Crikey I forgot to set up visual voicemail. No I don't think there's a way to do that. Unless there's a carrier app perhaps?
There is an app for AT&T but it still separates Phone from VM. I haven't looked into any other launchers, perhaps something will combine the two.
Gah that’s annoying. I was seeing this when I had my ultra on Fi and it was super frustrating when in the Fi it said that visual voicemail could be accessed in the phone app but it wasn’t there. It was a separate app which is so stupid to me. You’d think in 2023 that this basic effing feature would have widespread availability. I mean my goodness the iPhone has had since day effing 1.
You'd think...in 2023 the main function of a phone isn't to function as a phone any longer.
I will say this. Although I do prefer uniformity, I've come to grips with some of the things like this on this phone. For me, if I miss a call and I know I have a voicemail, it's not hard to pull up my app drawer and click on my visual voicemail app. I think these are some of the things that used to turn me off but just don't anymore. As long as the function works that's all I care about.
Agree. Annoying but not a deal breaker.

I'm barely getting 6 hours with my phone :(. The quick battery drain started about a week before I put my SIM into the S23U. I have no idea what's going on.

Did you use smart switch? I was also disappointed with my battery. Did a factory reset and wow it's perfect now.

I did not! I would hate to favorite reset it, but I might have to.
I was SUPER pissed when I had to factory reset mine, to the point where I almost said **** it and went back to iPhone. But luckily after a couple hours of annoyance, it's in great shape. Is there a certain app or process that's eating a lot of battery for you?

Definitely not normal unless you are playing South Park game like me for hours. Lol

Smart switch and other back up and restore methods are convenient but for some reason generally cause problems on a new Android phone.

I would check battery and see what apps might be going rogue.

Maybe an update was slightly corrupted.

Before resetting the phone you can go into recovery after power down by using power button and volume simultaneously and once you see the splash screen just keep the volume up pressed. Once in the recovery menu use volume to select Cache. Clear the cache or delete it. Then reboot the phone. Turn off ram plus. Run the phone optimization in battery settings and see if all that makes any difference.

Also if you see an app like OneUI home using more than fraction of a percentage of battery something isn't right. Uninstall any app using battery and if you can live without it for a few hours test to see if battery improves without it. Then you can decide to install it again but at least you will know if it is responsible for your issues.

Sometimes a corrupted update can cause problems. Try to reset the phone if all else fails. Good luck.

SOT should be between 8-11 hours depending on how you use the phone.

Is there an easy way to combine the Phone app with the Visual Voicemail app? More times than not with Android phones I've had to settle on two icons for the Phone and Voicemail and it is annoying. Is there anything like how iOS does it where the Phone "menu" includes a tab for voice mail?
I prefer its a separate app as most of the time for me its not even an option to use it.

On my iPhone its a dead tab that really should toggle off if not used or available

I was surprised when I checked how few international carriers support it, but almost all US, Canada and 3 out of 4 in AUS do, even UK only 3 out of nearly 20 are supported

I’ve seen and used enough of the S23+ to be able to say it can replace my iPhone. BlueBubbles is a fantastic app, better than AirMessage and works with Android Auto! I need to set up private API which is a chore on PC / virtual Mac, in order to get all of the iMessage features and FaceTime notifications. Currently using my 14 PM again while I wait to pick up my dad’s old MBA in a week or two so that I can use that as the BlueBubbles server.

Very pleasantly surprised overall with the S23+.

Curious what the masses here use when it comes to things like setting a timers, reminders, etc. Obviously with Apple it was easy with Siri and I currently use Google Assistant. Wondering if I should even dive into Bixby. I'm not a big routines guy and I currently have Bixby completely disabled.

Google Assistant would be sufficient for those things. Bixby only has the advantage if you want an assistant that control of the hardware

Sold my S23 ultra. Back to V60, not that this post will matter to anyone... Final reason was terrible sound quality in speakers, Bluetooth streaming and chromecast streaming. I taught that chromecast streaming gives the login credentials to the sound system digital audio processor, but somehow the S23 ultra was able to change my sound when enabling or disabling dolby atmos which is weird because I was streaming via chromecast. Or maybe my sound system is looking for a specific chromecast Hi-fi settings which in s23 ultra HD audio is disabled and I couldn't enable it. I'm not missing anything compared to my 3 years old v60. I'm used back to 60hz. Now regarding the Bluetooth streaming I have an 8k euro Hi-fi car audio system with very nice speakers and bass and the S23 ultra is a bad joke regarding sound quality. My LG V60 via Bluetooth streaming is almost there to a Hi-fi experience. Yes I can put flacs on my usb stock and play them with the car DSP, but now everything is encrypted and you need to pay a lot for good flacs. Anyways I can just insert my LG V60 3.5mm jack to the auz port and the audio quality becomes HEAVEN.
Regarding the speakers sound of the S23 ultra I'll stick to my first impression that I've shared here. Speakers are tuned like an 70s old TV broadcasting NASA landing on the moon or the inventions of new rockets from the 70s. That may sound nice for the US market, but for the rest of the world is trash. Whoever says s23 speakers are top notch, they never ever heard in the entire life HOW GOOD SOUND QUALITY MUSIC SOUNDS.
Main and selfie cameras are better on the LG v60 in any scenarios. Ultrawide is back and forth, but s23 has autofocus and macro. Display HDR10+ is much better on the V60, brightness 600nits of lg poled = equals 1750 nits of AMOLED. Battery life is also better on the V60, although it is 60Hz panel. So, because I was spoiled 3 years with the V60 and I'm expecting something better, I cannot eat the S23 ultra marketing.
You do and believe what you want.
Stay safe and enjoy your tanks. My next phone probably will be a rounded corner phablet like s24+. It's not about money, I paid around 300 euro just for 2 cases, one charger and 2 glass protectors and this is a good example that I tried to LOVE the S23 Ultra. It's just love that it doesn't work, or like an relationship with someone new but thinking of your last love. I'm still waiting for a WORTHY replacement of my LG V60 ThinQ. Enjoy your beasts, but just to know something, there was a beast 3 years ago and you all MISSED it.

Why the last line? What did we miss?

I am sorry that the s23 ultra didn't work out for you. No one on this particular thread says that the only good phone is a Samsung s23 series? We all understand that owning a phone is a subjective experience and everyone values things that are different from one another.

What I have never understood is that you create a thread about a specific device to talk about that device (or line of devices) in this case. Yet at some point people come around and start talking about another device and why it is better? We are not trying to figure out what is better. We are simply taking the rollercoaster ride of experiences together and gaining knowledge from each other. Understanding how each other uses their phones and how they do so can help us learn.

For example I follow a thread on the iPhone 14 Pro Max and I don't go on that thread and rip on the people there and tell them why the s23 ultra is superior. I don't talk about it at all. I talk about my iPhone 13 Pro Max that I had. There is a thread for M2 MBA and I also follow threads on the M1/2 MBP but I don't talk about my MBA on the MBP thread unless a specific question is asked and I am not trying to convince anyone that what I own is better. I just don't understand this mentality. If you like something and chose it then you should be confident in your decision and don't need to prove to anyone else anything and certainly don't need to tell people why your device is better.

There are times where you will talk about why you think your device is better in context of other devices in a situation but it is not to put down anyone else but to show how in a specific use case that a particular device can be better and here is why. But it is done in a thread that has to do with the device I am taking about.

So you like your LG V6O and that is fantastic. Why not just make a thread on this forum about the LG V60? You could talk about all of the things that are great about it and why after 3 years it is still relevant. You could compare it to the s23 ultra and any other phone you want. I am sure that there must be other LG V6O owners out there?

Personally there isn't any 3 year old phone I would use. I had an iPhone 11 Pro Max and it is still a great phone. But the lack of 5g, 60hz screen would bother me but at least Apple keeps it updated. Can you tell us is your LG getting software support? Does it have any OS upgrades left? What version of Android is it using? Is it getting regular monthly security patches?

A phone is more than a couple of features. It is an amalgam of hardware and software. If any link in the chain is not good the entire thing is not good. Sure you can use your phone without software support for probably years but it carries it's own set of limitations and problems that get worse over time.

The s23 series in general and the ultra specifically have an amalgam of hardware and software that is not often found on any phone.

No, I have not missed anything. I never particularly liked LG phones and mostly it was the terrible versions of Android they had, the lack of software support and updates and now the fact they are no longer a major alternative. It is sad to me because I like competition and hate when a company just gives up and stops making something.

LG could still come back and start making phones again. I wish they would because the more competition the better. They just needed to do what Samsung has done with OneUI and offer longer OS support. They have made some pretty good phones over the years and make decent OLED panels.

So here is to LG coming back into the smartphone market some day.

I hope you were able to recoup your initial investment on your s23 ultra even though you act as though money is not an issue.

I hope you find what you are looking for some day but if it hinges on 3.5mm headphone jack and being a flagship phone I don't know if that time is coming again?

I love how all of your photos say LG V60 thinQ.

Since photography seems to be important to you maybe you should consider a Pixel phone if it is supported in your country? The new Pixel 8 Pro is looking to be pretty sweet. Should tick a lot of the boxes for you but sadly no headphone jack. I like the speakers and camera on my Pixel 7 Pro but I also like them on the s23u so you might not agree but Pixel phones have consistently been good with camera's?

My first ever phone was the LG Optimus on Virgin Mobile. I bricked that thing so many times. Good ole rooting and custom ROM days.

Then tried the LG V30 many years later and that was one of the worst phones I've ever owned.

Now that I read that post, it's going to be tough to enjoy this phone knowing that I could have a 3 year old LG phone.

Yeah I had a few LG phones back in the "days" and they always had a super terrible locked bootloader. They locked those phones so tight. And if you tried rooting or installing custom roms you would almost certainly brick the phone.

I just hated the version of Android or skin they used. If they would have been more friendly to the developer community it probably would have improved their phones.

In fairness Samsung has become rather locked down with Knox but with all the hacking and security issues these days I don't mind it. Completely opposite approach of the Pixel. You can still unlock the bootloader on a Pixel and it won't void the warranty.

But hey, I am not knocking the gentleman with the LG V60 thinQ for liking his device at all. I think it is good to keep your phone as long as you are comfortable doing so. I just think the attitude that it is better than the s23u is what I don't understand. I could argue it in length because on face value it is a laughable claim but I am not trying to prove anything or make someone feel bad about what they own. If you like a particular device, who am I to tell you that you are wrong. Rock that thing as long as you can!

Heck, I hope I can keep my S23U for at least 3 years. Knowing the kind of user I am I don't know if I will but it is nice when a phone performs well over a long period of time. I bet 6g will be a thing in 3 to five years from now. 😂 Lol

Sincere question, with all of the road noise, engine noise, other noise, how can you enjoy and distinguish lossless / high quality audio? I really couldn't care less about lossless quality audio while in my car.

I also don't use my phone as a portable speaker or cast to my home audio system, and don't expect "top notch" quality.

Us in the U.S. settling for 70s style speakers, what does that even mean? 😂😂😂. S**t's about to get political. 😂

If you haven't tried Niagra Launcher Pro, I highly recommend it!
Haven't tried any launchers with my Fold, but I recently got into using Wallpaper Engine... haven't gotten into the battery performance with using it. But its dope having video wallpaper on the HomeScreen.

Seems like you value audio more than most so in that regard LG makes sense. They've always had good audio.

I know what you mean about cameras. I think all modern smartphone cameras are ruined by their AI postprocessing. Off colors, over sharpened, shadow phobic, and always on the brink of that HDR look. I'd recommend Sony phones for cameras, the ONLY brand that I think takes decent photos.

Still, an S23+ is on my list for my next phone. So glad they've got a decent SoC. I was thinking about the Pixel until I learnt you STILL can't get rid of the awful gesture control bar at the bottom of the screen. Really annoyed me on my Pixel 3 and can't believe they still have it on the 7.

The s23 plus is a really nice phone but the full hd on a $1000 phone kills it for me.

The Pixel 7 Pro is a better phone in every way but the processor.

If my choice was s23+ or Pixel 7 Pro it would be the Pro all the way. Yes the bar is there but it is small and you just forget about it most of the time. To have a better camera system, better screen and better AI features makes it a win.

I think I would choose the s23 ultra or Pixel 7 Pro but that is just me. The size of the s23 plus is just about perfect. The speakers are good and the battery is good. I just can't believe Samsung doesn't put a quad hd display.

I think the regular s23 is actually probably the best value of the flagship phones and the battery is bigger and as long as you can get the 256gb model has all the speed of the other more expensive models. With the smaller display the full hd still looks good. I think it is regular s23 or ultra.
