I just tried to take some pictures of a black cat near a lamp with my husbands s21 Ultra. It was sitting on my husband’s lap. With the S21 Ultra there was a lot of glare from the lamp, like bad lens flare. With the iPhone 12 Pro Max there’s no glare and it looks like what my eyes see.

Low light performance so far is in need of improvement if this result is any indication. There is a little shutter lag but I need to test more. I don’t know what settings my husband has so I’m not worrying about anything yet. He has fallen asleep watching tv so I got to steal it for a few minutes again. Lol.

The display is excellent. I didn’t have it for very long but brief surfing of this forum was comfortable and I thought looked much like my very fine s20 display. PWM effects can take time to show up on me so I can’t say anything definitive until I get my own and have at least 3 days with it.

The black color is stunning. But the clear case I bought for my own, that my husband is borrowing for his black phone doesn’t do it justice. That’s often been my observation with clear cases and dark colored phones. Clear cases are better with lighter colors.

So I think a nice black leather or silicone is the way to go. Or carbon fiber.

Edit: Just did a quick test again and this time with Night Mode turned on. Much better now! Can do a Max of 8 seconds on the 3x zoom. My 12 Pro Max does 4 seconds.

Spent an hour and a half setting up my ultra. Love the phone and it's a huge beast but in a good way.

I am a bit sad to report I had my first flash of vertigo since the day I sold my 12 pro (been using a Pixel 5). So I'm afraid the pwm may do me in on this device but I'll give it a few days to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

I was using it on the 120 hz adaptive setting. My s20 display is a little easier on my eyes, just a hair easier to focus on text. So I want to try the S21 Ultra on 60hz and see what that changes. Unfortunately my husband woke up and took his phone back sigh.

I honestly can’t really notice the much touted wonders of 120hz refresh, anyway. I’ve tried it on FHD+ and WQHD and nope, it isn’t the holy grail for me. For me, the S20 was already made smoother by changing some other thing. Touch latency or something. I forget but it wasn’t the 120 Hz refresh rate.

Yes. He's Apple's #1 brand ambassador here at MR.

Funny how every time Samsung releases a great product, people like to come here to try to rain on the parade.

Do they get paid?
Or is it just “love” for Apple
Honestly just curious.
Sometimes it puzzles me how uptight people get.
By the way we also own several Apple devices but hey it can really get overboard on here.

can anybody confirm the uk model also doesn’t have a screen protector fitted as I saw a review saying it did? I’ve bought some just in case anyway

Less than 24 hrs with the Ultra but so far I have zero complaints.

It's thickness takes some getting used to and it's definitely heavy, but it feels good in hand and the weight is distributed so much better than the S20 Ultra.

Haven't tried the camera out beyond a few quick shots but the shutter lag has definitely improved. It's still not instant like the Pixels, but it's faster than before.

The screen is insanely good, battery seems really good, fingerprint scanner is faster, and the matte black is the best color on any phone I've ever had. Unless something changes, I'm definitely keeping this.

I also got the spen case. I've only tried to briefly but it feels pretty good. The width makes it feel like the 12 pro max but it's not too bad. The Spen feels way better than previous versions since it's bigger.

My exact thoughts! I'll be getting the camera tested out more this weekend but so far so good. If you haven't noticed yet, there are a ton of new Portrait Mode options/filters that are really awesome.

Also agreed that the heaviness was kind of a turn off at first but now I'm completely ok with it.

And damn, I wish the S-Pen case wasn't backordered for me. I don't get it until Feb 23rd!

Yea I have been watching some YouTube videos, they show the silicon case with SPen, it looks really bulky. The other case doesn’t seem too bad tho (the one that has the clear view and spen).

I’m not going to lie, I have been tempted by the Ultra. However I’m holding out too see what happens with the Note.

I think it's one of those niche cases where you would only use it in situations where you know you'll need to use the pen and that you'll need it close by. For me, that's rare but I still ordered it since I had $260 in free Samsung credits, lol.
