Ugh! Who knew it would be this hard picking a phone!:p
Still leaning towards the S23 ultra.
Is there an app similar to face time? My GF and I use it regular to "talk" I know FB messenger can be used, is it about the best I can do?

Is rooting still a thing with androids?
Rooting is still a thing. XDA forums is the place to get more information on rooting.

However, the reasons people used to root(myself included) just don't apply as much today. Generally rooting was done for more control and to add custom ROM that added features Android didn't have. Now most modern Android phones have all the features built in to the OS that we used to root and install custom ROM for.

Generally it is a lot more difficult to root a Samsung device than say a Pixel. It can be done but it is a hassle and you lose a lot of functionality. On top of that it is a security risk. There is little you will benefit from rooting but risking your security is a higher likelihood.

Personally I would never root a Samsung phone. The minute you do, you have lost your warranty and there is no way to get it back. It triggers Knox which can't be reset or untriggered.

If rooting is something you are interested in then a Pixel would be the best choice because you won't lose warranty and Google makes it easy to reflash the phone with stock firmware at any point.

Curious what you all use for your primary news app. I do like Google news but I just noticed that they're really lacking when it comes to alerts for breaking news. I currently use the CNN app but for personal reasons after last night, I am boycotting them. Not looking for an app that gives me constant alerts of every little news story but just enough breaking news alerts would be nice.
Google News. I paid for Apple news subscription for a while until I realized there was a lot of content I was still locked out of and a lot of content I could just read for free without it.

Google News isn't perfect and there is some content you need a subscription for but it seems to do a good job of aggregation of news.

I just get so much junk notifications from Google News. Great example, they just sent me a breakdown of the Patriots schedule. I'm a Packers fan and even have that in my topics to follow on Google. I can't think of one time I've googled anything related to the Patriots.

Yeah that would be annoying!

I'm curious on the app if you check the battery / background usage limits to see if it's deep sleeping or sleeping category..you can designate it to not sleep ..

I don't use Google pay but I can't see anything being better than my Apple Pay it at least I don't know better haha

I mostly get notifications timely and on par with iOS but I've caught a few times on standby where they do delay for me too ..

Yes I have the sleep option turned off in battery settings.

I was originally going to setup Samsung Pay instead of Android Pay, but the issue is SP isn't supported in most apps like AP is. For example, I use the Starbucks and Chick Fil A Apps, and neither supports SP.

To be honest, I am not sure really if there is any advantage to one over the other. Apple Pay is still the best.

I figured you didn't have it sleep mode .. I've seen a few suggestions to turn off adaptive battery and switch profile to light with some stating successfully receiving all notifications..I might try it one day for testing purposes..

You really have no choice since SP does not work with your apps .. I think the only difference with SP other than it works on Samsung phones only is that it also supports MST along with NFC for payments but I believe most payments now go through NFC anyway

To the best of my knowledge, Samsung stopped using MST it it’s phones and watches for many years now.

Wow that is an amazing spread! We’re having sushi tomorrow.

Yes Happy Mothers Day to any and all moms out there!

We celebrated with my mom yesterday and today I got chocolate chip cookies baked in my honor and dropped off at the mall with the girls so I could get some new clothes to fit me after eating those cookies. 🤣 I picked out a coral dress to match the Pixel 7a I ordered and some light pink summer clothes to match my S23 Ultra. 😂

We’re now picking up a barbecue feast. It’s a madhouse here at the restaurant. I haven’t eaten out at restaurants on Mother’s Day in years for that reason. I can’t handle the crowds. I’m glad we’re taking out. Then going to go home and feast and watch Ted Lasso!

Thank you. We’re still waiting. So we went out for a little drive. I’m in the area where I briefly lived when I was a baby and I found the old firehouse my mom took me to because I was afraid of sirens. She showed me the fire trucks and the firemen gave me a tour and I was excited about sirens after that because I finally knew what was making the noise.

Somewhere nearby is our apartment but I wouldn’t know which one it was. I do remember living there but obviously there would be limits to what a toddler would be able to retain. I lived there mostly with just my mom. My dad was deployed during our time there and when he came back from Vietnam, we got the house that I am going to have to clean out and sell in the next few months.

And I saw that the Chuck E Cheese where my first college boyfriend took me for our first ever date almost 40 years ago is STILL there. Goodness that was a shock! I assumed it was torn down decades ago. Unfortunately the places my husband and I went for our first few dates were torn down years ago and new businesses are there now.

We’re pretty far from our current home. All the good barbecue places near our house went out of business. A couple times a year we make the long ride out here for BBQ. Ah, our food is ready! Yay!

Did anyone here have the S21 ultra on AT&T? If yes, did you experience the issue of texts not sending and pictures not downloading when using Google or Samsung messages? I ask because a friend is debating between the S23 Ultra and iPhone 14 pro max. She is tired of missing texts on her S21U and doesn't want to go through it again if she gets the S23 Ultra. Anyone here experience any messaging issues on ATT while using the S23U? She prefers the S23U if the messaging issue isn't happening.

I'll say this, I had the S21 Ultra on T-Mobile and I had that issue, and it was one of the primary reasons for moving back to iOS. I've had the S23 Ultra for over 3 months and had that issue happen only once and I think I was in a bad reception area. Otherwise, flawless.

I haven’t had that issue yet, but I’m only texting to my husband and on rare occasions, sharing photos to him and other immediate family members. When I was getting texts from a wider group on an S9+ I had no missing texts but my husband did.

That is gorgeous! I haz an envy. My dad loved taking care of his cars like that. I used to watch and assist. Eventually our street got a bit dangerous (it was a dead end street that became a through street with too much traffic) to work in and we didn’t have a driveway or carport. But Dad never had a set of wheels like that! Wowza!

My son had to miss his soccer pictures unfortunately so I'm going to be using this phone to try to take professional looking shots next week. I'm going to shoot in different modes to try to see which come out the best. And then hoping they don't look pixelated when I print out 8x10's. Should be interesting!
