My wife almost fainted when I told her I wasn't going to go back to Apple. Haha!
Biggest disappointment is that they did not add a periscope lens and it's only a 5x Optical Zoom.Haha what did I miss folks I'm sure not much... I'm still not sure if I'm going to upgrade but if I do it would be just to go to the Max from my Pro
Definitely a disappointment .. I'm checking out that natural titanium color kind of digging it lol.. Apple wants to give me $360 from my iPhone 12 Pro no thank you keep it movingBiggest disappointment is that they did not add a periscope lens and it's only a 5x Optical Zoom.
Cringe or cheesy send a more personal anecdote. Nothing technical or directly related to the product itself (indirectly on what the company as a joke is doing).Totally.
That event was full on cringe and super cheesy.
The iPhone needs a revamped new OS not a new phone, they need to majorly overhaul and redesign iOS before I'd ever think of leaving Android for an iPhone again, and that's not happening, which is fine by me. Pixel 8 Pro or S24 Ultra are way cooler in my opinion.
U was the person I thought a lot while clicking through that really boring event.. and I was sure that you would end with decission to keep ultra...Welp. Apple did a good job of making my decision for me, haha.
I'm staying on the S23 Ultra. What an underwhelming launch.
Yeah, and the funny thing is, I went in with an open mind thinking I was probably going to switch back, but the keynote actually turned me off. The only thing that could possibly sway me again is if there's a bunch of things behind the scenes that have improved that they didn't mention in the keynote.U was the person I thought a lot while clicking through that really boring event.. and I was sure that you would end with decission to keep ultra...
I think he's talking about the fact that iOS used to be intuitive. My argument back in the day that was Pro iOS was that you could simply do everything in less clicks than Android. But then some pretty questionable decisions took place, the biggest gripe being the app library. To me the app library represents everything wrong with iOS right now. It's a clunky mess, the folder assignments don't make sense. Like how is Reddit not a Social app but instead an Informational/Reading app? So now I have a Social folder but the social app I use quite a bit is not in the folder, and I can't even correct Apple in their assignment. Or how about the ability to have the A-Z list as default? It's so bad and I cannot believe that it's been there for 3 years with zero OS updates to make it better.Cringe or cheesy send a more personal anecdote. Nothing technical or directly related to the product itself (indirectly on what the company as a joke is doing).
Why does Apple NEED a whole new OS? Google hasn’t made a whole new OS but they’ve made HUGe changes in the type of Kava used for coding apps and the IDE/SDK developers used also changed to reflect that some 5-7yrs ago - as the original core OS stack NEEDED a change to allow for. A much more powerful and modern system.
androidOS everything resulted huge changes:
Icons,
Themes,
Security layers in the UI and OS stack,
GPU performance etc.
I’m curious how well do you understand the mach OS Kernel and Unix within that Apple’s Kernel for macOS/iOS/iPadOS/WatchOS/tvOS is based on and their UI stack. Apple has successfully evolved this almost 20yrs since its introduction and implementation- which was originally used by NeXT as NeXTStepOS, and stated by Apple to serve them “at least for the next 10years, at least”.
There is NO function is the OS nor the Kernel that Apple cannot do that androiDOS can do. What Apple CHOOSES to do and to implement YES that’s what iOS Cannot Do vs what AndroidOS CAN do. There is a huge and major difference and distinction and examples are:
Biometric Unlock (Moto Atrix, Compaq iPaq 53xx on WindowsCE originally)
AoD
Widgets
PictureInPicture Video etc!
^ all on AndroidOS years before iOS and a deciding factor for those leaving Apple and right now I’d say Apple implemented all except 2 better:
-AOD brought 1-120hz displays an industry first on iPhones when only 60-120hz was on Android for years. Yes Apple screwed up with full screen only APD which didn’t increase battery life but software on the UI stack resolved that. The limitation wasn’t in the OS Kernel/UI layers.
-Biotmetric unlocking: Apple implanted TouchID that sensed ONLY when touched on the outer ring and was incredibly more accurate than any Android device at the time of the iPhone 5S launch year! Now FaceID a proper 3D imaging for unlocking that pictures cannot fool, but identical twins born less than 1 minute apart (due to physical growth being less detecting under a minute) and grew up in the same household CAN fool. AndroidOS devices from Samsung had to seriously make software adjustments to resolve that issue but still no 3D imaging despite the UI showing that is done it’s not how it’s actually used. Ultrasonic fingerprint display is awesome and DOES take a physical 3D imaging or sensing of your fingerprint. Sadly Apple didn’t do this with displays but TouchID already used that technology.
- Widgets & PIP I have to concede work and can be used a LOT better on Android.
So again why does Apple NEED a new OS or are you talking about the UI displayed on iPhones?!
Welp. Apple did a good job of making my decision for me, haha.
I'm staying on the S23 Ultra. What an underwhelming launch.
Haha for sure. I'm definitely environmentally conscious, but after about 5 minutes of it, I was gagging.I think that was the worst, most boring launch from Apple in years.
Not saying that environmental responsibility isn't important, but when they spend THAT long on it, you kinda know they're filling in time.
Watches got virtually nothing.. not even a new colour on the ultra 2.
pro max got a 5x zoom when samsung has had 10x for a while.... nothing really else that blew my mind.
IOS17 will bring some nice new bits but we can have those on earlier iphones anyway.
I think you're right, s23U and before we know it, the S24ultra will be announced in feb.
With android 14/oneui6, things are a lot smoother and nicer than previous (in my humble opinion) and so it's getting harder to even say that the iphone looks/feels smoother.
then there's all the amazing configurability of the s23u, the great camera apps, the spen.... and so on.
Apple tried to get a few snarks in there though didn't they press the shutter button no lag because even a split second later would ruin the shot, and somehow they made the 5x zoom sound like well it's 10x really need to see what trickery they were suggesting there...
Who'd have thought I'd write this post, my android friends will probably be framing this and reminding me of it at every possible opportunity.
That was always my default. Well, it's iOS. Now I'm at the point where I haven't used iOS for over a half a year, so it's not pulling me like it once did.Wow I expected a little more from Apple, I was looking forward to what they were going to do with the zoom camera. it's like they took the iPhone 14 and just threw a couple of new things in there, the only impressive part for me was the A17 Pro chip and it won't even affect me since I don't play games on my phone.
The problem I have is that Samsung's S23 Ultra spoilt me with the zoom, however we don't know how the iPhone 15 Pro Max will compare, but from what I've seen im underwhelmed by that keynote. Unless more details come out about the 15 or 15 Pro line up.
It's kind of a shame that Apple has me sticking with them all because of IOS
That was always my default. Well, it's iOS. Now I'm at the point where I haven't used iOS for over a half a year, so it's not pulling me like it once did.
either apple comes with fold clone, or they will keep releasing more stale updates every year.. like, why for sake would i spend any money upgrading from 14 pro to 15 pro? oh an dI love every second they mention siri during event siri is the most stupid "AI" on the market, by far...
It’s not periscope? I think they can’t use periscope as a term because of Samsung trademarks and patents (I’m probably wrong). But I thought the structure was more or less the same idea.Biggest disappointment is that they did not add a periscope lens and it's only a 5x Optical Zoom.
All my passwords transfer over from one Samsung to the next and even if they didn't it would take me an hour max to sort it all out....I tried liking my S23 for 2 full weeks. There are things I really like about it but the frustrations caused and pain points I’ve experienced and one major disappointment I experienced just didn’t make me happy enough!
1. iOS passwords (from Keychain):
Doesn’t export and no application nor switch service, including password managers ON DEVICE automatically nor a prompt to fully migrate them over. You have to do it one by one by one into Chrome. Password managers seed iOS passwords into their apps/service upon prompt logon to a site.
2. HideMyRelay: some of my account logins are IN this service. I accidentally removed my relay email from Reddit association and you cannot restore or change your logon cause an email for confirmation of your account is sent to whatever email is associated originally. It’s a randomized email smtp that once disassociated you cannot get back. Restoring from iCloud automatically restored my Reddit and other accounts I have.
3. Samsung Dex: The disappointment!
Great desktop experience in the UI shown. Apps if already launched on the devices OneUI existence are promoted to restart to be used in Dex - that’s an annoyance that grows significantly when you have 4GB of apps and running data in RAM!
Chrome on Dex is STILL a mobile experience and the same on iPhone. It’s a JOKE! You cannot get the desktop mode on Sex for Chrome.
4. I have no Samsung devices. I may still get the Tab S9 but if iPad Pro comes with official IP68 then there is no need for that in my life.
5. Auto input of 2FA code messages:
This is SO SEAMLESS and “just works” on iPhone from day one. Downer matter which app, which website nor which authentication code is pushed to me either with iMessage sms or in app. Many times I don’t even have to leave the input screen nor press a virtual button.
6. Apple Health!: I have years of health data that did NOT come over and since 2020 with health deteriorating this is VITAL importance to me as I begin to improve my health.
The S23 is going back to Rogers tomorrow - Return is already processed!
The tight integration performance and efficiency of processing and the OS for iPhone just works for me. Despite its limitations. I’ve said before that thebiPhone is a phone first. It is and it works better as that that anything else on the market. No other “Smartphone” should have PHONE in their category without getting things of this mature just right.
Note: passwords saved with Samsung’s account ALSO cannot be exported on device!!
Enjoy your Galaxy’s mates I may return for a Flip in a few years, maybe.
It’s not periscope? I think they can’t use periscope as a term because of Samsung trademarks and patents (I’m probably wrong). But I thought the structure was more or less the same idea.
Lol to me one of the more exciting pieces of news is they’re finally trying to reduce lens flare. 🤣. It’s soooo bad on iPhone.
Again you are just used to iPhone. It works for you and you feel at home in the walled garden. No shame in that but I wish you guys would stop making out that Apple does things better. It doesn't. It just does those things in a way that you're familiar with.
Haha for sure. I'm definitely environmentally conscious, but after about 5 minutes of it, I was gagging.
Speaking of OneUI 6, how's the beta? Ready for daily driver yet? I'm itching to try it but yeah it's my only device, lol.
Nice! I'm so tempted haha.I'm extremely impressed with it! I'm using it as my daily driver, every day I find something new, not had anything go wrong with it etc. It's very slick indeed.
Between the s23ultra hardware and oneui6, when both phones are sitting on my desk, I keep grabbing for the s23ultra for the speed, the pen which i use more than I expected to, the camera app and all those wonderful options etc.
still don't like how samsung wants me to buy into their apple-a-like ecosystem with all the duplicate apps, I really wish they'd just allow everything to be google.
but yeah, brilliant device, brilliant update, can't really believe I'm fanboying over an android on the evening of an apple keynote!
I thought it had 10x optical?Biggest disappointment is that they did not add a periscope lens and it's only a 5x Optical Zoom.
Weird, they said it was only 5x in the Keynote
