I'm fine with them merging at this point. There's literally no difference between the two other than the S series feeling much more comfortable in the hand and not being able to insert the S-Pen. When the Bluetooth S-Pen comes out, just let it be charged wirelessly or via the USB-C port in the phone, and we're good.

If they going to merge they better keep Note line's wide/square corners and lot better if the s pen lived inside.

Merge between the 2 will be avoided so Note series will survive. As we've seen last year the the poor sales of s20 line brought back the merger idea.

I dont think poor sales of the S20 had anything to do with the idea of merging the Note line. The S line is much more popular than the Note line. The design choices between the two have merged them closer and closer together to the point where they are just eating into each others sales and theres not enough difference to justify the engineering and resources. With the emergence of the Fold lineup, it makes no sense to have two flagship candybar style devices when the only thing that separates them is that one had the S-pen and less rounded corners.

I’ve been thinking about this since rumors of discontinuation with the Note series. I understand @Dave245 has been anxious to keep the series alive, but business-wise it makes sense for the two flagships to converge.

The Fold lineup isn’t for everyone, but it’s one of those things.. that’s pushing innovation.
I'd say if anything strong S21 sales might lead them to believe people were unsure of the note so bought the S series now.
As @animalx noted, the coorelation between the two has no connection. If we are talking about S21 Ultra, then yes… Note fans will flock to that model since it‘s the only one of the S21 series that supports S-Pen functionality. I think strong S21 sales is pretty much upgrades of the S models (S10 and below). And on top of that, Samsung provides crazy amount of incentives to push those sales.

Funny how tastes can differ. The boxed edges were the one thing that I didn't enjoy as much about the Note. It would always jab my hand. S21 Ultra is so much more comfortable to hold.

My Smart Tag seems to be missing in action. It didn’t arrive with the shipment I received of my phone and 2 cases and for awhile my account information reflected that fact. Now they’re saying I did receive it but there’s no indication in my FedEx account that it was sent and received separately.

I don’t know if I feel like getting lost in their customer service labyrinth or sitting on hold to deal with it. My husband doesn’t know what to do with his tag so I’ll probably ask him for it. I want it for my backpack or my keys. I’m forever misplacing both and running around like a headless chicken looking for them. Although not so much since I’ve been at home. But schools are inexplicably reopening so it will be good to track my gear!

Oh and I am not a cat. If you don’t know what that’s in reference to, do a search on Lawyer stuck on cat filter during Zoom meeting. I haven’t seen anything so funny in ages.

I'm watching a 1080p movie from Amazon Prime. It looked juddery so I went and turned the display resolution down to match and put the 60 hz refresh back on. That fixed it. I also went to Natural from Vivid for no particular reason other than to match the settings I run on my s20.

Fantastic display for watching movies and the sound is very good, too. The s21 Ultra keeps up with my former 11 Pro and 12 Pro Max for sound quality, in my subjective opinion, of course.

The one drawback for me with this phone is lack of imessage which makes sharing photos require sending a link to my gallery. I don't like having a link to my gallery sent via a messaging system that doesn't have end to end encryption.

Since it's just family for now I may put everyone over to Signal.

Yep. If I have any major complaint, it's that I literally have to train all of my family to not send videos over messaging and to use something like Facebook Messenger.

The reason I’m anxious about the Note, is because of the Note 20 Ultra I had last year, I really liked it but sent it back because of the battery life/Exynos. This year it seems that they have for the most made the Exynos chip better. I really didn’t want to send the Note 20 Ultra back, I missed it after I did (especially the S-Pen functionality).

If they do indeed cancel the Note series and merge it with the S lineup, I’m either going to bite the bullet and try out the S21 or wait and see if they offer a more permanent solution to the SPen being inside the device with the S22 next year.

I do think Samsung would be silly to discontinue the Note lineup without saying anything and or without making one last Note device.

In the meantime, there have been notable updates and should see even IneUI 3.1. In the coming days/wks.

I have the "little" Note 20 along with S21 (wishing now us gone for S21+) and after 2 weeks prefer the Note20 of the two.
I really hope the Note doesn't go away, now after 10 years.

Its not silly, when you take a step back and understand that it's a smart decision to discontinue Note lineup. I believe the introduction S21 Ultra with S-Pen support carries Samsung thoughts behind the Note series. Plenty of rumors are indicating that there's no manufacturing being done for any upcoming Note lineup.

Why make one last Note device when the major selling point of having an S-Pen is supported by S21 Ultra?

They might do as note FE but of course it will be a midrange device.

I can understand why people would prefer the Note series and want it to continue even if the S series now has the S Pen.

But some of the signs for its continuation are a bit concerning. We can only wait and see. Rumors and leaks should start in a couple of months if it's in production. But keep an eye on what else gets the S Pen and how it's implemented. If it is integrated into the body of the next Fold that is probably our answer.

I'm still getting set up and settled in. I am so into this phone! So far it's my favorite Samsung phone, finally overthrowing the S9+ in my regard. Wow. The FPS works for me about as well as face ID does now. I am very happy about that. Unfortunately to continue to enjoy this level of success I may need to forgo a screen protector. I'm going to try and install a Spigen one tomorrow. Sometimes I go caseless indoors just to enjoy the beauty!

I think you are right on this point. I'm still using the LK screen protector and it's great overall, but I have about a 50% success rate on the FP sensor on the first try. I'm constantly re-scanning. I'm torn on going protectorless or feeling safe from scratches with the protector.

Mine has a factory screen protector fitted, the fingerprint scanner works every time.
Probably not that helpful seeing as the US models didn't come with a screen protector but mine works flawlessly.

Pretty sad battery life for the first day.

Hardly used it at all, and it drained pretty fast.

Also not super enamored with the camera.

I didn't used to use screen protectors but that was back when the glass was harder but more brittle. Now they've made items brittle but more vulnerable to scratches. Argh.

My battery seems to drain fast but it charges fast so it hasn't been a problem for me. I never pay attention to battery stats the first week anymore because if they start great they become awful. And if they start awful they become good. The former is especially true of my experience on iPhones. I'll get an iPhone that performs beautifully and has amazing battery life then a couple of iOS updates later I'm left wondering what the hell happened. Fortunately my 12 Pro Max hasn't gone that way yet and may not until the battery is well and truly through enough charging cycles where I lose the right to complain.

So anyway I don't really know beyond a very general impression how my battery is doing. I know I'm going to keep it, so I will just have to cope with whatever it ends up being. But I am definitely interested in reading of everyone's impressions. Mine is the Snapdragon one.

Exynos or SD?

Been on the XDA forums and I can’t believe how badly they are trashing the camera. Dunno if it’s more exynos issues on there or not but the image processing looks rather bad on some of the shots of pets for example.

Maybe it can be sorted with software update but for an android based forum I was shocked to see some of the responses and disappointed to see

They probably are iphone fans because the experts say otherwise

I have been nothing but pleased with this camera. Probably the best camera experience I've ever had on a Samsung and I have been very critical of Samsung camera performance in the past.

Google play services should not be running in the background like that. You can google how to clear that up as I know it's an android issue that's been around for a while.
