I was going to pre-order but same battery life as my S22 Ultra just seems pointless. They could have at least given a couple of hours more.

The fact they said lasts more than a day says to me maybe not a big jump as if there was they would have put up some numbers

Will test it though

I also got zero extra bonus for reserving it. Isn't that supposed to appear when you're logged in?
You get a credit applied during checkout. It is not a discount.

If I got the s23+ or Ultra I would have received a $150 credit I could use to buy something in the Samsung store during checkout. If I got the regular s23 it was $100 credit.

I would have had to pay close to $550 for the regular s23 with tax. Close to $750 for the plus and around $925-950 for the Ultra.

The 8 gen 2 if it is produced on the TSMC node would have given probably around 20% better battery life. So you would certainly see a difference. Just not sure it is worth the crazy prices with poor trade in value this year?

If you get 6 SOT you might get 7 to 7.5 hours SOT this model. I am guessing.

Ah ok, I'm going to go back and skim through the event. To be fair I wasn't watching it fully because the preorders had opened and I was looking at the Samsung page.

Trade in is £620 for my S22 Ultra, plus double the storage upgrade pre-order offer from 256 to 512GB.

Yeah this really is a bummer. I was thinking $900 minimum for iPhone 14 Pro Max. I suppose I could still get the Ultra and then just sell my iPhone on Swappa instead, but trade ins are so much easier.
Selling your iPhone on Swappa would be a good option but the economy sucks and you have to compete with other sellers.

My s22 plus is going for a minimum of $425 and the Ultra is a minimum of $620. Both of these values are better than Samsung trade which is very different than years past where Samsung would pay you more for your trade in than you could sell it on sites like Swappa. I expect poor trade in value from Apple but not Samsung, specially on pre order.

The problem with Swappa is PayPal fees and you have to pay shipping so for my plus it would be a wash. Your IPhone should fare better!

So how much will you have to pay? That is the real question.

If you were going to buy a new primary phone this year then it might be worth it?

For me, I just got a Pixel 7 Pro and it is my primary phone. The Samsung would have been a back up and if I really liked it might have overtaken my Pixel 7 Pro but I was hoping to spend at most $600 for the Ultra and I would have had to spend much more so it is a no go for me.

As another poster said maybe their will be a better sale later.

At this point I might just wait for the Pixel 8 Pro because I already have a $98 credit in the Google store. Add my trade in value on my 7 Pro and I doubt it will cost me $400 so I think I will wait and see for now.

My s22 plus is not obsolete yet. Lol

I think the problem is we (as Samsung users) are conditioned to see crazy trade in deals and when its not offered, we now questioned if the phone is worth it.

But when you think of how much we as consumers use smartphones during the duration of ownership... I'd say it becomes worth it. However, I think Samsung is misjudging their offering this year. 13 Pro vs 14 Pro... as much as critics fault Apple on the Dynamic Island, at least you can see some valid differences between the two.

S22U vs S23U... what will average Joe notice? I know there's going to be some camera comparisons coming out to portray how much the camera has improved... but nowadays smartphone camera improvements are very subjective. And as far as I know there's not any OneUI 5.1 features tied to S23U... unless someone can inform on this.

I would have to pay £629, so around half the cost.

I agree with you.

The thing is that Samsung has a sort of implied, wink, wink, to repeat Samsung buyers. We have been conditioned to get a great deal when we upgrade through Samsung. Take that away and the incentive to get a new phone is a LOT less when you have a year or two old Samsung. It feels like throwing your money away this year.

Also it seriously makes Apple more competitive when the pricing advantage of Android drops off.

The only real upgrade is the camera on the ultra only and the processor. Ram is the same. So I think that is a bit of a hard sell. The processor is a lot better this year but unless you have a regular s22 battery life and performance is still good enough.

It kind of boggles the mind when Samsung didn't sell the s series as much as they wanted last year and instead of incentive their loyal customers they kind of decided to give them a crappy deal?

I don't know but if I were Samsung I would take a hit on profits on pre orders at least to sell as many units as I could and get word of mouth and hype going for their phones. This would boost their sales.

What they have done instead seems like a recipe for failure? But I am no marketing expert so it is just my opinion.

Has anyone in the UK managed to get Samsung finance to work? Just sits on checking details forever. Seems to not be working? But I’d really like the 0% finance rather than buying outright

Not bad.

If it is the only phone you buy this year it is worth it. Here in the states you aren't even getting half off and that is with an Ultra trade in.

So you in the UK are getting a better deal!

If I were in your shoes and it was going to be my primary device I might go for it!

If you do you have to tell us your impressions and what color you choose. Plus you would get a Snapdragon vs exynos right? That would be a good upgrade!

Yea half, plus we get Disney+ free for 6 months and the free storage upgrade (from 256 to 512GB) for free. Yea we go from Exynos here in the UK to the Snapdragon just like everyone else now. Im assuming that’s where we will notice the battery life difference??

Google fi is giving half off the Ultra if you get their service and a trade in deal which would make an Ultra cost $440 after trade in credit if you have an s22 plus like me. I would imagine it would be even cheaper if you have an Ultra. Plus you get the same storage upgrade.

Not bad. Just letting people know and this is not a monthly credit applied to your bill just a discount on purchase price. Just to let others know. Sounds like a better deal than Samsung.

You will get a decent battery and performance upgrade. Sounds like a good deal!

Samsung is going to take an absolute beating in sales from this.

When Apple gets a cold, everybody else gets the flu.

I think it will work itself out.

And tbh, Samsung might be punting this year on the S series... they already made it known that the foldable series is the flagship they plan to focus on. With Apple there's only one announcement of flagships that is released annually whereas Samsung puts out two flagships (one at the beginning and another in the fall).

At some point, Samsung will be considering consolidation. It's already been done with the Note and S series.

Funny enough i can get better deal for fold4 than for ultra23 from samsung here in czechia

Of course Samsung will be fine.

However I do think their sales numbers are going to be down if this is a trend they use the rest of the year.

We are certainly in an economic downturn if not a flat out recession. Not just here in the USA but the entire world is being affected.

This years release is very iterative. Nothing revolutionary.

I don't see people who have a phone from the last 2 to 3 years feeling a need to upgrade beyond us nerds.

They need to do something to incentivise people to buy new phones and so far I just don't see it.

agreed. When the fold has the best camera, spen built in etc.... that's when I'll move to it

While I did pre-order the sorta-white lol one in 512GB on an impulse ( My S22U is the Burgundy color which is awesome imo! ) .. but, I'm not entirely sure I'll keep or not cancel the pre-order!

Bill credits 👎 ( TMobile ) and a stupid TIV is not sitting right with me.. I suppose, logically, I should just keep using the S22U another year..

Gotta sleep on this for a few days, before I decide ..

Ok so I've just skipped through the keynote video, they did mention battery life with these slides. However I'm not sure how accurate they are and how accurate Samsung are when it comes to battery life (Apple for example tend to underestimate or be spot on with it, while others overestimate).

yeah :)

Thing is, no two people use their phone the same way so really, all that matters to me is whether it'll last my typical day or not.

Same sized battery ok, newer chip with possibly better power saving features may work out well + TSMC v samsung should help and of course in the UK we finally say bye to Exynos. So all in all, I'm going to ignore any talk about battery life and just try the damn thing myself :)
