I’m so glad you got your phone today! The wait until tomorrow is agonizing for me! I’d be curious what your initial impressions of the device are or will be?
Today I was obsessed with whether or not I've got a good display. I finally got to fully compare it with my husband's and they're the same. He also has an off axis shift towards a teal blue.

Our S22 Ultras don't have this. I think I do prefer my S22 Ultra display for that reason, because I tend to look at my display from different angles when I set my phone down and prop it up on its ring stand.

But if I'm holding it and looking at it head-on then it's more equal to the S22 Ultra. I know eventually I'll unsee it. But there may be other aspects of the display not readily apparent that might trigger my migraines. (Sigh...like Rihanna's halftime show at the superbowl. I had to look away from some of the flashing lights).

I downloaded Camera Assistant for free from Samsung's app store so I can test the camera more tomorrow. I hope.

Hopefully this isn’t version two of the panel lottery that we all played back in, I think (?), the Pixel 2/3 days.

Speaking of migraines, however, I have the same problem with LG OLED panels, and it’s the worst because I only figured out that that’s why I was having such pain once the return policy expired. Of course, when I switched from my iPhone 7 Plus to the iPhone XS Max in 2018, I noticed the migraines as well.

What’s really odd to me is how most of the time I can look at a panel and just know it’s disruptive and will cause migraines. Some examples of panels that caused issues for me: Razer Book, Galaxy Book 2 360 (the 2021 model), the mini-LED iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, the iPhone XS Max and iPhone 14 Pro, and as I said before LG OLEDs. If you have any insight into the similarities between these panels, let me know.

My phone will be here in about 12 hours, give or take ideal conditions. I seem to be one of the few who ended up getting lavender, so we’ll see how I feel about that…

After about a day of use, I'm really liking this phone a lot. Samsung freaking nailed it in pretty much all aspects. My only annoyances are that I'm just so used to certain things in iOS. That's transitional stuff.

I'm going to Cancun starting tomorrow and returning Monday. Leaving the S23 Ultra home and taking my iPhone just because I have everything set up for my travel already and don't want to forget something and then be scrambling on an OS that I haven't used much in years. I think that'll be the big determining factor on how I move forward. If I can't wait to use it again while I'm in Mexico, then I think it's a keeper. If I generally enjoy my experience again on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, then I'll probably stay put. Really tough to think about sending the S23 Ultra back though!
If you stay on the iPhone after returning from your trip you would not have given Samsung a fair chance at all. You have only used it a day and then will be putting it aside (for valid reasons) for five days. Upon returning from Cancun, start usinf the Samsung and give it at least two weeks. Enjoy Mexico!

Please share pictures of the lavender! I am curious! I remember the Purple-ish color on the Pixel 3a back in the day and loving it!

My cream colored S23 Ultra is coming in tomorrow (Wednesday) and I’ll try to get pictures for all of you, if anyone is curious!

I’m starting to get a bit antsy this morning, because the status of the package with my phone last updated 13 hours ago to say “at destination sort facility” and there have been no updates since. I’d think that, if the package was arriving today, it would have changed to something else by now, no?

Oh for sure , 100%. I already know for sure I’m going to miss the heck out of the Ultra the rest of the week!

The Ultra is ridiculous it’s just a small tablet masquerading as a phone. Since when has it been the case that it’s regarded as normal that a phone cannot be used one handed. Give me the baseline compact and light S23 over the Ultra any day. This move to stupidly large phones has been the worst trend in modern phones.

One of the reasons I’m thinking of moving from my iPhone 13 Pro to the S23 is because the latter is smaller and lighter.

well its each to their own isn't it? I've no problem using the ultra and I don't like the size of the "normal" series for my use. For me it's either flip phone or full size ultra.

I'm glad there's choice!

But to me the Ultra crosses the line in what it means to be a mobile phone where it becomes an impractical device.

My status on the FedEx status didn't indicate my phone was out for delivery until about half an hour before it arrived! It was very confusing to follow that status.

Sadly, I think I'm feeling pwm sensitivity with this phone's display.

noooo :( that's sad

interestingly I haven't noticed it YET... in fact the screen to me is one of the best things about it. I'm not sure if now you've mentioned it I'll start to notice it though LOL

Sales numbers and the market for these phones say otherwise. You have a choice of going with a smaller device as well just like everyone else. The pro/pro max version of all flagship lines greatly outsell the smaller versions. I have no problem using the pixel 7 Pro, 14 Pro Max, or S23 Ultra one handed. The only time it is difficult is if I'm laying in bed. For one that just uses their device as a phone and shoots the occasional pic I agree it doesn't make sense to go with the larger devices. I use mine to sign pdf docs, watch hockey, football, basketball, baseball, play games, view construction drawings, and many more things. The slight inconveniences of handling a larger device sure are out numbered by the convenience it adds to my life.

If it's FedEx I have had mine show up at my office before without ever changing to "out for delivery". Sometimes it will change around 9am but is already on the truck hours earlier.

I'm so tempted to buy the S23 Ultra. I've got a brand new 14 Pro Max but really want to try it. I tried the S22 Ultra last summer but only lasted a day. Every time I've tried Android in the past I've always decided pretty quickly to go back to the iPhone. Except in June 2010 I bought the HTC Evo and kept that until December before making the switch back to the iPhone 4.

Heck maybe I'll buy it and just keep two phones. That's crazy but maybe it's what I should do. If I really grow to love the S23 Ultra I'll just sell the iPhone down the road.

You have to give it a fair chance. I appreciate that change can be stressful, irritating, and give one an urge to get back immediately to the comfort zone of the just left system but it does take some time to adapt. Three years ago I tried Android for the first time and after a couple of days I was very pleased with my new Samsung. Be fair to yourself and Android.

...but then it's your choice not to buy it so as long as they continue to make the ultra for me and the normal size s23 for you there's nothing for either of us to complain about surely? :)

The only issue I could see with this is the Ultra is slowly becoming the phone that gets the new stuff and the regular S and S+ are the afterthought.

At least with Apple you can choose the Pro or Pro Max and the only difference is the screen size and size of the battery. You don't have to buy the biggest phone to get the best camera etc.

I'm guessing in the next couple of years they won't even bother making a Plus version of the S series, and the regular S will be in some weird mid-level/premium space where the price is still high but it's nowhere near as good as the Ultra.

could well happen, I guess it'll all depend on the sales numbers... it may turn out to be a niche too small for samsung and some other manufacturer may well take it up. That's one of the advantages of android I suppose, if one manufacturer doesn't do what you want there are loads more.
