As you know I'm a diehard Nexus / Pixel guy, but open to other brands if they're truly as good or better.

Don't know why I'm always so tempted by the S23 Ultra? I keep reading about the stellar battery life, and amazing bright screen, and that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 being far superior than Tensor 2

But...is the S23 Ultra smooth and fluid with little to zero hiccups or microstters? Meaning as smooth as a Pixel 7 Pro?

Everything I read online approx 75% people saying the S23 Ultra is way better and faster and just as smooth as the 7 Pro. But then I also read about 25% of people saying it still runs Lagwiz and just isn't on par animation wise and fluid wise as a Pixel or newer iPhone?

If not, why is that? The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has the best fastest hardware of any Android phone, so why isn't is as smooth and watery fluid as a Pixel? It should destroy it, but I hear it doesn't. What's up with that? Or am I wrong here?
It's better than the P7P it's just not a Pixel phone.. It's the best phone of the year IMO ... There was absolutely no lag on the phone none zero.. don't know what these people are talking about lol if you don't like Samsung that's okay I can understand that but people saying that the phone has lag is ridiculous to me.. there's always room for improvement just like any other phone.. some people will like the camera some will hate it that's subjective.. skin tones and pets and moving kids are better on a pixel..#facts

As your friend here I say just keep it moving and wait on the next pixel phone...

I have a Pixel 7 Pro and Samsung s23 ultra. I am not a particular fan of any company, more than they make a good product and stand behind it. I have used Android since before donut and used tons of various Android devices over the years. I have also used iPhone and iOS.

So to your maim question, which phone feels faster, more fluid, with no microstutters, etc. I think that is about all. In having used both phones since launch I can safely say that the Samsung S23 Ultra is a clear winner in all categories. The snapdragon 8 gen 2 is a huge upgrade from the Tensor G2.

Before OneUI 5 all Samsung devices had animation stutter. Once Samsung released One UI 5 the stutter was gone and this was on a s22 plus. The s23 ultra has never had any animation stutter at all since I have owned it. The s23u is amazingly fast, efficient and with the vapor chamber stays cool no matter what you do. I have never had this phone heat up on me.

So the s23 u has way better thermal performance than the P7P, it has better efficiency, battery life and still is vastly faster. The screen is better. The box shape of the screen actually makes a difference in optimization of usable space. The speakers have more bass and get louder. The s pen for signing documents.

Now to be fair for about half the cost of the s23u configuration I have my base model Pixel 7 Pro is about 85%-90% as good as the s23u hardware wise in terms of everyday use. Comparing the phones it is not as big a difference as you would think.

The P7P is still fast. The Tensor G2 is not a bad chip. The AI capabilities are pretty amazing. In my opinion I don't care so much about raw speed in a Pixel as much as I expect reliable and steady power which unfortunately due to the thermal issues and throttling the G2 doesn't always deliver. It can run hot doing seemingly nothing too. If you are in a warm environment, using 5g and GPS mapping, a few other apps and the phone will get hot and apps will slow down or even freeze.

However, most of the time the Tensor runs good enough. Sometimes the battery life will surprise you. The screen while not the latest tech and with a pretty big curve is one of the nicest I have used. The color balance is perfect. Taking photos I prefer on the Pixel because shots just look better over all.

The speakers on the P7P are surprisingly good. Loud and rich. The only real issue is battery and throttling.

In terms of UI I do prefer Pixel UI. I am not going to lie. I have hated Samsung UI for many years since TouchWiz. I actually don't hate OneUI as it is called now any more. I still hate all the pre installed apps. But the UI has greatly improved and has a kitchen sink approach to Android that like a Swiss army knife can be useful at times.

Pixel UI is just more refined and streamlined. Sometimes that means less configuration but I feel like Google does a good job striking the right balance between configuration and simplicity.

Honestly I really think you should just get a S23 Ultra. I would say sans Pixel 8 Pro the s23 ultra is the over all best phone of 2023. It just is a great phone in every way. But you should keep a Pixel around. It is really nice to back and forth between the P7P and the s23u. They are both incredible phones. In terms of value the Pixel 7 Pro in my opinion is the best phone of 2023 for value.

First time I'd actually seen/heard this guy and as much as I'm loving my s23u, I think he was pretty spot on with everything he said.

In fact it reminded me a lot of Steve Jobs interviews where he was talking about how Microsoft just lacked taste and didn't inject culture into anything they made. Samsung does feel a bit soulless in that sense... everything by the book, but not necessarily something to feel passionate or inspired by.

Didn't put me off my s23u which is still the best phone I've used, but I'll pay that guy and his company a bit more attention in the future I think.
Well I have seen a few videos of his. I like Carl. He is very smart and charming. Great for videos. We will see what his vision for Nothing plays out. A lot of his criticism is right on but he also sort of cherry picks. He talks about duplicate apps and how you don't do that but he doesn't talk about the ecosystem that Samsung has built into its products that no other Android OEM offers.

So I like Carl, he is a visionary but he also is not producing a product I would want to use as my daily phone, at least yet. How big is his vision? Will his company last this time around?

I will say I am rooting for Nothing and Carl. The big boys at Samsung and Apple need a little shake up from some new competition!!

excellent post, says it all really.

nothing really to add except to say that I've noticed zero lag on the s23u in fact it makes everything else I have seem slow.

I too prefer the pixel look and feel, and it punches way above its weight especially in photography. If they ever do a pixel ultra with top of the range hardware, it would be a very hard decision for me.

I agree the S23 Ultra IS the Beast Mode of all Android phones and even this late inits product life cycle its worth its money still bare none. Especially with all the rumours if you're in Europe that Samsung may not use the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 SoC for that region in its successor the S24U - that would make the current S23U just that much more valuable.

4 years Software updates (including AndroidOS and OneUI)
5years security updates to AndroidOS and OneUI
Samsung granted this before Any in the industry and started a major trend yet this was granted to the S21 lineup on up! NO competitor did that. Not even Google's recent announcement of besting this just by 1yr(?)

Key benefits for choosing Samsung:
Samsung Knox - SoC and entire chipset security: if you recall BlackBerry's BES and device security of BBOS/BB10 well their lead SVP left before BB10 was contemplated and wen tot Samsung to create KNOX.

Samsung Secure Folder (basd on Samsung Knox security)

Samsung Dex - although doesn't support LInux OS like its early days its a LOT better than Motorola Ready or AndroidOS 13's desktop mode. This is NOT ChromeOS and if you connect to a hosted Citrix environment you can run Citrix Workstation and access your remote desktop environment - specifically you can run multiple instances as some corporations setup Citrix environments that way. Other AndroidOS devices cannot do this.
- couple with this (potentially) wiht Andronix - I'm curious if this would work within Samsung Dex for a full Linux Distro.
https://docs.andronix.app/unmodded-distros/unmodded-os-installation
(I have NOT tried this nor fully read the site and implementation steps yet).

Samsung S23 Tips and Tricks and Hidden Advanced Features (This is the motherload and an hour long but very helpful and useful. Dude is the goat of what you can do).

I don't own the S23U just the S23 as that suits my small hands. Yet I can recognize The Ultra is incredible. Eventually I think it'll merge with the Z Fold lineup in a few years.

Tap & Hold the main (or any of your home screens) and the Home Screen Editor will show up.
Bottom lleft of the screen you'll see 'Widgets"
select and search for Google (in the top search bar)
you'll see the results "Google 4" which you can use the chevron to expand and there you'll see the 1 row Google search bar.

My S23 had this there by default - you can addd/remove at your leisure.
Saves me from 2 finger swiping fromt he top and selectinhg the top right corner of the On UI app drawer for searches ;) Also its a universla like search: Apps, web, files, etc. results are very accurate.

Oh I thought you meant a different Google One Widget, lol. I obviously know about this one Haha

I switched to the S23 Ultra from an iPhone 14 Pro Max despite being fully invested in the Apple ecosystem. I tried to hate the S23 Ultra every chance I got. Tried to sell it, give it to others, trade it...did everything but somehow ended up not doing any of those. After all that, I can tell that it is hands down the best phone I've ever used iOS & Android combined.

I have used every iteration of the iphone and the pixel but S23 Ultra in every aspect is the best phone ever. If I have to nitpick, I don't like One UI but its an easy one to mask with Nova.

I will still buy the iphone 15 Pro and the Pixel 8 Pro but I believe I am going to stick with Samsung Ultra series for a long time.

If only there was a compelling product on the android side that can even come 5% close to the Apple watch, Life on the android side would be amazing.

What color S23 Ultra do you guys / gals prefer?

Honestly the colors kind of suck this year except the exclusive Samsung colors and they are just decent which in my opinion would be blue or lime or the grey/graphite. In the standard colors I like the Lavender if it were actually more Lavender but at least it looks like a color. The green is very dark and has a military greenish color which almost looks Grey. The cream is well a version of white. The black is black. I guess I would go with Lavender if I could handle Pink or Black or Green.

Samsung really needs to step up the colors. The Note 10 I had was in a rainbow like finish. It was so cool. I wish Samsung would just bring in some more saturated deeper colors.

Of course we all put a case on the phone that completely covers the finish. Lol.

I would just buy whatever is cheapest like if a specific model is on sale or whatever you gravitate to.

The green looks good but I played it safe with my usual black
I think black is better. I had the green s22 plus last year and the green this year on the s23u and I prefer the s22 green by a wide margin.

The green almost look black in some lighting. But I like colors that pop. I hate washed out pastel tones which is sort of what we got using "natural" pigments in the dye. I am sorry but the least of my worries about environmental impact of a cell phone is the dye used in the glass of the phone. Batteries and yearly upgrades seem a far worse issue than dye color.

Sorry, I went off a little there. You will have to take at least one picture of the back and front of the phone. I wish Samsung would just release the limited colors to all vendors. They look so much better to me? Although the colors we have don't look bad. Lol.

Maybe I just got the wrong case. I was really hoping this green would be more the 60s pea green shade that was so popular at that time or something close. I think it would have worked on a phone. This is sort of a military green but it seems very washed out to me and at times I don't even see green. It just looks sort of dark Grey?

The phone rocks no matter what color you choose!!

I had the green/grey Fold 4 so didn't want the same colour again...and black/cream are a bit boring IMO so I got the 12Gb lavender one. It lives in a black case anyway so who really cares.

Hello everyone, is there an application for the S23 series phones to check the battery status, its capacity and the number of charges? Something like CoconutBattery for MacOS? Thank you.

Most likely there is an error in communication with Apple servers and Gmail application client. Causing you to delete in Gmail whichbis not deleting on Apple servers.

I would try to delete the Apple account in Gmail. Add the account again and generate a new Apple generated password to use in Gmail and try again.
