Nor a new iPhone, that one is definitely out of the question. It will be interesting to see how things play out for Apple's iPhone lineup and sales. If a rabid phone addict like me is stepping back, well...

It's definitely going to be interesting to see how Apple pivots, or doesn't at all, given the coming economic climate. For instance, I'm stuck inside in a European country that's completely in lockdown and I've gone over 3 weeks without having used a single credit card a single time! Although yes, utility payments etc are still going though.

I have literally zero desire to use them in this climate and I'm one of the lucky ones that hasn't been impacted by a job loss. And when I'm out of lockdown it's not like I'm going to rush out to spend anything either. Interestingly I'm finding that I'm needing less and less of all those things I spend money on.

Having said that, in my region I feel that the likes of Samsung and the Android manufacturers are going to be hit harder than Apple. I don't see a lot of iPhone X/Xs/11 out there so they're going to see fewer less sale losses than the others. Personally I won't be buying another phone for quite a while yet with a Galaxy S10 and iPhone Xs.

Not really. But I'm on the regular S20 which I've felt has performed well enough almost since I bought it. It's still a bit slow and not quite as good indoors as a Pixel though it does let more light in.

I just wanted to share something personally exciting to me. For the longest time my mom hasn't really wanted to talk on the phone to me because she's got pretty significant hearing loss and refuses to wear hearing aids or even go to consult about them. She's a real pip and getting her to do anything she takes a notion to avoiding is a major battle.

Anyway, she's just never been comfortable on any of the connections and definitely not when I call from any of my iPhones. So she will say maybe a few words and then hand the phone back to my dad. It's been awhile since I've had a substantial conversation with her and that's bothered me a lot.

But today she said the connection was fantastic and she could hear me so well on my S20. My dad said he's also really enjoyed conversations with me on my s20 and can tell when I'm on the S20 vs any of my other phones. He said this phone is a keeper.

And now my mom wants to talk to me more regularly again! This means so much to me because she's been showing signs of dementia and they clear up a bit the more she converses. I have got a backlog of things I'd love to chat with her about, so wish me luck as I'm going to try calling to speak specifically with her several times a week instead of a few times a month. She can be a bit difficult sometimes, but on a good day there are few people I enjoy more.

Anyway, I just love Pinky all the more for bringing my mom back to me. Even in person she can't hear me well and often we sit there awkwardly unless I try to yell my side of the conversation. Honestly it's like trying to have a conversation with Siri.

But having a phone up to her ear, it goes much better. She's on a good cordless landline.

We've been fortunate in that my husband's job is secure. But to secure the jobs of others, he did take a significant pay cut, that is supposed to be temporary but it's going to be prolonged. Our retirement accounts have taken a hit the same as most people's. And we are helping an extended family member out with some expenses as they have already been unemployed for over a year and have especially poor prospects now. On the other hand, we are saving a fortune on gasoline, so there's that!

We've done very well the past several years but we are definitely not the 1%. And actually, we are currently at the level we anticipated being at during retirement with kids in college. So it was always going to come to this level anyway. That's why I had my fun and played with the phones when I had the chance. It's been a blast.

But yeah, regardless of individual finances, the whole mood of the world is different. Some of us see how the world looks without pollution and don't want to go back to the lifestyles that contributed to all of that. The kids really don't.

I've seen a significant performance increase of the focus/autofocus on the s20 ultra. Apparently there is another update rolling out to further improve things.

Grumpymom - i am very happy to hear your good news regarding your mom - it is refeshing. My job is secure, but I am dealing with the pandemic as part of my job, up close and personal on a daily basis. Its morbid and easy to fall into a seemingly perpetual feeling of dispair. It's little (and significant) bits of good news like that that makes all the difference.

I can’t imagine what it must be like for you. Thank you for all that you’re doing.

I kept looking at the S20+ on Best Buy’s app and that’s never a good thing cause I caved.

I always get the itch this time of year just to see if anything is different or if Sʌᴍsᴜɴɢ or Google has fixed the niggles I still have with Android but alas nope.

I’m happy you guys are all content but I’m just not the Android Fanatic that I used to be, I’ve been spoiled by iOS.

Also after using this S20 I’m done trying Samsung’s offerings after almost breaking the SIM card tray putting it back in the phone, not forcing it or anything, it all of a sudden just started to bend and almost broke. I can’t believe they use cheap freaking plastic for that in a $1100 phone. I looked at the sim tray on my iPhone and yep it’s metal.

I’m glad you all are enjoying the phone though

Here’s a pic of the sim trays.

The plastic SIM tray is a little worrisome and not the best decision, I agree.

Anyone thinking about getting the s20 or plus in the next few months when prices drop, do it. It's the best Android phone I've used to date. The only weakness it has would be camera quality in low light. Otherwise this phone does everything well, if not best in class.

I still prefer the Pixel software experience, but not enough to put up with the rest of Google's shortcuts. After those two, there's a large gap in terms of Android phones in my opinion.

I've been thinking about it every now and then, but then I always remember that the gap between the SnapDragon version everyone's praising here and the Exynos version we get where I live is quite remarkable this time, and not to Exynos' favor.

Yeah there's definitely a difference but I wonder how much is noticeable in everyday use? I'm guess battery life would be the only noticeable difference unless you're a heavy mobile gamer.

20% overall difference on both battery and performance - it is substantial, sadly. Heat during gaming with Exynos is also an issue.

The S20+ with SD865 destroys my 11 Pro Max when it comes to gaming, something I've dabbled in over the last month on these phones. F1 racing, Mariokart Tour, RBI 20 all suffer from terrible stutter on the iPhone after 10 minutes, sometimes less, perhaps due to throttling / heat. Everything is silky smooth for as long as I play on the S20+ and the phone doesn't get as hot as the 11 Pro Max.

Anyone else notice similar behavior? I am thinking about taking the nuclear option with my iPhone and resetting as new to see if that makes any difference.

After months of use I am still admiring Note10+ to this minute and can't imagine my day without it
With how small the upgrades are these days to Mobile Phones i think ill keep my Note 10 for a few years until i see a worthwhile replacement. Was going to get the Note 20 but after seeing reviews on the S20 line i think i can wait at least another year. Will use the cash i save for something else.

Absolutely but i still think i will wait, The Note 10+ does everything i need, its a great phone

I skipped s20 but still not sure about Note20, lets wait and see whats on the menu. My biggest worry is the increased curved screen. Even though Note10+ looks flat, the annoying accidental touches still there but its not an issue if you use a case.

agree with you that the sim tray could be sturdier.....but I have never ever had to press hard enough to bend one.
I switch phones a LOT and constantly swap sims. If it takes that much force to to insert a sim tray something is wrong and it is best to make sure everything is seated correctly and try again.

Snagged an Ultra online for $900 and have been loving it! With the latest update focus in the camera is basically a non-issue now.

Will I dump my 11 Pro Max for it though? We'll see in the next week...

What I don't get is why Samsung tries to sell their phones at a super high price and then subsidizes it with "goodies" and other promos? Why not just cut the cheese and sell the phones cheaper where it's simple like Profit = Revenue - Cost? Undercutting other competitors is probably feasible still. If the regular S20 started at like $699? That would easily encourage many to go over that product than the iPhone 11 Pro at $1000.

They probably think the super high MSRP makes them look like a super elite device.
