Well, this week will be interesting. Throughout owning this phone, I have planned on returning to Apple at some point, just always been my long term plan. But I do love this phone so much. The only things that could really sway me, if the iPhone 15 PM is really good, is that I do miss iMessage, more from a standpoint of that it just seems more stable. I have had enough times where I sent a text and the other person didn't get it and vice versa. Also, the double apps for photos still annoys me. But I would have a really tough time parting with the S23 Ultra.

We shall see!

There is a dark blue iPhone 15 PM with my name on it somewhere! But I will keep my s23U as well. I have tried going both directions over the years. Either all in on Apple or all in on Android. It just never works for me picking one or the other. So I am left with both platforms. It works for me...although I can see it not working for others as well.
It is my happy place for now

Haha yeah I tried doing the 2 phone thing once and it just didn't work. I think I'm leaving towards staying on Android but we'll see how I feel after the Keynote.

yeah I'll be getting the 15PM. To me it's still the slicker platform all round, but I'm not as excited as I normally would be because it's also a bit boring. The s23u is still the one I pick up for fun

I just use Samsung gallery. I presume the other one you refer to is Google Photos? I disable that.

95% of my messaging is done on WhatsApp with 100% success rate and the other 5% is done on FB Messenger again with 100% success rate.

This double apps thing is overblown, just disable one and forget about it. Apple has built-in apps just like Samsung! You can choose to use Apple's apps or download Google's equivalent. There really is no issue. Apple peeps are just used to the way they've always done things over the years on Apple devices. If someone spends a good number of years on Android devices and then switches to Apple they're going to arguably encounter an even larger amount of 'problems'.

The only time I hold my hands up and say "stop with Apple" because there really is no way around it is with Americans who have a thing for iMessage. I mean if your partner, mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, sister, brother and all of your friends have an iPhone then it's probably best that you stick with Apple. Even more so if you own a Mac, an iPhone, an iWatch and mention the word 'ecosystem' a lot....

My biggest issue is that I prefer Google Photos but there's no way of making it the default app.

Is there not? I've never tried but I take your word for it. I use Samsung photo gallery and Samsung Internet browser, Google calendar and Google maps etc. I always remove the icons to the duplicates and uninstall/disable them.

Never had any problems but then I'm set in my ways and like my ways. When I use Apple devices I feel like I'm using workarounds and sub-standard apps rather than a better system.. When I first swapped over from Apple I kinda thought that I'd probably hate it and end up going back but I never did. It took me a very short time to get used to the Android way and that was that. I had a clean break though, I went all-in. I had no iPad or iWatch so it was a proper go at it.

I've since bought an iPad but again I prefer my Samsung tablets and bought the recently released Tab S9. I just prefer Android but I do like AppleNews+ lol. It's about all I use my iPad for.

I know we all have different preferences but I just don't find this an issue. When posting a pic or something on FB or any other social media platform it defaults to the gallery which is fine to me but I can always browse over to Google photos if im looking for something that's not on my device. When I'm using my Samsung devices I just roll with their gallery app and use Google photos like Dropbox. The only time I really need to open Google photos is if Im looking for a photo taken with another device or if I'm wanting to use googles photo editing tools.

As far as messaging I can't recall an issue where a message hasn't gone thru. No doubt iMessage is the best messaging service but I just don't have an issue using Google messages. Especially as RCS is becoming more of the norm on android devices.

Haha yep and of course I'm the complete opposite. I love Google Photos and would actually rank it even above iOS native photos app. And that's where the issue comes in. If I'm making a large Facebook post with several photos, it defaults to Samsung Gallery, so it takes much longer to post because I have to go through each picture again to make sure that's the one I want to upload.

I know it seems pretty minor but it is a bit frustrating.

Thanks @Bkdodger Yes you're right it was the Samsung Smart Switch that didn't launch out of the box initially.
Moreover, even though I selected Wireless transfer on screen (3rd attempt on Day 1) there was mention of removicable just before I started which was really odd to me. Yet on Day 4/5 I clued in that the iPhone Lightning to USB-C cable was required.

Critical for IOS to Android Switchers:
1. iOS saved passwords in Settings > Passwords can NOT be migrated nor auto exported on any iPhone (as of iOS 16.3.1) - you NEED a Mac to do so.
2. Palsskeys are becoming more common - no password will be shown for entries with such within iOS > Setings > Passwords (you cannot export or use the sharesheet either unless you have a Mac/iOS/iPadOS device (Grrrr! I thought this was to be a universal standard and that Apple would MAKE this available as its owned by the END user). You'll need to deleted the passkey first in order to create a password or change on site.
3. iCloud email account : if you used this very frequently as your username for various websites - you should heavily consider changing this before you rid yourself of your iPhone (especialy if you have no iPad nor Mac nor a hosted macOS where your iCloud account is used.
4. Hide Your Email (iOS Relay Service)!
Bollocks ! if you have accounts here be VERY sure FIRST to access the site in Safari, then change your sign in credentials first before toggling the switch to no longer use the service else when you leave this page (iOS > Settings > iCloud > Hide Your Email) it'll be GONE permanently.

Apple NEEDs to do better in terms of allowing the user to keep their credentials and export them from the device directly!

Oh there are quite a lot of awesome developer created Edge Panels that I've seen in the Samsung Galaxy store but I'm after the current one that well allows me to swipe twice to get a single column at a time with different list of apps, folders. I've not seen this in about 3yrs.
Thank you thank you thank you for this advice list. I’m not stopping my use of iOS anytime soon, but your advice will help me reduce or eliminate some holes I dug myself into relying too much on iCloud email and my hide my email use with some services.

Two phone user for life
Three manufacturers for me. Google Pixel (currently 7a) Samsung (currently S22 and s23 Ultra) and iPhone (whatever won’t give me migraines).

I actually have way more phones than 3. I’m regularly using 4 these days. S22 Ultra gets a lot of love due to the display being so kind to my nervous system. It’s what I use when I’m not feeling well and I am stuck in bed or the sofa and just want to web surf. Otherwise I’d be selling it or passing it to another family member.

I’ll also be camping out on S23 Ultra for a couple of years. Lavender is my baby. My husband has lime green and I won’t let him trade that away for awhile! But neither of us would want the color showing all the time. It’s a retina burner for sure. It’s in a more modest colored case. But we do look at the lime from time to time.

I’ve got some iPhones I can’t use and will probably lend out to the younger kids in the extended family: 12 mini and SE3. iPhone 11 I keep because the last time I ever talked to my dad was on that phone. Unfortunately the display was causing me vision problems.

Lol sorry I’m babbling waiting for the iPhone event.

My 12 Pro Max is one I know I can rely on as long as it lasts. But I am really hoping when I trade my 14 Pro Max that I’ll be able to use the 15 Pro Max. I’m currently on some really grueling medication treatment that might (thin hope) make my brain less sensitive to pwm as a side effect of fixing more serious issues. I’ve got a week left to go. I can’t tell if it’s working because it’s making me feel 🤢🥴 for now.

Samsung is having a sale on these phones this month. Worth checking out if you're still thinking about getting one of them.

I tried liking my S23 for 2 full weeks. There are things I really like about it but the frustrations caused and pain points I’ve experienced and one major disappointment I experienced just didn’t make me happy enough!

1. iOS passwords (from Keychain):
Doesn’t export and no application nor switch service, including password managers ON DEVICE automatically nor a prompt to fully migrate them over. You have to do it one by one by one into Chrome. Password managers seed iOS passwords into their apps/service upon prompt logon to a site.

2. HideMyRelay: some of my account logins are IN this service. I accidentally removed my relay email from Reddit association and you cannot restore or change your logon cause an email for confirmation of your account is sent to whatever email is associated originally. It’s a randomized email smtp that once disassociated you cannot get back. Restoring from iCloud automatically restored my Reddit and other accounts I have.

3. Samsung Dex: The disappointment!
Great desktop experience in the UI shown. Apps if already launched on the devices OneUI existence are promoted to restart to be used in Dex - that’s an annoyance that grows significantly when you have 4GB of apps and running data in RAM!

Chrome on Dex is STILL a mobile experience and the same on iPhone. It’s a JOKE! You cannot get the desktop mode on Sex for Chrome.

4. I have no Samsung devices. I may still get the Tab S9 but if iPad Pro comes with official IP68 then there is no need for that in my life.

5. Auto input of 2FA code messages:
This is SO SEAMLESS and “just works” on iPhone from day one. Downer matter which app, which website nor which authentication code is pushed to me either with iMessage sms or in app. Many times I don’t even have to leave the input screen nor press a virtual button.

6. Apple Health!: I have years of health data that did NOT come over and since 2020 with health deteriorating this is VITAL importance to me as I begin to improve my health.

The S23 is going back to Rogers tomorrow - Return is already processed!

The tight integration performance and efficiency of processing and the OS for iPhone just works for me. Despite its limitations. I’ve said before that thebiPhone is a phone first. It is and it works better as that that anything else on the market. No other “Smartphone” should have PHONE in their category without getting things of this mature just right.

Note: passwords saved with Samsung’s account ALSO cannot be exported on device!!

Enjoy your Galaxy’s mates I may return for a Flip in a few years, maybe.

Welp. Apple did a good job of making my decision for me, haha.

I'm staying on the S23 Ultra. What an underwhelming launch.

Totally.

That event was full on cringe and super cheesy.

The iPhone needs a revamped new OS not a new phone, they need to majorly overhaul and redesign iOS before I'd ever think of leaving Android for an iPhone again, and that's not happening, which is fine by me. Pixel 8 Pro or S24 Ultra are way cooler in my opinion.

Yeah I will be more interested in what the Pixel looks like and then determine if I want to be on stock Android or remain on Samsung.

Yep. To me it's Pixel or Galaxy Ultra and nothing else.

I tried the iPhone back when the 12 Pro Max was new, and hated iOS it felt so outdated and limited, and just the way it operated and did things felt weird and not right, like extra steps to do, where in Android is simpler and just quicker. I have zero interest in going to an iPhone anytime soon.
