One thing about Android compared to iOS that really irkes me is OS updates.

On iOS, when Apple releases and OS update, anyone can immediately go and download it. But on Android, you have various carrier reviews and then rolling rollouts. I dunno why Samsung can't take control of this like Apple does. It's like Apple is the Alpha Male that everyone listens to, and Samsung is the average dude who people sometimes listen to.

For example, the May update is out now for Samsung, and some people got it, and some people don't. I am on AT&T and some AT&T locked versions are getting it, but my unlocked S23U hasn't gotten it yet.

It should be available for everyone at the same time.
I totally agree. I have an unlocked device, unbranded, so I get the updates immediately, as released in my country. The iPhone way is definitely better though. This is a big plus for iOS, definitely.

One thing that I do think offsets that issue a little bit is that stock apps actually get updated independently instead of waiting for an OS update like you do on Apple.
Yes I agree 100% with that.

I never understood why Apple didn't have their apps separate in the App store to just get updates regularly instead of wrapping them in with OS updates.

Actually you do get updates for apps independent of OS updates in the Apple app store. You just have to manually check. But the apps get updated independently of OS updates.

It has been that way for a long time?

My bad I just reread stock apps. Not 100% sure on that so I could be wrong. Unfortunately I can't delete my post.

Suffering from a bit of COVID brain. Lol

We're talking any stock apps like iMessage, Notes, Maps, etc

Yes this is a very important point that many fail to note and a bigger plus for Samsung than just avoiding the self inflicted anxiety of update watching

I think we also seem to loose the fact that many of these security updates are boffin/nerdy type exploits that are being plugged

It was reasonably true until recently that most of these fixes were for exploits not found in real use however IOS has had to fix exploits that were being used IRL

Only last week Apple send out an emergency fix that was a complete shambles and gave erroneous failure messages

Classic proof that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the wall LOL

Can't believe it but I just did the math and I'm nearing 3 months on this phone, the longest I've been on Android in almost 10 years. Crazy! I still get Apple cravings a lot though and that really sucks since I'm so happy with the switch. But I'm guessing I'll get over those at some point.

You've got past the first month that's the hardest bit IMO

Heck, it's been over 3 years since I left the iPhone and switched to Android... but I still get an itch to try the iPhone again. I believe that's human nature to have a sense of curiosity of what you had in the past. And being apart of a Apple dedicated website doesn't help at all regardless of being in this alternative section.

I personally value what features I have with Android (Sound Assistant, multitasking and S-Pen) and from that I realize why I no longer have an iPhone.

I don't know what decision I would make if that day comes where I have to choose but I'm thinking most likely it would be Android ...

I saw this yesterday in the future update for HDR fix

I love love the camera on the S23U. Best zoom on a smartphone. But I still get some blur compared to my P7P or 14PM.
Agreed it would be a hard choice. For sure!

3 months. A blink of an eye.

If you get Apple cravings may I ask what those cravings are?

I have had Android and iOS phones and alternated between the two for a period of time.

However once I decided to stay on one platform I may have missed one side for a month and then never worried about it.

If after 6 months or so and you are still having "cravings" for Apple then I would say that there is something that you really miss.

Of course being on a singular platform for 10 years and then switching is not easy I would imagine and it could be that you simply miss the familiarity of using iOS for so long.

I mean at some point you are either going to let go and move on or you are going to move back to iPhone. There is no wrong answer.

There are a lot of people who swear by the Apple ecosystem and feel it is simply superior to anything Android and PC have to offer and that alone is enough of a reason to keep them using iPhone. If you are in that category then it may be best to get a Pixel 7 or upcoming Pixel 8 - not 8 Pro or s23 ultra and have your iPhone as your main phone and alternate with a Android phone for fun every so often. Like maybe get the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max and have a Pixel 7a or Pixel 8. That way you have the best of both worlds without breaking the bank. I did that for a while until I decided to go all in on Android.

I was always an Android user and around the iPhone x and 11 series made the switch to iOS. For me I made a clean break and didn't look back. At the time there were a lot of issues with Android and iOS seemed to fix a lot of them. There were some things that annoyed me about iOS at the time like lack of app drawer and navigation gestures ( which still drive me nuts ) but generally I felt the switch was beneficial and didn't really look back until end of last year when iOS 16 ruined my experience.

So I can understand in reverse what it is like to use mostly one platform (at least with phones) for a long time and switch. It can be a really big change but in my opinion if there are more advantages overall when making the switch even if you are uncomfortable for a period of time it is worth it BUT you always have the option to change your mind if the equation ever changes for you.

It seems to me people get stuck and if they make a big change feel the need to stick with it no matter what but it is always up to you at any time to change your mind.

Like iOS or Android or both and don't let other people tell you what is best for you. Only you know that. If you are always craving something even after a considerable time then that might be telling you something?

I say 6 months should be a long enough time. You know about the time the new iPhones are released. If you are still craving by then it might be time to consider a switch. Lol

I saw a mock up of the new iPhone 15 and the thing that stood out to me was the rounded corners. After using the s23u I don't know if I could go back to rounded corners. I really like the utilization of screen with the squared corners. However the mock up had completely uniform bezels and they were very slim. One thing that does bother me about the s23 ultra is the larger chin and bezels at the top of the display. I would love if the bezels were uniform around the entire device and as slim as the sides.

How is everyone finding the shutter lag? Especially interested in the views of people who also have tried or have an iPhone 14 Pro.

Currently very tempted to get a S23 Ultra!

Haha well that's the funny thing, it's never anything specific. It's more like a tobacco craving after you quit smoking. It's not like you miss the feeling of burning your lungs and slowly killing yourself, but it's just random thoughts that go through your head.
