $1,400 camera to do that for me.
Cameras get WAY more expensive than $1400....hell a lens is easily more than that.

The phone is $1400, and the camera within it cost Samsung ~ $110 out or ~$550 to make. Assuming the 3x markup as we see on the phone, the camera is ~= a $330 camera. I think people need to realize this.

Smartphone pictures, combined with computational photography, render pictures that are typically unnatural for a real camera. You just don't get photos where everything is in focus with a later of hdr applied. Hell...your eyes don't work that way either, though you brain helps you there.

The ultra camera needs some updates, but it functions ways more like a traditional camera. It seems that that is now considered weird on the age of Instagram and ML based photography.

The detail on the 108 megapixel is fantastic but weird how his fur is blurred before his face. I know most people wouldn't notice this but just weird that it does this.

Whoa! For a moment there I thought you had reposted my cat! But my kitty has blacker patches. On the S20 the fur isn't exactly blurry but it's softened sometimes compared to what my 11 Pro does with it. It's almost like a Kitty beauty mode. IPhone used to do this kind of flattening of light reflecting off of surfaces and it caused subtle details to be lost. Pixel was the first phone whose camera let light kind of play off of surfaces. The results are beautiful. But this last iteration of iPhone camera software now let's more light reflections stay in the finished photo.

Agreed, and considering how hefty the iPhone 11 Pro Max already is, Apple have little wiggle room here, I think as you say, 6.7inch is about as far as they can go, to grow the screen any larger they’ll have to focus on reducing the notch and side bezels/borders to almost nothing.
They should keep going and going. I don’t think I’ll meet a phone that’s too big for me 🤣🤣🤣

Same here.....by the time I do all the adjustments of my kids or dogs or whatever the subjects is...i probably missed my perfect shot....
Burst mode has been working really well for those shots for me. It's a pain to sort through the burst shots and delete the ones you don't need but it works well.

What is tough is that this phone pretty much beats the iPhone in every area (other than OS preference) but the camera is such a weak spot that it's really a matter of if you can deal with it and wait for updates.

Still a lovely picture though. I like the colours. They are so vibrant.

Took some early morning pics from my apt terrace. The sun was partly covered by moving clouds. The last shot was the worst. He was in motion at an angle from my shot and walking pretty fast.

I'm pretty surprised at the results.

The zoom lens is so tempting. I’m trying to hold out until the note 20. And at least then I will have a good idea about what Apple has up it’s sleeve. I’ve put up without split screen apps, pencil support and a Dex like feature for years but if they don’t improve the optical zoom then I’ll have to consider the note 20, despite the ecosystem.

Well folks, it's been a good 2 day run with the Ultra. I actually planned on keeping it longer but I won a free iPhone 11 Pro from a YouTube giveaway. No joke. So if I'm getting an iphone for free I might as well just stick to that.

Good luck to everyone with this phone. It's a great device. Needs some camera help and I hope software fixes it.

Blurring is very common with telephoto lenses. You really have to measure distance, place, size and other stuff of the target.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 108mp main lens a regular wide angle and not telephoto?

The benefit of good smartphone cameras is that they're always with you to quickly take good pics. If people were so serious they were doing all these calculations, they'd use a proper dslr/mirrorless camera.

It's not unreasonable to expect a good, in focus shot 9 times out of 10 with how much smartphones now cost.

64mp main sensors, better zoom, bigger battery and 120hz all likely to happen on next iPhone. So yeah worth waiting

The camera really is awesome for stills and slow moving objects.
These are the wild Mustangs hanging out by a creek bed cooling off. They are about 100 yards away. I could not have gotten these shouts with my Pixel 4XL or 11 Pro Max but the S20ULTRA did great

The 108 is the primary camera but it also has a telephoto camera with 48 mp folded and cropped lenses.

The benefit of good smartphone cameras is that they're always with you to quickly take good pics. If people were so serious they were doing all these calculations

Well...there is no mention on the specs or Samsung website of auto focus/calibration or optical image stabilisation so you are on your own if you try to take a distance shots

So if you have shaky hands the image will be blurred.

I would closely inspect camera settings on the ultra.

Damn, the camera in the Ultra is awesome. Now the rumour is, the Fold 2 is not getting this camera, so I'm most likely getting the Note20. Hopefully the Note20 is the same size as the Ultra.
