Samsung is confirming the stereotype that the value drops faster than an Apple device. They believe it too!

Hmmm the lime color is throwing a wrench in my plan of just going with the white version. Need to see some videos of it

Yeah this really is a bummer. I was thinking $900 minimum for iPhone 14 Pro Max. I suppose I could still get the Ultra and then just sell my iPhone on Swappa instead, but trade ins are so much easier.

Umm, I doubt Samsung was gonna give out that much for the iPhone (maybe the 22U or Fold4).

But I am surprised how Samsung is going about the trade in process... as others have noted, they are encouraging consumers to go through carriers.

They can keep these for the pathetic trade in values. I'll keep my S22 Ultra.

This was my thinking as well. I really thought I would be upgrading my S22 Ultra as in the past Samsung has offered very compelling trade in values. This time it's just Meh.

I wanted to upgrade my iPhone 13 mini in September because it was too small for me. But after seeing prices I just didn't see the value in an iPhone 14. I opted to get a regular iPhone 13 and sell off the mini.

I think I might be done with chasing the latest and greatest smartphone. The mid-rangers are adequate for my needs.

These trade in deals are laughable. You get a credit but not $50 off? WTF?

I would have to pay $825 plus tax to get the ultra.

The trade in value is the same as my s20FE that was two years old vs. my s22 plus which is a year old. Same value? Are they crazy?

I was expecting at least $500.

I was really hoping to get the ultra this year but I guess I am not getting anything.

They have always had better trade in value in the past plus a free watch or buds and this year it is a credit for $150? I can't get a watch or decent buds without spending even more.

Hard pass.

Ok so I had blue in my cart but literally killed it with fire via Duck Duck Go flame button. Lol.

Redid it in lavender. It looks like the lime and blue have silver rails. I want a little bit of color on the rails. But I was super torn among blue, lime and lavender and the cream color.

In the end it was the color of the cupcakes we got that sold me.

A4F57D37-FB59-40D5-9395-E34744FAFFCA.jpeg

This color has been showing up a lot in my life recently so I figured it was a sign to go for it. Sort of pink. Sort of purple. Sort of weird.

I have been known to cancel and redo preorders as much as four or five times though so don’t think this is set in stone. 🤣

But it is likely because as much as I love sky blue, my first sky blue car was a lemon. My Sierra Blue iPhone made me really sick and it had a defective camera. My Blue Note 7 was…a Note 7 and we all know how that story ended.

Lime green is a super fun color but I’m worried I’ll get burnout on it like I did with past bold color choices.

Red tempted me a tiny bit but that’s still not the red I was hoping for. It looks a lot like last years. It may well be the same. I don’t know.

Lime would have been my choice. Unfortunately I just can't afford to buy a new Samsung Galaxy Ultra and if I tried to go cheaper the plus is still $625 with my trade in. I haven't gotten the $50 off email either. I mean I might be able to get the regular s23 if I got the $50 off but the trade in value for my perfect condition s22 plus is the same as when I traded in my s20FE and that was 2 years old and not an S20 plus??

If Samsung thought sales were bad last year they have a surprise coming.

Maybe during the summer sales things might change but the pre-order is rather disappointing.

I also got zero extra bonus for reserving it. Isn't that supposed to appear when you're logged in?
Mine often didn’t and didn’t appear this time. Sometimes you get something in an email much later. Honestly I don’t remember how it worked, like if people got compensated later or something.

It was $50 and I didn’t really want anything from the store anyway. They weren’t going to reduce the price of the phone itself.

(At this point it’s like the early 1970’s version of Wheel of Fortune. Nobody younger than me is going to remember this, but once upon a time contestants had to spend all their prize money on merchandise donated by sponsors. So people would just shop from whatever was up on the stage. And usually at the end there was this cheesy ceramic dog statue they could buy with whatever odd amount they had left. It was sort of like a souvenir. I wonder how many of those statues ended up in estate and yard sales over the decades.)

Anyway, I really wanted the clear case with the ring on it but they showed the photo of the regular s23 while saying it was for the Ultra. I didn’t want to take a chance on trusting them that it really was for the Ultra. So I got the silicone case with the handle on it and I got a couple of other silicone cases.

I almost used my 100 instant credit on the Samsung Care+ but I’ve read some stories that some people had a hard time getting service through that. I think we do have carrier insurance anyway. If not, there’s always duct tape. 😜

The trade in values are what made it so hard to resist taking the plunge for incremental upgrades every year. They are pushing you to do it thru the carriers for monthly bill credits. I only do unlocked devices so that option is a no go for me. Definitely giving me reason for pause.
I hate the monthly bill credits to be honest. It is just another way a carrier keeps a customer on leash so to speak.

I also only do unlocked phones. .....

I hope you enjoy your s23 ultra! I think the lavender color is nice.

I got a $150 instant credit. I thought the $50 was a discount off the price which would have made the terrible trade in value just a little better.

The crazy thing is during last year's summer sale at first they offered me $425 for my s20FE! I waited too long and it went down to $375. If I get the ultra I get $375 for my s22 plus and if I get the plus they are giving $350 for my Plus. This is less than what they gave me for a two year old FE, not a regular s20 and not an s20 plus.

I really don't understand how they are trying to incentive people to buy a new model when they are giving lower than market value. Traditionally Samsung gives you better than market value on pre order trade in?

I guess I will have to live vicariously through you.

If you all wait, things will start to work properly. The $50 credits for reserving early will start being mailed out. Those things are always sent out late. In past years it was a problem because the shipping dates did slip fast on some models.

In a few months there may very well be a fire sale of sorts. That’s how my husband got his 256 GB Burgundy Ultra for under $200 with a trade in of his s21 Ultra. He got offered around $1000 for the S21 Ultra.

I actually kind of want to send his in as my trade and keep my 512 GB green around. But he doesn’t want to do that. He’s all set up on his Burgundy one. I think that’s silly because he can Smart Switch everything over when I wipe it.

I would have liked to have gotten the 1 TB model because I really did want to keep this thing a few years. But for the life of me I couldn’t get the trade in to apply to bring down the cost of the 1 TB model. They were pulling games there with the store on app and on web to pretty much force all of us to 512 GB. I’d be shocked if they even made many of the other sizes. Edit: oh never mind I’m just operating under migraine brain. The 1 TB model price shown was already after trade in applied. They don’t show you right off the bat the thing is over $1600. Nah I’m not spending $1119 on this. I could. But I won’t. Ouch. It will only be worth $500 next year, maybe. I can’t justify losing that much money. I try to keep these upgrades around 300-400. I usually make out better than that.

I hope my posts are making sense. I watched the event on my iPhone and have been on my iPhone to post while I shopped on my Samsung. I’ve got a migraine from using this iPhone. 😖😵

That’s why I’m fine with throwing my money at Samsung. At least they aren’t making me sick. I’m going to switch to my Ultra now…

Well I’ve pre ordered s23 ultra in cream 512GB

Not expecting to keep it but will enjoy checking it out
I was going to pre-order but same battery life as my S22 Ultra just seems pointless. They could have at least given a couple of hours more.
