My "favorite" YouTube videos are the "S21 Ultra vs iPhone 12 Pro Max Head to Head" and then they don't pick a winner.

Said a lot though when Jon Rettinger did one of these videos and straight up picked the Ultra. He's normally an iPhone guy.

I saw that video. I also liked the pocket now comparison. I hate it when they don’t pick a winner. They just play it safe and just reel off the specs and then never get round to picking a winner.

Fedex delivered my S21U a day early. Blue is definitely worth the wait and the design is beautiful like professional DSLR. Only shipped with ~30% battery so recharging it after setting it up.

That charged up super fast with Macbook Air USB-C brick since the Samsung one hasn't arrived yet. Turned off 'super fast charging' in settings to prolong battery health and will use it on-demand when needed.

Honestly there isn't enough of a difference in flagship cameras these days to notice what's better. there will be times one will be better than the other. So for stills I think it really just does depend on the lighting. I think the days where people choosing one over the other for camera is not that important. unless of course amazing zoom is your thing as then the ultra is the best and obvious choice. I do think improving cameras each year there are improvements and I guess thats what companies market as really thats the only standout thing where you can see improvements
I get what you're saying, but I have to disagree to a point. The difference in zoom has mattered to me, and also megapixels matter to me. One reason for both of those is because I've started doing something a little different. I've started making canvases out of some of the pictures I take when I'm on vacation.
In this picture, we were on a pier in Key West trying to get pictures of the pelicans diving into the water. She used her iPhone 11 Pro Max and I used my Note 20 Ultra. Since we were on the pier, we had to use our zoom to get good shots of them. Our results were very noticeable, right down to the motion recording in the pictures. Mine picked up better frames from the motion setting (which is how I got the frame of the pelican hitting the water). Her pictures weren't absolutely awful, but they didn't look nearly as good. I eventually blew mine up into a canvas, and this is the result..

It’s funny because different videos will put different handsets out ahead.

Yeah, personally I think the iPhone does the best at video, they all look good photo wise but Samsung looks pretty ordinary at 2x.
The Galaxy is great at macro and zoom. and apart from the interpolated low zoom, the photos look good.

Huawei still the best at night shots imo.

Overall, I'm impressed with my camera in the S21, you have to temper your expectations of all these cameras, people expect magic out of the box, you have to put a little effort in to get great results.
They are all good cameras.

The new isocell 50 MP sounds interesting....

Here's another example. We both took pictures of the sunrise in Cancun. I used the 108 megapixel setting to get the best detail I could get. She took her picture. The picture on her phone looked good, but there was a distinct difference when it was blown up when compared to mine. We decided to use mine as the one to make the canvas out of.

With your video recording, change your settings to 60fps. For some reason, Samsung thought it a great idea to default it at 30fps.

Here's a cool feature they added to Good Lock for the 21 Ultra now. Of course it was available for the older devices, but it's cool to be able to do on the 21 family now too. So in case people aren't aware of it, this is it.

Yeah, mine's at UHD60.
Still think the iPhone is better at video though, just one its strengths, still happy with my video though :)

He actuality said it was less about the size and more that iOS doesn't account for the size the way Samsung does with OneUI, so it's much more of a chore ton use the Max with one hand.

Also, in his Max review he was pretty blunt that the camera was not a noticeable upgrade from the 12 Pro.

Actually he said he uses the regular Pro because the Max is too cumbersome to use.
Yes you are right. It was super saf that uses the pro max. I remember now he said that the pro max doesn’t make use of the extra real estate and because of that he didn’t see the reason in getting the larger iPhone and just got the pro.

Really is spot on too. Imagine the 12 Pro Max with a split screen or my gosh, even the ability to place your favorite apps/widgets on the bottom of the screen.

Techinally you can with apps like clear space. Agree on spilt screen though. Hope it comes with iOS 15

The moon photos have become cliche at this point but I am absolutely amazed to see it in person.

15 years ago you would have been happy to get this shot with thousands of dollars in camera gear.

It is amazing, even during the day, the day moon looks cool.

Before the S21 Ultra I tried taking the red moon when we had the fires and it was pointless or rather just a little dot.

They unfortunately can’t pick a winner. The comments are so toxic when in the past someone has made the mistake of declaring a winner. And goodness help a female reviewer who declares a winner, or even hints at having a preference; the threats I’ve seen a few years ago are sick.

There are just too many crazy people who take these things personally and have nothing better to do than go to war on people for having an opinion that differs from theirs.
