Rooting is still a thing. XDA forums is the place to get more information on rooting.Ugh! Who knew it would be this hard picking a phone!
Still leaning towards the S23 ultra.
Is there an app similar to face time? My GF and I use it regular to "talk" I know FB messenger can be used, is it about the best I can do?
Is rooting still a thing with androids?
However, the reasons people used to root(myself included) just don't apply as much today. Generally rooting was done for more control and to add custom ROM that added features Android didn't have. Now most modern Android phones have all the features built in to the OS that we used to root and install custom ROM for.
Generally it is a lot more difficult to root a Samsung device than say a Pixel. It can be done but it is a hassle and you lose a lot of functionality. On top of that it is a security risk. There is little you will benefit from rooting but risking your security is a higher likelihood.
Personally I would never root a Samsung phone. The minute you do, you have lost your warranty and there is no way to get it back. It triggers Knox which can't be reset or untriggered.
If rooting is something you are interested in then a Pixel would be the best choice because you won't lose warranty and Google makes it easy to reflash the phone with stock firmware at any point.
