So pleased with my graphite model.

I will say I'm glad I got a case though as its like a bar of soap without it. I also find that the bottom corner really digs into my hand without it. I'm sure my s22 never felt like that.

Battery life is amazing. Used the phone as normal throughout the day today. Off charge at 6am and right now it's 9pm ish and I am still on 69%. I'll take that!
After using my S23 Ultra for 2 days and then deciding to travel with just my IPhone 14 Pro Max for a day, I’ve decided that it’s time to move on from Apple. Can’t wait to put my main e-sim in the Ultra. Going to sell my Apple Watch Ultra and stop using watches. They’re just annoying and gave me more connected than I’d like. My MacBook Air just connects dust. That’s going too. My work Lenovo laptop will be just fine.
Wow! I have the last day today to decide whether ultra or ip14 pro… probably as predicted will chicken out and go safe way🤷

I've done it in the UK with zero problems but we do have consumer laws over here which means we have a basic right to return stuff within a certain time period even if we just change our minds.

...but yeah, samsung were brilliant tbh

ps. sounds like you're really not getting on with the screen then :(
I’m glad to hear it went smoothly for you. I’m possibly going to give it a try. I may try again another time if I do return this one.

I think it’s the luck of the draw and a bit of display lottery here. My S23 Ultra panel is not defective by most standards but it’s just not as good as the one on my S22 Ultra.

Off axis color shift is proving hard for me to get used to. My iPhone and my S22 Ultra have more stable, uniform white from top to bottom and side to side. There’s also an odd “pearlescent” quality I’ve seen before on other phones that I just don’t get on with.

It just looks like a cheaper panel. And I’m paying more than $1000 even with the trade in. The $150 preorder bonus frankly is something I don’t mind giving up this time. All I did was buy cases. Yeah I’ll miss them if I get another S23 Ultra without bonus credits, but I’m using the clear case my husband got me with his purchase anyway.

That lavender just needs to be seen, lol. I’m going to be keeping it in clear cases most of the time.

I plan to get another one if I return this one. But I may wait awhile. Between the lifting up corners some people are reporting and the fact both my husband and I got panels inferior to those on our S22 Ultras, the display lottery may have odds stacked against us right now.

Yeah even my husband who is not sensitive to display disparities said his S22 Ultra panel looked better.

At equal settings, my S22 Ultra display is brighter and just looks better all around.

I’m paying for an upgrade and in this one aspect, there’s a visible downgrade.

And yes I do have a ripping headache and I didn’t have one until I tried reading an article on my S23 Ultra. 😢

Edit: I’m borrowing my husband’s s23 Ultra. His display is actually better than mine. It has off axis color shift but there’s just a better uniformity overall to his display. So there IS hope for me with this phone I just have to play a display lottery I guess.

Oh I am afraid I’m a Note girl. I scribble notes to myself on the Ultra/Note a lot.

I went ahead and initiated a return and got my return authorization and label.

If I get another one I’ll probably stick with the lavender color. I’m already going to miss it a lot.

I’m going to Best Buy to pick up a PlayStation 5 I got for the game room we’re building. I’ll try to see more phones there in person and see what the situation is with these displays in general.

With regards to the 45W Super Fast charging, does the supplied cable provide that (5A) or is there a special USB C - USB C cable that is needed to connect to the 45W plug?
Seeing conflicting advice on this and it would be good to know.

Yes the cable that comes in the box isn't capable of 45W super fast charging. You'll need one that is 5A from Samsung or a third party.

Yeah the entire save the planet with no charger in the box is just a greedy money grab. Spend $1200 or more on an Ultra and no charger.

As Flossy Carter says the entire presentation is trash. Cheap small box and no charger for a $1200 phone. Just trash.

I just don't understand why Samsung always follows Apple's lead when Apple does stupid stuff like no charger in the box.

How many people have phones with a 45 watt fast charger? Samsung should at least give us the option to have it included if we want without charging us extra for an accessory. I don't consider a charger an accessory and for the price of the ultra a fast charging brick should be included.

Okay, rant over.

I actually don’t know anything about gaming consoles anymore. We have an ancient X Box and a PlayStation 2 and a Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64. I’m not sure all of them are still in use.

Because of sports and other activities, gaming hasn’t been super popular among the kids in our “circle of existence” or whatever you want to call it. It’s been mostly the Switch or Fortnite on iOS when that was available. Basically gaming had to be a portable experience to fit into active lifestyles. But the later part of high school has been more settled. And some of their high school friends do some pc gaming and console gaming.

I quit gaming years ago, unless you count Animal Crossing on Switch. My husband and I don’t have the time.

It embarrassing to admit this, but I wasn’t awake when I bought it. Since January, I host a feral cat for dinner and overnight stays. But she wants to be let out anytime between 5-6 am. I’m not used to waking up at 5 am on Sundays. Unfortunately she woke me up and I was only awake enough to verify she wasn’t any of my actual cats who live full time with us before I let her out.

I got on my phone to read myself back to sleep. I ended up on an article about a new Harry Potter game. For some reason I badly wanted to preorder it. But the preorder goodies are only for the PlayStation and PC versions or something. So I pulled up PlayStation 5 and read a very short article about it. I like VR gaming and saw there would be a VR gaming rig available in the future.

I went to Amazon to look at them and could only register for an invitation to buy one. I registered. Then I went to Best Buy and they had some available to order, so I poked my husband on the shoulder and said I was going to order one. He woke up just enough to say, “Fine, whatever”.

So I ordered it. Then I went and ordered the Harry Potter game.

And that’s how I bought a PlayStation 5. I can’t wait to try the VR rig announced for it. I’ll have to preorder that.

The kids are confused. My husband is amused. And I am bemused.

We all blame the cat.

Edit: We were going to get a new console anyway for the game room. That’s just how I arrived at a PlayStation 5!

Sigh. Cry.

I was looking up info on the displays and this may explain why I’m not doing well on the new display. Apparently they made it more like an iPhone display. I may be completely screwed going forward. I just took a mix of Tylenol and Aspirin by the way.

I am so sick of Samsung copying Apple and now this. But I guess it explains why battery life is so good and that definitely needed improvement.

You might regret that in the long run. People always feel this way in the honeymoon phase then quickly regret it once they actually make the move from IOS. My suggestion if you can is to keep both. I have the S22U and an iphone for that reason.

Exactly. Lurking awhile and decided to trade in my Pixel 7 at Best Buy for the (regular) S23. Switched back to Verizon last month after hearing about T-Mobile's latest data breach and want mmWave again, so figured to just do it. I always get excited about Pixels / Galaxies and ultimately switch back to my iPhone.

Oddly enough I got calls from Chase this morning for several thousand dollars worth of fraudulent charges on my CC...wonder where that info leaked from...off-topic, T-Mobile had better get fined up the wazoo for this.

Well I am definitely keeping my S22 Ultra. Actually some of the low light photos on it have been a little better due to less saturation. I still think the S23 Ultra is overall an improvement.

I just wish my S22 Ultra were lavender lol. And that it has 1 TB of storage. I’ve used around 215 GB of storage so far. I wanted more breathing room to play around with higher quality settings.

My husband said I should keep the S22 Ultra to read on and use the S23 Ultra for everything else. I just gave him a shocked Pikachu face.

I already have too many phones. That’s insane. Nope.

Even if I didn’t have to worry about migraines, it is just annoying that my $1000 plus upgrade bought me a display that aesthetically looks worse. Off axis blue shift this bad is something I thought we left behind with the Pixel 2XL.

Someone on a Twitter thread about this mentioned supply chain issues possibly affecting blue emitters. I honestly didn’t quite follow that discussion. I just know what looks good and what doesn’t.

I’m going to wait awhile. The temptation is there to try and preorder while the opportunity is still there but my odds don’t look good right now. I can hope something changes. But I’m not holding my breath.

There IS one more thing I can try. The S23 Ultra has a special setting to boost brightness regardless of your brightness setting. It comes with the warning that it consumes battery faster. Maybe this turns off the buttholery that’s messing with my vision.

But the S22 Ultra has the same setting. So again, I’m not getting my hopes up. And it still doesn’t fix off axis blue shifting. Nothing I’ve tried fixes that, though some settings make it less noticeable than others.

yep completely agree with that.

Like you, I'm willing to put in the time messing with settings and so on... to a reasonable degree, but if at the end it still doesn't look right then there's no point just living with it for that amount of money.

There is a chance that some of the issues that you have with the display may get tweaked with a software update over time. Since it is a new display for Samsung odds are they are still dialing in the display to get it right?

I am sorry to hear about your experience. Seems like new phones aren't working out for you this year. The Pixel 7 Pro and the s23 ultra.

Unfortunately tech is a moving target and manufacturers are always using new technology to enhance battery life or some other features.

You have a 30 day return policy with Samsung? Maybe cancel the return wait another week or two and see if anything changes. Then if not, you can still go ahead with the return?

There is also a chance that you got a bad display. You said your husband's is better but still has some issues too. It is not uncommon for initial productions runs to have problems so maybe you could call Samsung and explain the situation and ask for an exchange with an extended return window in case you still have the same problems?

I don't know how some of you find adequate time for each phone you own, I certainly haven't found much time for my Fold 4 that much since getting my S23 Ultra.

Very difficult lol iPhone is my personal, s23 ultra is what I mainly use at work and on my break etc. pixel 7 pro has took a back sit but using it today made me realise why I enjoy it. So yeah certain devices take a backseat
