Oh no, not you, too! Yeah the virus manifests differently in different people. My family demonstrated varying degrees of symptoms and recovery times. I had a long scary bout of heart inflammation that forced me to stay very inactive. I often get that with any bug, but usually it lasts just a day or two, not weeks. I’m glad you’re recovering and I hope your family is well.

I think lockdown and self quarantine has exacerbated any dissatisfaction my husband has had with his S20 Ultra. Mine, not quite as much. But under normal circumstances, our family would have traveled at least once, maybe twice to different beaches by now. And we would have put our zooms to more use.

I know my husband would have had fun with the Ultra’s zoom capabilities. I was quite impressed with even the more modest zoom on my S 20 the other day. I was zooming in on wildlife and getting pics I never could get decently before. That was fun!

But the regular indoor family photos we’ve been limited to taking have a slight disadvantage relative to iPhone photos because we, at least, have noticed the cameras are just not as good at working fast in low light. They hold the lens open to take in more light, which is fantastic in static scenes, but that means more motion blur with living subjects. I think iPhones probably do the same, but the faster A13 Bionic Chip is a force to be reckoned with doing Pixel-like computational photography to speed things along to capture the moment. While being at less mercy to the physical limitations of the mechanical specs of the cameras. Samsung is simply a bit behind on computational photography.

Of course, there’s a pro mode to be investigated and practiced and I fully intend to reacquaint myself with it. My husband is working from home, but has lost vacation time. So he doesn’t have a commute to deal with, which is nice, but he also has actually had less opportunity to play with his phones than he normally would have by now. If we would have done a better job anticipating the reality of the life changes Covid would have wrought on daily routines, I think he would have stuck with his Note. It would have served him better than the Ultra has.

For me, I’m definitely happier with my S20. I’m loving the crazy immense pixel density for content consumption. The smaller lighter size gives my wrists a break, too. lol, I’ve strained them playing more on my Nintendo Switch than usual. Even my husband has got an Animal Crossing town going.😬

Just started using my unlocked S20+ with AT&T (post-paid family plan) and am noticing some of the little annoying things that Android users in my position have to deal with. For whatever reason, AT&T doesn't seem to allow unlocked Android phones to use WiFi calling nor allow visual voicemail to work. After searching for answers to the issue, AT&T-branded S20 phones work with the 2 aforementioned features just fine.

They cite software incompatibilities as the reason, but my first-gen unlocked iPhone SE from a different carrier is able to use those features just fine.

By biggest issue with the S20 compared to iOS is notification ordering. For some reason, it's impossible to get notifications ordered by time. It's very annoying to have your phone been and the notification be buried at the bottom of the screen.

Other than that, I'm loving it. It's a breath of fresh air after being on iOS for so long.

I find WiFi calling doesn’t sound too good on my phones that use it. I guess our WiFi sucks. I don’t know. I only use my S20 to call out. My iPhone is my primary phone even though the call quality isn’t as good as my S20, which is my gold standard for call quality. I don’t make many calls anymore except to my dad, though.

I thought we could get visual voicemail on the S20 even though it’s unlocked. I see the app on mine. I haven’t had occasion to use it so can’t say if it works.

Interesting. iOS vs Android is a very subjective topic but I've rarely heard anyone prefer the iOS notifications. Personally I think notifications on iOS is miles behind Android.

I've never had a good experience with WiFi calling. It's great as a fallback option if your in a pinch, but call quality is definitely worse and there's always a delay so I constantly am stepping on other people during the conversation.

I think it's just what I'm used to. I've been an iPhone user since day 1 in 2007, so I'm just used to a chronological list of what made my phone beep, so to speak.

Also, and I think Linus mentioned this in one of his reviews... I cannot, for the life of me, get Microsoft Teams notifications to work. They just refuse to come through.

I think that's an issue with the Teams app. I have the same issue. They actually come through but then dismiss themselves. I have no idea why.

I have to agree. Notifications on Android are far superior. On ios they just clog up my notification planel and get lost. They are organized a lot better on Android.

I love my S20. It's easily the best smartphone I've ever used so far. It is blazing fast. The screen is amazing. It almost never closes apps or web pages. The camera has been great. The underscreen fingerprint sensor has worked great for me. Battery has been solid for me. Cell reception is great. I mean overall it's just been excellent. Very impressed.

Oh I’m so envious the fingerprint sensor works for you! It hardly ever works for me, so I have it set to recognize my face. That feature is slower than I am used to with Face ID.

I agree it works amazingly well as an actual phone. Calls are crisp and clear. It holds onto signal well. Where I live signal strength can drop dramatically depending on where I happen to be in the house or yard. This can sometimes throw my iphone off a teensy bit during a voice call but the S20 handles it with ease.

The pictures it takes indoors are very bright. I appreciate the improved color accuracy I’ve noticed on the S20 vs my previous Samsung’s.

Just clean your hands well, make sure they are dry, leave for 5 mins or so, then delete your fps and start again.

I’ve tried it all. The only FPS that work well for me are the second generation Apple ones and the Pixel phone ones. I think my Pixel 2 and 3XL have the fastest fingerprint sensors I’ve ever used.

Even Samsung ones didn’t work for me until the S9+. And that one was hit or miss. I even have good fingerprints now. When I was working a lot of landscaping jobs, my hands and prints were a mess.

Samsungs old rectangle sensors were awful. The recognition was fine but whoever decided a rectangular sensor made sense is an idiot. It was different just for the sake of being different.

Word is the latest update that's starting to roll out finally has significant improvements with autofocus and fingerprint reader speed. Apparently there's also on option to turn of the ripple animation. Should probably be a couple weeks still until we start seeing this in the states.

Was auto focus only an issue with the ultra? Wasn’t aware s20 had those issues

i think a lot of this is hardware and why samsung have said to have got new camera system in place for note 20 that will stop auto focus problems.

Mostly with the Ultra but the autofocus on the smaller s20s aren't great either. Not bad, but not on par with some of the other flagships.

Bit late but seems to have a a few camera updates for my Fold:

How has the Fold held up for you? I havent heard much about this phone since its release.
It's been excellent and saved me a fortune I normally buy 2 or 3 phones a year just for fun but it's hard to loose the extra real estate once you have a Fold :)

The front screen is mainly just an AOD and for less conspicuous snaps plus quick notifications and the odd phone call

But in truth you get so use to un-folding I can't say I use the front screen in anger and same goes for multi screen it's seldom used

It's just joy to have everything that bit bigger and clearer. The side FP scanner seemed a step back at first but once muscle memory it trained it's a non issue. It's faster than under screen FP and even Apple face unlock, as simply it's unlocked as you pull it out of your pocket ,once use to it.

Same goes for all those daft comments on the bulk in your pocket, the cross section profile being quite slim is the governing factor

I will be getting the Fold 2 on release and if the styling is anything like the renders of the Note 20 that would be ideal and an S pen inclusion is icing on the cake :)

Just downloaded Hex Installer with the AOSP theme, and my S20's Pixel conversion is nearly complete, status icons (wifi and cellular signal) have now been pixelized, along with having a dark gray background rather than fully black.

I ran Hex for a while but I felt like it was a little buggy and introduced a little lag.

I thought you were a Pixel 4 XL owner?
