I don't think updates will fix s20 ultra issues. Its all about badly calibrated lenses and poor techniques, Not software

Here we goooooooooo.....i was right after all, if i knew that 2 months ago how could Samsung not ? They were trying hard to fix the issue with multiple update.

I moved for the XR to S20 Ultra, and couldn't be happier. Unlocked/Snapdragon. Runs well, great screen. The camera is fine for my use, so not sure there's so much hate unless people just like to complain? 😃

Looking forward to seeing the Note20+ in August, or whenever it's released.

I think that is a plausible possibility, but that is also far away from a concrete souce, so that it for what it is worth.

Not trying to defend the phone. It is a great phone. I will likely be moving back to an iphone or pixel soon, due to unrelated reasons and nothing against the phone itself.

Good job for me I don't really care too much about the camera. The phone has been great for me. I've got the exynos version and I know its been unfavourably compared to the snapdragon but ive had no issues at all. I'm happy I kept the ultra.
What has your battery been like with the Exynos plus your daily use case?

Plenty concrete sources if you google it but yeah it was obvious the defect was due to poor compatibility between the main lenses and other parts of s20 ultra.

No...there is lot of opinions and theories, some well founded in an understanding of the physics I’d the camera and some not so well founded.

A concrete source would be an PR statement explaining away the problems by Samsung. Not some a report, from a Korean forum, from a theoretical Samsung rep, whom may or may not be privy to that knowledge.

The autofocus speed has greatly improved, due to software updates. There is probably room for more improvement, but it won’t ever be as fast as the s20 due to the physics of the camera. Period. Is it worth the trade off? You can’t answer that, as it is a personal preference.

Secondly, your article if I recall correctly, is speaking to the focal length of the camera and the physical limitations that are likely to prevent the camera from ever being able to take as close of a macro shot as a s20, pixel, iphone, or OnePlus. I absolutely believe that to be the likely case, but that is also the reality for other phones with similar camera modules. The upside is a significantly enhanced optical zoom. Again, personal preference.

Nothing I am seeing points to poor compatibility. What does that even mean? I am seeing a need for software optimization, which is regrettable but not exactly unheard of for a first gen product, and the ultra is very much a first gen product when it comes to the camera. I am also seeing what is likely a trade off in the physical design but one that has its net positives and negatives.

Also, just a unrelated thought, but the pricing issue with the s20 line is not unique to Samsung. We see it with the OnePlus 8 pro and will continue to see it with phones equipped with the snapdragon 855. Samsung 100% deserves blame for equipping the international version of this phone with an inferior far inferior exynos chip and charging the same price.

Phonearena & Gizchina are credible tech sourcess , i didn't post anything from Korean forum.

The s20 ultra lenses are powerful & reliable but they should not be boarded on a phone. As you can see they are stretched, overkilled and probably not supported by the best software for its use to function as supposed to be.

The article from phonearena is literally about a post in a Korean forum from a Samsung moderator.....

Where it comes from doesn’t make it credible. Even if it was from the NYT, it is on the reader to validate the information and dry a real conclusion. Not just blindly believe the a title, or so forth.

Its the same as always, some people for whatever reason, take a dislike to a phone and are almost happy to see any negativity generated from it. Its a strange thing that someone is so bothered to constantly go on about it and are pleased to be proved right.

Now the initial launch has calmed down, prices have settled a bit so I think I'm finally going to pull the trigger on an S20 5G. I worked out that I pay £31 for my SIM only deal (with all the extras) and the S20 5G would cost £47 - so a net cost of £384 over the two years. And I actually prefer the size of the smaller one out of the 3. I can get £450 for trading in my iPhone and Apple watch, which basically means the switch is pretty much zero net cost (other than the cost of replacing the watch, but Android watches seem to be much much cheaper).

I've slowly been moving things away from iCloud, etc. The only thing I haven't sorted a replacement for is my Apple Watch (which, tbh, I hardly ever use as a smart watch so whatever).

Only thing I can't decide - blue or black!

The May security update is already being rolled out to S20 devices in some countries. But some people will still call Samsung's UI lagwiz and talk about how they never update their devices.

That's good. They better keep it up. Year 1 and 2 is more important though. Getting those One UI/major OS updates is what probably gets more notice.

i wonder if every country will get these updates? I’m looking to buy the next Note (20 is what it’s rumoured to be called) but with living in the U.K I wonder what updates I’m likely to get and how often.

I’m looking forward to what Samsung have to announce with the Note 20, I’m hoping it will be a great device. The Note 10 is appealing.

I have the international variant, but I notice UK seem to fare well and I would say the last 3 models it's not really a concern.

Its the US because of their carriers who seem to lag a little and then you have to remember these are mainly security updates and there are virtually no reports of issues because someone is late in receiving them.

It's an old Apple vs Android clutching at straws argument and like ECO arguments it's trivia these days

It seems like Samsung have come a long way, the last time I tried a Samsung phone it was the S4. I’m glad to hear that there are regular updates.

Roll on August for the announcement of the Note 20. I wonder if there will be any pre-order bonuses this year.

While not the Note, I have the S10e and since buying it new seven months ago, I have received security and software updates every month (about the 6th day) here in Finland.

I would not hold your breath according to @Shanghaichica UK normally sucks on bonus bundles

I just helped one of my colleagues upgrade her phone to the note 10 plus and now I’m feeling a little bit jealous Lol

The pre-order goodies are usually very hit and miss. Sometimes we get nothing and other years it isn’t much in comparison to the US and the Asian markets.

I do really like the Note 10, the S Pen will really be handy for me I think. Also coming from an iPhone and being able to multi screen/multi task will be good. My only fear is adjusting to a new OS, however I’m sure I will get use to it over time. The design looks a lot better than the iPhone.

I wonder why we in the U.K don’t get as good A pre-order bonuses as other countries? maybe it’s because they know people will buy it here anyway?

fingers crossed the Note 20 will be as good as the Note 10, especially the S pen features!

I am mostly over my fatigue from a suspected mild but dragged out case of Covid and finally got out and about to take some photos. I’m noticing focusing on my S20 on things up close isn’t as crisp as I’d like sometimes. If there’s even a slight breeze my close up photos of flowers turn out a bit soft with the S20, but still in crisp focus on my 11Pro. I’m getting some nice color, though.

I’m actually kind of missing the photos my S7 Edge used to take. I still have my S7... the temptation to fire it up again is returning. Lol. The S7 series did have some funky super saturated colors.

Indoor photos are gorgeous when they are in focus. But without a doubt the smaller S20 also struggles in indoor lighting to get a good photo of a moving subject. When the kitties are napping I get nice photos. When they’re up and about I reach for my 11 Pro.

Glad you have recovered. I’m convinced that I also have had a long case of covid (5 weeks) but I’m finally feeling better. It’s a shame that the S20 line isn’t as good at close up shots because previous Samsung phones were one of the best at macro shots.
