I don't know how some of you find adequate time for each phone you own, I certainly haven't found much time for my Fold 4 that much since getting my S23 Ultra.
This is my sentiments exactly! Now, I understand having a secondary phone to use as a backup… but to literally carry two phones as a means for communication can seem excessive imo. But salute to those who do!

Perhaps, I’m more of a minimalist… I try to shave off having too many devices (if possible). I don’t like having overlap.

The only reason I have 2 (iPhone and S22 Ultra) is because I use my iPhone 14 Pro Max as my health a fitness device, I have my Apple Watch ultra which I use for running and training for marathons. I use the iPhone for its more reliable data with the Apple Watch Ultra, I also use it to track my sleep and using Apple fitness+

On the other hand I had my S22 Ultra (and soon to be S23 Ultra when it arrives and I trade in my 22 Ultra) as my everyday phone. I find this setup works very well.

There is a chance that some of the issues that you have with the display may get tweaked with a software update over time. Since it is a new display for Samsung odds are they are still dialing in the display to get it right?

I am sorry to hear about your experience. Seems like new phones aren't working out for you this year. The Pixel 7 Pro and the s23 ultra.

Unfortunately tech is a moving target and manufacturers are always using new technology to enhance battery life or some other features.

You have a 30 day return policy with Samsung? Maybe cancel the return wait another week or two and see if anything changes. Then if not, you can still go ahead with the return?

There is also a chance that you got a bad display. You said your husband's is better but still has some issues too. It is not uncommon for initial productions runs to have problems so maybe you could call Samsung and explain the situation and ask for an exchange with an extended return window in case you still have the same problems?
Actually I only have 15 days.

I took Tylenol AND aspirin together and I’m still in pain. That’s a display induced headache for sure. Oddly enough, I’m not usually prone to headaches. Sometimes I get ones due to a weather front or because of my sinuses when I’m sick.

Mostly if I get a headache this bad it’s the display. I’m just glad it showed up so fast and decisively while I could make my return window. It took awhile for me to realize my 14 Pro Max requires very restricted use.

I tried looking on my S23 Ultra for a few minutes and it really hurt as I was doing so. I switched to my S22 Ultra and the pain eased up immediately back to the dull background pain I have now.

I am currently typing this on my 14 Pro Max. I need to get a new screen protector for my S22 Ultra since I foolishly removed it yesterday to compare displays. So I have it sitting out of harms way in my bedroom.

I am really very fortunate I can use my S22 Ultra. A lot of other people who struggle with displays can’t use any OLED displays at all. Yeah it kind of stinks I can’t use a fantastic beautiful new phone but there’s always later in the year. Something might change. And well…I did say I wanted to start keeping my phones 2 years. It just may be the S22 Ultra that I settle down with for that long after all! Not too shabby.

I’m still going to be on this thread to read and celebrate with you all.

To play devils advocate you can very easily do all the fitness stuff on Your S22U with a Garmin or Galaxy watch and ditch the need for so many devices. From what iv'e read the Garmin watches are actually superior to the AW when it comes to Fitness.

I do have a Galaxy Watch 4 classic, I just didn’t like it as a fitness watch. A Garmin might not be a bad idea, I do use the Nike running app a lot tho and I’m not sure if you can listen to music on a Garmin.

Sounds like a very smart and wise strategy.

No phone is worth personal suffering.

I hope you feel better soon!

The s22 ultra is certainly not a bad phone to be stuck with and you have more money in your pocket. Win, win!

for me it depends where i'm going. If i'm going work I tend to carry it in my bag.

If i know i'm just going to my parents or whatever or going out shopping i will tend to take just my iphone. If i'm going walking know i will be taking photos i will take my 2nd device or during my camera comparisons I have 3 phones in my pockets lol I certainly couldn't do this on a regular basics

Um no! some people have been talking about the s23 and some the s23ultra... doesn't matter to us?

oh and young with perfect hands? I wish :) far from it.... perhaps you're doing the assuming here ;-)

Really? where are your stats for that?

Look end of the day, I get it, you don't like large phones, but as I said, you don't need to buy them either so no harm done? unless you're looking to ban large phones just because you don't like them and feel they shouldn't be available for anyone?

Actually you’d be wrong assuming I don’t like large phones as I used to own a number of Note models more that I think phones have got too large.

well no point us saying the same over and over but SOME phones have become larger not all, hence you have the choice as to which size you buy as do I. It's just a non-issue

I don't think these forums affect business decisions and trends of manufacturers across the board. Apple and Android OEM's have all made bigger phones as the years tick by. The iPhone 6s had a 5.5" screen or something like that and now the smallest iPhone 14 uses a 6.1" screen. iPhone mini is being phased out because of lack of sales and there was no mini Pro.

All of the OEM's including Apple reserve their best features and hardware for the largest phones and charge accordingly. Pro Max is not cheaper or the same price as the Pro and it usually has the best battery life of the two.

Personally because I use my phone a lot and for multiple uses the bigger the better. I remember when HP tried to make a 7" Android phone back many years ago and it was so huge. The appeal of foldable phones is having a screen like tablet in a smaller form factor.

I do understand that people would like to have a high spec smaller device and I don't see why manufacturers aren't capitalizing on that market. But I think the physics are part of it. The more features they pack into the phone the more demand on battery and it is a lot easier to make a bigger phone with a bigger battery with a bigger screen than a smaller phone with all the same features and battery life.

I do agree that Samsung is cheaping out on regular s23 and plus consumers and trying to push customers to the biggest and most expensive phone. There is no reason the s23 plus can't have the same camera system and screen tech that is in the Ultra and I would prefer the plus with a 6.6" flat screen and quad hd screen and better cameras over an Ultra. Even at the price point for the plus it could be done. Kind of greedy on Samsung part.

But I don't see the ultra as a bad phone or too big. It is the throw everything in phone. The toolbox phone that does everything and has everything. I don't think that Samsung could make a smaller Ultra without significant compromise.

Personally I don't get the big interest in foldable phones. I think the compromises made are way too much for me to ever even consider them. Plastic screen which would drive me nuts because it would be so easy to scratch. Glass scratches easy enough but plastic -forget it. A huge crease in the middle of the display would also drive me nuts. My ADHD would hyper focus on the crease and I would never enjoy the phone. Worse battery life. Worse cameras. Having to open the phone all the time to use it because the outer screen is too small. Bigger and bulkier than the ultra. No thanks. BUT I don't complain that Samsung seems hell bent on making foldables the new premium phone? I thought the ultra was expensive? It seems like Samsung will be pushing premium customer more and more to a fold and will at some point neglect the ultra.

Might as well just push for what you want rather than complain about a trend you can't control. People are not as receptive to criticism vs. saying there is still a market for a premium device in a smaller form factor. Maybe they could make a smaller Ultra one day? I bet it would be a big hit too because I bet a lot of people would like the same functionality of the ultra in a 6.1" phone.

Yeah I think my anger is more at the lack of well featured compact Android phones. I’d love to see the Ultra feature set in a smaller phone. I could own an Ultra but I could never use it as my main because I regard it as two handed use only and that’s inconvenient for me day to day these days. I think Apple & Samsung both have an over focus on bigger is better.

well they have a focus on more advanced features = being able to charge more and currently to do that, they need the space of the larger bodies.

Then todays tech gets smaller and gets put into smaller bodies.

Eventually, there's usually a step change in manufacturing/materials which results in state of the art tech being radically smaller and then instead of best tech is in our big phones, they circle round to "best tech in a tiny form factor you can slip in your pocket! smallest ever"

As I say, those who have watched the tech industry for too many years now, realise how cyclical it is :) Large is best today maybe but soon as they're able to do something different, it'll be "oh you dont want THAT huge thing, get ours it's smaller/lighter than theirs"

Definition of compact has changed a lot over the years, but the base S23 has almost all the features of the Ultra. Also the Zenfone 9, Xperia 5, and Pixel 6a are good compact Android phones. There are always some trade offs going smaller since there is a smaller battery and less room for mega cameras, but these are all good phones.

I LOVE seeing people's home screen and all the customisations etc :) inspiring!

anyone else got a good home screen?
Thank you, I haven't had it long so this is the first go, it's been a couple of years since I had an Android and I will be customising it further. First impressions are brilliant, love the cream colour and the screen is fabulous.

You can always go here to get some inspiration.

But to echo your thoughts.. it would be dope to see S23 users post their setups in that thread.

My man...you carry around an ipad pro and ZF4 right? 😂 See I just can't see lugging my ipad around everywhere.

I have to carry two phones. My work line rings non stop. If I didn't have a separate line/device to filter all the work calls and texts to I'd have to shut down my only means of communication once I get home. I have a do not disturb schedule set on my ZF4 for 6pm to 5am so I can get some quiet time. Currently running the S23U on the personal. It's not too inconvenient carrying those two around other than the thought of my beloved Pixel 7 Pro sitting in my nightstand drawer at home 😬
