TMSC fabbed 8gen2 will have CPU efficiency rivaling A15, and GPU efficiency better than A16. The one who is slacking actually is Apple, which is why they use A15 on the iPhone 14. A16 offers almost no improvement (and sometimes worse) than A15 in efficiency.

But on battery life they are better. My iPhone 14 Pro Max out lasts my S22 Ultra unfortunately. Its not the worse battery life (note 20 ultra was far worse for me) I'd just like to see battery life around the same as the 13 Pro Max, or at least close too it.

The S22 Ultra has really bad efficiency because it used either the 8gen1 or the Exynos 2200, and both were fabbed by Samsung, which is really bad. They're at least 3 to 4 gen behind Apple in terms of efficiency.

That is changing thanks to TMSC. 8+gen1 made a jump, making it only 1 or 2 gen behind Apple interns if efficiency. TMSC fabbed 8gen2 made another leap forward, pretty much neck in neck with the A15 in efficiency, and its GPU actually is showing better efficiency than the A16. Apple really needs 3nm if they still want to lead the efficiency race.

yeah very good point indeed. Let's hope it's consistent across the production and not a matter of luck of the draw... because I WILL end up with the rubbish one, it's inevitable.

must admit I've never ordered samsung day 1 only ever apple... so I don't know! be nice if the order process goes live after the event but I'm sure someone will come along to tell us

I wasn't going to order but made the mistake of tuning into unpacked. Watching now and impressed with the camera improvements they are touting. Curious if the shutter lag is reduced from previous Galaxy devices. That's my biggest complaint. Now to decide which device to trade in 😂
