Probably dumb thing to say and OT, but i bet you guys are happy your phones are made in SK and not China about now. If i was starting fresh i would be giving apple a wide birth, especially with the $AU to US tanking and Apple never dropping prices only raising, new iPad 11" gone up $100 in middle of world crisis lol.
At least with Samsung you can wait a bit like above and get cheaper. Screw China.
Most Samsung phones are made in Vietnam. Apparently less than 10% manufactured in Korea.

Unlocked still only gets them when your carrier approves it, so I am waiting also on At&t for me, but using an unlocked model as well.
I meant unlocked and bought from Samsung store not a carrier... Maybe when i first put the sim in the phone it registers as a unlocked but not in the carrier imei's own devices... Just a guess...

Just seen someone on Reddit from France who got the update... Change log was about better performance for the camera...

I am also talking about unlocked from Samsung and not a carrier. Your carrier still affects your update, even though the phone is unlocked from Samsung unfortunately.

Probably should ask this over on the Android Central forum, but has anyone experienced any GPU throttling during gaming? I just downloaded RBI Baseball 20 on my 11 Pro Max and after 5 minutes or so it became lag city. I have Play Store credits and am downloading the game now on my S20+. This is where ROG Phone and OnePlus phones shine, their performance doesn't really throttle due to good heat dissipation.

*Edit- played 5 innings and silky smooth the whole time on the S20+. If the performance stays this way on the S20+ I may have to use it as my daily despite any authentication issues I have. I'm a baseball nut and it's great to have pocket baseball at my fingertips.

After a couple weeks of use I'm pretty sure the s20 plus is the best device I've ever used. Display and build are excellent. Battery easily gets me through the day. 120hz is something I cant go back from. I used my Pro Max for a couple minutes and it felt so stuttery.

The only complaints I have are the camera struggles with shutter time and low light and that the fingerprint sensor isn't as good as face unlock. Other than that, this phone is a beast.

I have to agree. I’ve had the S20+ since launch and it is an amazing smartphone.

I’m a little disappointed in Anandtech’s findings that they all lack the hardware to support WQHD+ @ 120Hz as I hold my phone very close to my face so Full HD+ just degrades at that distance but oh well. I go back forth with WQHD+ and 120Hz.

Although I will say that iOS is so quick and reliable in its interactions that the difference from 120Hz to my Xs Max isn’t as jarring as 60Hz on the Galaxy.

Every time I think it would be fun to try the S20 (only had the Ultra for a day), I take a picture with my Pixel 4 XL and there's no way I could use a Samsung camera again. Otherwise, I do like Samsung phones quite a bit, and I'd consider an S20 used once the depreciation really sets in.

Edit: lol. People are already selling the Ultra for $400 off on Swappa.

Great deals to be had in these trying times! Heck the Pixel 4 XL is about half off on Swappa now.

I've actually been pretty impressed with the camera on the s20 plus. Doesn't have the autofocus issues of the Ultra and I'm constantly getting good pictures. But it does struggle pretty bad in low light. In low light, I get a lot of blur and slower shutter speed.

Yeah it's the inconsistency that gets me. I took some pictures (on my Pixel) of my kids as they were playing last night. Medium light at best. Used portrait mode and they came out brilliant.

But again, if I can find a deal on the S20 that makes sense, I would totally do it and keep both. I came to the realization that Apple and I need a break from each other for a while, so keeping 2 Androids would be fun.

I will always prefer Pixel shots over other cameras. But this is the first year where I don't have the itch to get rid of my Samsung because I can't live with the camera quality. I think it's actually really good, on top of being the best at almost everything else.

Speaking of half off, unfortunately so is our income; in order to save jobs company wide everyone’s pay above a certain managerial/pay grade is halved. And we are looking out for an unemployed sibling as well. Things are gonna be tight the rest of the year, but manageable, so we can’t complain. We just got the credits in for our Note trade ins, so that’s much appreciated. And that’s it for me for tech purchases the rest of the year.

On the plus side, we have learned so much about identifying and cutting waste. Assuming we live through this, we are going to emerge a much more efficient household.

I thought we were doing well before, because I grew up on Depression era horror stories from my grandparents and refugee horror stories from my mom, so I was raised to not be wasteful. But when you have to make cleaning supplies stretch past shortages it is amazing how much more frugal you can get and still get the job done. Even when we were in the first 8 years of our marriage living the Hamburger Helper life we were not this frugal!😯

I used to watch the Bounty paper towel commercials and see all the cleaning that could get done with one paper towel and I scoffed for years that it was not possible. Well now I’m living it! 🤣

It’s a fantastic lesson for the kids. But they’re hearing a lot of “How dare you throw that paper towel away after one use! There’s a spot on the floor you could clean with it!” I mean business!

I grew up listening to some of the same stories. We grew up poor but stable and never knew that we were a family of little means lol. I guess it was best that way :)

I work in cyber security for a fortune 100 investment/banking firm. They have not mentioned cutbacks of any kind...so far. In-fact I am so busy right now working from home 60 hours a week!

So sorry about your job! Hopefully the stimulus (won't get into the politics of that!) package will help some.
We were pretty lucky to have seen a little of the hoarding coming when the virus first broke out.
We have enough food and supplies to last a couple of months. Then have a cabin waaaaay up in the mountains to bug out if needed! lol

Right now we are doing the video chat thing with relatives. Some are very technically challenged so it is amusing sometimes!

My 12 year old son has volunteered to skip showers to save water.....he is so helpful
Next week he starts online schooling! That will be fun!

Yep! And I sold it and got a Pixel 4 XL.

I've been mostly an iOS guy for the last 5 years and I'm not sure what happened but I just got sick of it. Really happy with Android as a whole recently and I want to give it a fair shot. I'll probably get a 2nd phone at some point. Either a Galaxy or OnePlus.

Hang in there GrumpyMom!

Been using the smaller S20 now for about a week, overall it's an excellent phone, blazing fast, the 120hz refresh is AMAZING, really makes its so buttery smooth. The screen and cameras are again excellent.

I do have some gripes though. One, very disappointed there was no 256gb model, that is my sweet spot. I also really hope the rumors of the smaller Note 20 only having 128gb also aren't true. And yes, I'm using a 128gb SD card, but that doesn't help as most of my storage usage is taken up by apps.

2nd gripe, is that the phone is now slightly too tall for me to use one handed, really have to stretch my thumb to uncomfortable levels to reach.

Gripe 3 is the design. While it's a beautiful phone, the metal edges are too narrow, I really wish they had used the S10e design for this phone, it was probably my favorite phone of last year (and maybe all time favorite Samsung phone, it also had 256gb plus SD card and headphone jack!) How awesome would it be to have an S10e but with updated specs, updated camera, 120hz refresh rate and smaller centered hole punch with smaller bezels?

And that's about it, but even with those gripes, I love this phone overall, excellent phone that should hold me over until the Note 20 comes out later this year (which hopefully I'll still be able to afford, if we are not hit too hard because of this virus). Also got it for a very good deal, traded my pixel 4 and got $600 off (saving my Note 10 for trade in for the 20).
