Ok so I've just skipped through the keynote video, they did mention battery life with these slides. However I'm not sure how accurate they are and how accurate Samsung are when it comes to battery life (Apple for example tend to underestimate or be spot on with it, while others overestimate).

Like I said about 20% specifically coming from Exynos.

yeah :)

Thing is, no two people use their phone the same way so really, all that matters to me is whether it'll last my typical day or not.

Same sized battery ok, newer chip with possibly better power saving features may work out well + TSMC v samsung should help and of course in the UK we finally say bye to Exynos. So all in all, I'm going to ignore any talk about battery life and just try the damn thing myself :)
The battery life will at least be on par with the previous model though

so YMMV

Currently have the Pixel 7 Pro and extremely satisfied 4 months later, zero upgrade itch for the S23, to me it'd be more of a downgrade losing the silky buttery smooth stock Android and going back to the bloatware Touchwizz or whatever new name they slapped on top of TW. Hard pass.

To me the smartphone world is iPhone Pro Max or Pixel Pro

But good luck to those that don't like stock Android and need the million apps and options bakes into Samsung's UI.

Samsungs One UI is not bloated nor is it slow. I have the Exynos 22 Ultra version and not once have I had an issue it with. In fact I’d say it’s just as fast as my iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Lol. Hi Tig! It hasn’t been Touchwiz in years now. No lag anymore, at least not for me. But yes I definitely appreciate the Pixel environment. At some point I’ll get to a neurologist and see if something can be done for me so I’m not so limited in the displays I can use. I doubt it but it can’t hurt to try.

Why even comment at all if you are so happy?

Why throw shade on other people's excitement? Seems a little like sour grapes to me?

Samsung has one UI. If you are still calling it TouchWiz you obvious haven't used a Galaxy I'm a while.

While I prefer closer to stock Android I can appreciate Samsung hardware and a lot of their software.

If you have no interest in getting a Samsung device and have a Pixel why comment on a thread for people interested in the new Galaxy? It just makes no sense to me?

I am happy you like what you have. Why not just comment about how happy you are with your Pixel 7 on the Pixel 7 thread?

Does it make any sense to shoot 8 K videos? It looks like this phone can finally do it right.

My brother I love you man. But why are you throwing some shade on here? I love my pixel experience but I also love the Samsung one and it's definitely not bloated. I know a lot of people talk about duplicate apps but it doesn't slow down the daily usage and you can hide any app you wish. I use all my Google apps on my Samsung phones all the time.. TouchWiz is like 10 years past and the new experience is so much better not even close and it hangs with a lot of the phones including the iPhone and there are plenty of days that I'll take my Samsung over my Google phone and vice versa...

Well it is bloated for sure. But so what? You can use it or not. At least you have options.

In terms of speed it is just as good as anything else out there.

Probably not for a while anyway. Unless you have an 8k screen and lots of storage space.

But it might be fun to just try it out and see for yourself if you notice a difference?

Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

Since you plan on keeping the phone a while things may catch up to make 8k more mainstream in the next couple of years.

Slightly related but unrelated question: for those of you who like One UI and daily drive a Samsung phone, why do YOU like it? I'm asking because I've tried time and time again to like and appreciate it (I've owned S22, Flip 4, Fold 4) but I feel I'm either scratching the surface or don't need a lot of the features that One UI brings to the table. I flip flop between various Android phones and the iPhone quite regularly, I have found that I prefer the Pixel UI and I really like Material You and the fun animations / smoothness it brings. However, I can't last with the recent Pixels because with my dry skin the fingerprint scanner drives me up the wall. I want to like Samsung more than I end up doing.

Oh I shouldn’t have looked at that!🤣

So I see now I get $150 credit and when I ordered earlier it was just $100. I guess they finally applied my reservation credit. No I didn’t cancel my order. I was playing around because I had questions about whether something glitched earlier. Nothing glitched, they just play stupid games displaying prices. You have to pay close attention to actual prices because they display only discounted prices you may not actually qualify for if you don’t make a trade. Most people naturally keep track and understand what’s going on as they order. I’m always coming from a place of distraction. When I placed my order earlier three of my friends suddenly erupted into a text conversation.

Absolutely love my P7P but you couldn't be more off base here about OneUI. Those days have been gone since at least before the Note 10+. I love stock android but Samsung hardware is a huge upgrade over what Google offers. While my ultimate phone would be an S23U or Z Fold 5 running stock android I have absolutely no problem with Samsung's UI. I just wish it offered googles call screening feature and the excellent voice to text that stock android has.

I actually like iOS (when it’s not buggy) and Pixel’s version of Android better. But I physically can’t use the hardware (display flicker kills me). But One UI doesn’t bother me, exactly. I just ignore the stuff I don’t like. I ignore it so well I can’t even tell you what it is that I don’t like. I did pile up any bloat apps I don’t use and can’t really get rid of into a folder and ignore it all. There were some ads and promo things but I shut off the ones I didn’t want and ignore the rest.

I guess I love the hardware and that outweighs everything else for me personally.

I'm an iphone guy really so in no way an android expert but playing with the zflip4 with One UI and going to the pixel, I started just missing things that it turned out where One UI additions. I'm trying to think WHAT they were LOL little customisations and options here and there.

Years ago as someone commented "touchwizz" or whatever it used to be, was awful :( I didn't just dislike it I truly loathed it but One UI is a different thing altogether.

I mean, yeah I agree with you, I haven't even scratched the surface of what it can do but then for me that's kinda the point of when I pick up a samsung v an iphone. I'm expecting to be out of that locked in "do it our way or no way" system and into customise everything baby! :) and that's why I've really come to like One UI.

I'm sorry didn't mean to be rude here. it's cool if everyone's happy getting their new Galaxy S23, that's fun and exciting for sure.

I think I'm just burned out on smartphones lately, i was a BIG smartphone nerd and switched phones like every 6 months back in the golden age of smartphones. But the last 2 or 3 years, a new phone is almost no different than the old phone, virtually the same thing. The luster and excitement of a new phone just isn't the same as it used to be.

Even me, I have the Pixel 7 Pro now, and before that the Pixel 6 Pro, and between the two, even I can barely tell the difference, they seem too similar and no that different. I think smartphones have plateaued and meant to be upgraded maybe every couple years or three years nowadays. Upgrading year to year in my opinion is just burning cash as a first world consumer LOL

Under display fingerprint readers in general suck. I have a Samsung galaxy s22 plus with ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and it is not any more accurate than my Pixel 7 Pro.

However it is better when my hands are slightly wet so it might work marginally better than the Pixel.

I just wish they would incorporate it into the power button.

That being said, Samsung UI is great. There are tons of customization options on the phone. Dex and edge panels I never use but at least Dex might come in handy in a pinch.

Most of Samsung extras are useless to be honest. If you get an Ultra I can see where the spen could come in handy to take notes or sign legal documents BUT in terms of note taking speech to text on Pixel is amazing.

Really it is the hardware that is the advantage to Samsung. Usually you are getting the best screen hardware, best camera hardware, etc.

The software honestly isn't as polished as Pixel but it is still very good and generally very stable.

I hate the bloatware apps but most can be disabled or uninstalled and the rest you just have to deal with and ignore them. I don't like having a separate store for Samsung apps either as it is a potential security risk.

Pixel AI is better and the approach is completely different. The Tensor is no where near as fast as the 8 gen 2, and Samsung is using ufs 4.0 storage and faster ram. But as you probably know speedy processor isn't everything.

If I could only choose a Pixel 7 Pro or a Samsung Galaxy Ultra s23 it would be really close with Samsung having a few hardware advantages but for me the software on the Pixel makes it the overall better phone for how I use a phone. But the Ultra is right there next to it tempting me with its more advanced hardware and chipset. 😆 Lol

Of course my wants and my budget are a bit different and when you consider the cost of the Ultra vs the Pixel 7 Pro I think the Pixel 7 Pro is a much better value in terms of dollars spent, specially this year!

I totally get where you are coming from and agree mostly.

To me the new releases of the s23 are not that big of an upgrade and for me personally at this point not worth the extra cost coming from an s22 plus BUT the processor alone is almost enough to get me to buy it.

Like I said bring on the summer sales or maybe just the s24.....
