I think you are missing the point. Or at least I‘m wrong. But I thought the issue isn’t a battery defect, but Apple knowingly throttled iPhones when battery was poor.

The issue is Apple should have let us be aware of this… whereas not sharing this information pushed customers to upgrade their iPhones. If this information was shared… customers wouldn’t upgrade, but replace the battery on their iPhone instead.
No worries..but I think I acknowledged that in my probably too long a rant of a post :)

i was going to let this go but...since we are expressing our opinions....
Sorry but this was inexcusable. They had a known battery defect and ignored it. They played God and figured they knew what was best for its customers...total BS.They should have issued a recall or offered to fix the issue without having a class action suit filed and all the bad press coverage.
They throttled the phone without informing customers they were doing it to cover up the battery defect.
So what happened to people who noticed their phone was slow at certain times? Well naturally they upgraded to a new phone because that is what loyal Apple customers do.

Here we have a company covering up a known defect with slowing down the product....which in turn drove new product sales making the company millions of dollars. They made money slowing down the product. It would have cost them money fixing or replacing the defective part in the product.

So take Apple out of the equation and apply this to say a car or whatever products. Would you still defend a company doing this? I don't think people would accept this from other companies to be honest.
Then they were not proactive about this...they only came out with this information after people had hard evidence they were throttling.....at first they denied it.....

Then I am not just dumping on Apple here. Because I believe every big corporation will or have done this sort of thing.
They all have their bottom line in mind over their customers
I respect that opinion but I’ve made myself clear and we disagree. That’s cool. That can happen with reasonable people (I like to think I am anyway, hard to say lol)

I’ve already need “moderated” once in the last week when someone else in another thread took it off course and I bit.

Apparently there are 2 things you and I will never agree on: Huawei as a security threat here in the U.S. and the alleged “batterygate” from a few years ago Lol.

No biggie. It’s all just something to talk about to pass the time. I’m very happy with my P6 Pro but I still follow this thread since I like to know what’s going on with all these phones even if this one doesn’t really interest me. I was never an S-pen Note guy so this boxy phone falls flat for me.

I really enjoyed last years design much more when I had it.

That’s all for me on this topic. Hopefully I avoid another “talking to” unlike last time ?.

Edit: Also just trying to pass the time until the years pass and my Galaxy S8 Ultra evertually ships…

This display is so nice! So immersive and beautiful!

And apparently I am not suffering with any ill effects from pwm on the maxed out settings. I love how I can adjust the display and get just the right level of warmth and saturation for my visual comfort. I'm not even in the best shape due to poor sleep and yet I am still very comfortable reading on the display. I've even got a new ebook to check out when I'm stuck waiting for something or someone. I'm also able to switch comfortably amongst my iPhone 11 and pixel 6 Pro displays. Given the severity of my problems on iPhone 13 Pro, this is a huge relief to me and my family.

Nevertheless, I try to limit my screen time because there's just so much we don't know about the long term effects on our health from these technologies.

I don’t care what anyone says, they did it to save your phone from randomly shutting down (possibly in a critical situation) for people who were to obtuse to realize their battery was shot and needed a new one. You didn’t even have to go to Apple for it. There was nothing nefarious (like forcing people to buy a new iPhone) about it.

I don’t even use an iPhone anymore and I’ll still defend this action. Should they have been more transparent about it initially? Absolutely. Did they do it to force you into a new iPhone? Not even close to anything resembling the truth. Other than those looking for a false “narrative” (hate that word) where they had an axe to grind already and needed something, anything to hold on to it.
As you are defending the action, what is your explanation for Apple not being transparent?

This will be my final word on this. I defend what they were trying to do but not how they went about it. There’s no excuse for them not to be transparent about it. Attack them for that all day, that’s fine. It made them look bad and opened them up to this type of criticism. They should have been up front about what they were doing and why.

Planned obsolescence with iPhones (and I don’t use one anymore!) annoys me to no end. They can’t get credit for industry leading software support and attacked for planned obsolescence at the same time. I understand 2 things can be true at the same time but these 2 diametrically opposed things cannot sit side-by-side together. Not in my line of thinking anyway.

The rest is open to the floor. I’m out of this topic before I get in trouble again.

I’m still really toying with the idea of getting a s22 ultra but can’t decide. It’s the Apple Watch that holds me back the most as not only do I have to buy the phone but I have to buy a new smart watch too. I am in the uk and so would the the Exynos version of the processor. I’ve read a few negative things about that so that is holding me back too. But having owned a note 8 in the last there is something about this new sort of note that is really appealing!

Would 8gb of RAM be enough for 4 years?
I think it depends on how you’re using it. If you’re like me and reflexively close apps you’re not using and tend to run only one or two apps at a time, it should be fine. I don’t imagine they will add too many camera app updates to stress the phone beyond what it’s promising to do now.

When my husband realized the Pixel 3XL was given insufficient RAM he was playing music through it and tried to pull up the camera app to snap a photo of dolphins swimming past. The phone couldn’t handle that.

If you’re concerned stress test it by running it through what you think you may realistically throw at it on a worst case scenario day when you’ll be wanting to run several apps at once.

Unfortunately I can’t speak for Dex use since I’ve not done that.

To me it seems Samsung has worked to make their phones use RAM more efficiently than ever.

LOL well I’m glad someone got a chuckle. It’s funny you mention that, though. I don’t really give much thought to my avatar since it’s just one I use and it’s second nature to me, but a while back on Twitter I was mentioning something about baseball and unwittingly used the word “hijack,” and I didn’t even give it a second thought until someone said it was ironic considering my avatar. So it isn’t the first time someone said something relating to that 😳

First of all: congrats to those using the new devices. I currently use Z Fold 2 as my main device. And I truly love the quality speakers it has. Is there anyone who has both the Ultra and Z Fold 2/3? And how are the speakers volume and quality on Ultra when compared to those on Fold 2/3? P.S. and how are the speakers of Ultra compared to iPhone 13 pro max? Thanks in advance.

I have the S22 Ultra and the Fold 3 (soon to be sent back as trade). The Fold 3 speaker quality definitely has more depth. Other than that, pretty much the same loudness. I don't have an iP13 pro max to compare.

This ^^^^^^ is my dilemma all the time. I am slowly weaning myself from the ecosystem though.
Me too and it’s not really an issue for me, becomes less of one over time and the reason I use google services when possible. I actually prefer Google Maps, Photos, Mail, Contacts, and Assistant to Apple’s native apps. I use a Surface Pro bc of Windows business apps that aren’t available on Mac; I tired of paying the Apple tax for Mac hardware and then incurring added expense of buying Parallels and Office/Windows every time I upgraded my Mac. Not to mention update headaches. This all happened about the time of the dreadful butterfly keyboards so I said goodbye to Mac and went back to a Windows machine after 20 years with Mac. Then the Samsung thing vs Apple ecosystem became not so much of an issue. And I really like the Surface line.

I do like Apple Watch and think it’s somewhat better than Samsung watch, although less so with each iteration. Our family/friends use Whatsapp/Snapchat/Messenger so iMessage isnt a huge issue except with my mom who has iphone and ipad and is hugely tech-challenged.?. Which is the only reason I still use iphone as primary device. I dont like the fact Apple continues to keep imessage locked down (they could easily offer an Android version, even if it was subscription-based) to make things difficult for someone who might want or need to switch away from their hardware. Same with the Apple Watch. Just a turnoff IMO. Make the hardware more compelling and offer more features instead of holding back improvements instead of throwing up roadblocks to retain customers. I honestly don’t see huge differences with app quality but maybe I’m not using as many apps. Carplay and handoff problems are worse for me with my iphone than my Samsung phone.??‍♀️

How's that Kool Aid tasting?
I still remember Apple turning my old iPhone 4 into a paperweight overnight with one of their 'updates'. It had a new battery too. I had given it to my father before this happened and it instantly turned him off Apple. I have been scared of updates ever since.

This picture should explain it all. I've had my S22 for about 4 days now, and the battery life is Nexus 5 levels of bad. The internet is saying that the battery life will dramatically / magically improve after a few days of the phone "optimizing and learning your usage" but I don't know how much I believe that? Today I got ~ 10 hours on the phone with 2 hours of SOT. Should I have given it a few more days before I made up my mind? Absolutely. But, do I want to keep trying to fight with it? Not particularly. It's been fun, S22. iPhone 13 Pro here I come, again. It's not that I miss iOS, I really didn't miss it. Between my time with the Pixel 6 and the S22, I now know that I can happily and smoothly switch over to Android and be completely happy with it. I just need to find the supporting hardware to improve my experience and be happier.

Sounds like the massive cooling system needed for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is indicative of a larger issue with the chip.

I hope this can be fixed or alleviated with updates, but for a flagship phone in 2022, I think we all expect and deserve better! The quality of life is better on iOS, and good luck and travels where the grass is greener!

Yeah I'm hoping it's just the fact I called a hospital. I've gotten bad call quality to and from hospitals before.
I worked for three years in a hospital, and the call quality (if you could even get reception) was really bad. People wandered the halls all day recreating the now-famous Verizon ad ;)
I think it's safe to assume the hospital is the culprit!

The new Realme GT2 Pro is cheaper in the UK than the similar S22+. It also has a bigger battery and a bigger and more high resolution screen. The main thing it appears to lack is a telephoto camera. They are promising three years of OS support and four years of security updates.

Speaker on the 13pro or 13promax absolutely superior to the S22U or ZFold2 or Zfold3. It is just much deeper, louder and fills a room.

Yea you will get them through the apple id. Carrying an android phone and not always having my iPad with me that causes me to miss messages. So I keep iMessage off on my iPad as well when using my Android phones.

Not quite as easy but the video and high res pic thing is not exactly a deal breaker anymore. I immediately shared ~500mb video files from my daughter's cheer competition this weekend with other parents and my family this through Samsung quick share. It uploads and then creates a cloud link where they can view or download the video. Sure you probably want to be near wifi or have great cellular data speeds (and a plan without usage based throttling). Also FB messenger, Whatsapp, etc can be used but still not as convenient.

Android auto isn't as pretty and a major overhaul is supposed to be coming but I like it as much as carplay and prefer maps on Android auto.

I'm not a Mac user and don't really use continuity with my iPad as I always have my phone beside me.

The Apple watch is the biggest thing keeping me tied to apple in any way. Even having the Galaxy Watch 4, it's heads and shoulders above anything Android has to offer. The GW4 is a fine watch but I much prefer my Apple watch 7. I'll always have an iPhone even just as a wifi device for that reason.
Wish I had the ability to use android auto. My suv only uses CarPlay...and they have no plans to support androidauto.
