Do you love apple?

I know this is KINDA a bit off topic but does anyone else really WANT to be all apple?

I like their privacy ethics, I like their design and it's almost easier because you have to buy from a limited range of equipment all of which will work in the ecosystem.

I really feel like I want to love their stuff...

but yet windows feels faster and more flexible (if not as pretty), android feels more configurable and now with the s23u I really rate the camera system as much better than the ip14pm.

ARGH!

I think it really depends on the type of user you are. For some people I think 🍎 Apple is perfect. People who don't like to tinker or adjust anything and like for everything to just work and be simple. Those people who keep their devices for a long time and don't care about features Apple is perfect.

I think like a lot of things Apple does there is more marketing than truth. When it comes to the environment they say how green they are yet they manufacture almost everything in China where they run coal plants to get electricity and where companies there don't have to abide by any environmental standards. The companies that operate in China are at least partly state owned and run. Apple says that the aluminum is recycled and there are no harmful chemicals used in manufacturing but who can verify any of it? Also now with Apple silicon there are basically NO user upgradable or repairable parts. That can't be good for the environment.

Privacy is another issue where they talk a good talk but they almost installed a back door into every Apple product under the guise of scanning for CSAM. The fact remains no matter the reason it was a huge privacy and security hole they were going to implement until they had push back. They have been caught with using information on your app preferences and not just Apple apps even when the user asked not to be tracked.

Google isn't great in terms of privacy but at least they are up front about it and most of the code in Android is open source so it can be audited.

To be honest I am rather disappointed with the Windows as a service model Microsoft has implemented. I would much rather it return to the pay for play model they had in the past. I don't like subscription services for everything. Let me buy the software and be done with it. I feel like Windows is turning into Meta and I don't like it.

It seems we are all being monitored all the time no matter what OS you use. Google seems like the most secure. Privacy seems to be more a marketing ploy and illusion these days.

Apple has consistently become more anti consumer and purposely locks their customers into their ecosystem. They could open their ecosystem up to play nice and be more interoperable but instead they take every opportunity to do the opposite. I get that a lot of people feel it makes sense from a business perspective but it is still a crap thing to do and I don't agree it is good for their business model. Exposure into new markets by software penetration could make not locking customers in a wash or they might even gain more customers than they would lose.

So I don't try to like Apple or buy into their ecosystem. But I am not there typical user. I like to tinker. I like to use multiple platforms just to understand how they work and I loath when a company tries to lock me down. There was a time when I hated Microsoft because of there anti competition antics with Linux. Microsoft has come a long way and plays a lot nicer now. Microsoft still has WAY TOO much telemetry and tracking built into Windows but if you know what to do, you can turn it mostly all off.

I don't buy into any corporation or believe that any of them are on my side. I don't believe that I am a Windows guy or an Apple guy, etc. I don't stand up for Apple or Microsoft or Google, etc. I use what I like because I like using it until I don't and I move on. Anyone who claims one way of doing anything is superior is naive at best and simply wants to justify their choices to make them feel superior to others.

Use what you like. Switch things around every so often. Don't get stuck in any "ecosystem" because as soon as you do, you have lost your freedom. Think for yourself and as Apple would say think differently. Everyone has such a group think and wants to be in the "popular" group.

At the end of the day I love my family and pets. I enjoy using tech but I don't love any tech company. I generally deal with their BS so I can use their stuff competently.

If you love Apple and enjoy their products I have nothing to criticize you for. I am just past the days of loving companies.

What I do appreciate is how I am treated by the company when something goes wrong and how easy or difficult they make it for me to buy and use their products. One of the reasons I like Samsung is the fact that I have had good experiences with them when things went south. I had to fight a bit for it but generally they have been fair and compensated me to a point where I am incentivised to buy their products again. As long as they continue to do so I will continue to be their customer. Apple has been similar for me mostly. Google on the other hand has not been so gracious when you have a problem with their hardware or software. So I tend to prefer Apple and Samsung for their customer service. HP has also been good when pressed.

I don't hate any company, in reality, a phone is a phone. Years ago, I was amazed and delighted that I could make and receive a phone call while out and about. Nowadays, the phone bit is probably the least part of the phone used, they have become mini computers. At the moment, my Galaxy S23 Ultra is the best phone I have ever had, but most of all, it's the most fun, it has been a long time since I have been amazed by any phone, I am by this S23 Ultra though. If Apple make a better phone than this I would buy that, I have no loyalty to any company.

I don't understand this "I'm too invested in the Apple eco system to try an Android phone," for heavens sake it's not hard, I'm 65 and my Samsung phone works with my Mac Book Air and iPads, I get my e mails the same, my calendar notifications, the same, messages the same, I use WhatsApp, and so do all the rest of my family who are using iPhones. My whole house including the Hi Fi, TV, lighting, fitness eqt, bluetooth speakers, car etc all work on all these systems, it just all works together. Truthfully? all those that mention "eco system" aren't really as technically gifted as they think they are, I'm an old man, have no idea about Tech, but am typing this on my Mac and know that later, I can read all the answers on my S23 Ultra and later on, repond to those answers on my iPad mini.

Honestly, if a grumpy old man like me, with no patience and little skill with tech can get all this stuff working together without much thought or effort, then anyone can.

Never understood how one can “love” company… i have a feeling that especially in us you guys over use word love, kinda depreciating it (if that makes sense)

yeah it's certainly overused. I think as with so many words in the English language, context is everything. I don't "love" apple in the same way as I love my family, but it's an expression of relatively high (excessive) like v a.n.other company.

This year I can't find anything other than face recognition that my iphone does better than my s23u but yet I keep thinking I should be using my iphone/mac studio etc.

So I suppose what I was trying to get at was a recognition of unnatural almost "brain washed" behaviour at this point.

you know, that's really it for me. The S23u is incredible fun!

I'm normally very iPhone but each year I buy the newest android, tell everyone and they joke I'll enjoy it for a week and then be back to the iphone (which is what happens). This is the first year I've actually been wowed by the new android and keep picking up the s23u rather than the iphone.

you're right, it can definitely be done.

I think people are just expressing how well the apple ecosystem works and the friction involved in moving when you're highly invested in it. Things like, imessage working across all devices even without sims so young children can easily message their parents. Apple pay taken in so many places and so on.

Of course there are alternatives but breaking out of that closed system can feel like a mountain to climb

Familiarity and the marketing that suggests that you just can't get by without iOS is what really gets people, imo. And I've fallen a victim to it many times. The one thing that's helped me this time is that other than the iPhone, I had already branched away from the ecosystem. But even with that, I continue to fight the random urges to go back to iPhone. Halfway through resetting the phone to fix my battery, I almost said screw it and bought a new iPhone. I think you just have to wait out the cravings like ex smokers do.

No we don't overuse that word when it comes to consumer products.

We're not a monolith. We come from many different places and cultures and then we assimilate from those into whatever the prevailing standards for behavior are for the region of the US we live in. So there are discernible differences among how expressive and emotional we can be over anything.

But when it comes to our favorite consumer products, the enthusiasm and customer loyalty is bonkers! We will argue over the best doughnuts, best coffee, best automobile.

Not so much anymore, but once people knew themselves as a "Ford family" or a "Chrysler Family". I was a girl from a Skippy peanut butter family marrying into a Jif family. They were also a Miracle Whip family. Fortunately we all could agree on Ragu spaghetti sauce until about 30 years ago, when everyone got adventurous.

My mom and dad were a Chrysler family until our Dodges kept breaking down, then they became a Subaru couple. I disappointed my dad by marrying a GM family and becoming a GM couple with my husband. But my dad converted me to Subaru by gifting me his car when he got a new one.

We are bonkers! If we don't love our companies, I don't know what love is! 🤣😆

I will be so disappointed if you aren't a Krispy Kreme family, your wonderful musings on this forum will forevermore flash past my eyes like a passengers trains lit windows at night if you are not.

Goodness me, wasn't I dramatic? Time for a cup of tea methinks. Don't know what came over me, I put it down to the provocative "donut" word.

OMG, how did you know? Yes, we are! But our 18 year old daughter is dating a Dunkin' boy. 😭 And now she says she prefers Dunkin, too. We don't know where we went wrong! 😢

Oh I just realized what cup I'm drinking my morning coffee from:

We have a married couple we sometimes travel to places with. They are supper nice and fun and we all have similar interest so everyone gets along great.
But they are Apple super fans. The love love everything about Apple. They have just about every Apple product in their homes from Apple Tv, HomePod, lighting controlled by Siri. They have iMacs, MBA, MBP, iPads, AW, iPhones.

Thye really really LOVE Apple kinda like rabid fans lol

We have seen them in a hotel lobby using their iPhones then switch to an iPad...then reach in a bag and pull out an MBA to reply to emails. Its crazy...we all kid them they are the exact customers Apple envisions.
Thye think its a complement too! :)
They will even not reply to my texts if they show up GREEN! lol

So yes people can actually love a company....

It depends entirely on the people in your circle. It isn't about being technically gifted, it's about people just not giving a damn or being lazy. My whole family (we are all in the U.S.) is way too deep into the ecosystem to ever leave, and why should they? Everything works for them and the whole circle is Apple, their needs are 100% met. No one has ever heard of Signal or Telegram, maybe one or two have heard of WhatsApp. They don't care about tech.

And that's why Apple prints money. People are extremely lazy and Apple takes advantage of it. I guarantee that if Apple goes the shady route and makes MFi USB-C cables for future iPhones and charges $40 for them, people will still buy them in droves. Because they are stupid and lazy and Apple knows it.

The best is the green vs blue bubble nonsense, which again, Apple banks on. They start early when kids get bullied in grade school for being a green bubble. If they cared they could launch an anti-bullying campaign about it, but nope. Only one relative has ever made a comment to me about being a green bubble, she wasn't annoyed just curious why I always switch between blue and green 😂.

My wife and I would have ditched them as soon as this happened. Friendship is worth a lot more then this green/blue nonsense I see people going on about!

It is not always about being lazy, just preference.. when i was young i liked tinkering with tech but now, with 2 children a do prefer not spending any time with setting things, just want to use them;) time is luxury commodity here;)

I agree, I should've also worded my reply that way. People are comfortable and have no desire to switch or explore and ignorance is bliss in many cases. I am not yet a parent but already know when the time comes I will need to always have an iDevice for Find My for security purposes. Heck, we have an AirTag for our dog that we have attached to her harness when we go out. My wife gets heartbroken when we go somewhere without her and the Find My pop-up appears stating we left our dog behind 😂.

On 9 to 5 Mac Galaxy s23u won the drop test. Not by much but I think their scoring was just a little skewed.

Overall both phones need a case. And the reviewer said iPhone had a titanium frame which is not true. It is stainless steel.
I’m pretty sure s23 U would be good surviving a drop. It’s just a bit easier to protect my iPhones from impact from things hitting me when it’s in my pocket.

Today I took my SE3 to work. I realized the new WiFi my husband recently installed gives me signal all the way to the end of our property plus some, so I don’t need a cell signal out there and don’t have to worry about transferring my e Sim from my 14 Pro Max to the SE3.

If I’m going to smash a phone to bits I’d rather it be the significantly cheaper one. But I don’t think that’s going to happen. If my poor Apple Watch still manages to look pristine, the phone should survive just fine.

It was raining then snowing, so it was slippery working out there. The wheels on the cart I was using kept getting stuck in mud so I ended up carrying a lot of things like two sets of enormous bifold doors. I kept worrying my fingers would get caught or that the doors would smack against my pocket and smush my phone.

I put in 3.5 hours and called it a day. Now I have to go check in on my mom. She’s big mad I am not coming over more than once a week.

I remember when I quit my (final non-volunteer job), my coworkers asked me what I would do all day and asked how I would keep from getting bored being a stay at home mom. 🤣😂
