I’m watching an Amazon Prime movie on my S23 Ultra. The last movie I watched gave me a bit of eye strain. So I went into settings and changed the settings and I’m fine now. I would never use these settings for anything else but for the movie it made a positive difference. I’m just glad Samsung gives us so many options. I think Apple does too but you have to wander all over the menus to find them all!
That's the bit I suggested earlier you should be able to set up a Bixby routine to automate your settings for your movie time

Although by the sound of that film just a blank screen would be good LOL

I've been using my S22 for a week, so I thought, OK I think I'll switch to the 14 pro max again. I have to go through Verizon, and last time I think it took them 2 hours. Someone told me its faster when you switch back to IPhone. I don't know why the chat takes so long. I just closed the window after 45 minutes. I'll just keep using my S22 ultra. Verizon needs to make the process easier. I've heard T-mobile only takes 10 minutes to switch.

I just finished the movie. I took so many breaks to do chores. The volcano didn't have nearly as much to do as I did.

I saw lots of people doing incredibly stupid things. And a lot more people yelled "Aaaaaaaggghhh!" but were okay. And then there was an avalanche and then one bad relationship ended in an unnecessary but cathartic death because the father/husband was written as a two dimensional jerk and the other bad relationship continued with even more snark but the promise of a shared vacation. Somewhere in all of that mess a baby was born. The end.

If I spoiled the movie for anyone, you're welcome. 🤣

I am keeping the S23 Ultra, I packed up my iPhone 14 pro and Apple Watch Ultra and sold them today. Both fabulous devices, I just have more fun with the S23 U. As for iMessage and WhatsApp, all my family except me now have iPhones and we all used WhatsApp. Blue or green bubbles don't bother me either way. My son works in the US, the rest of us are in the UK.

Just curious where you sold it at?

Wow Apple Insider endorses the S23U Ultra
Raves about how the S23U beats the iPhone

I think if I could have only one, I would try to find a way change my Apple ID accounts to regular ones and have my friends just text me using regular sms and go with the S23 Ultra at this point. They managed to get the battery life to where I needed it to be. That was the sticking point on my s22 Ultra. Lol but of course it's in part due to the new OLED I keep grumbling about not being as perfect looking and easy on my eyes as my S22 Ultra OLED.

But I can have two, so I don't have to go that far.

I switched back to my Fold 4 for the work week and wow it feels like I when I went to the iPhone 13 mini. It feels so small compared to my S23U lol. This weekend though I'm pulling out the S23U for the night out.

So I was reading up on the loddr5 and ufs 4.0 that most reviewers just kind of skip over but these are huge improvements. Guess who makes them? If you guessed Samsung you would be right.

Ufs 4.0 is twice the read speeds and over double the write speeds with a close to 50% less power draw.

Lpddr5x is also about 30% faster than lpddr5 at the same power draw.

Couple that with a more efficient processor that is also faster and a more efficient yet brighter screen and you can see why these phones are so fast and have better battery life.

These are pretty big improvements across the board with a 30% faster cpu and if I remember correctly 60% faster gpu.

No wonder the s23 ultra is so much better than last year. So this is why I never listen to people telling me that there is no difference between the s22 and s23 ultra. They really don't know what they are talking about.

Oh and I forgot better speakers and faster charging, better modem, Bluetooth and wifi 6e.

FYI, seems Google FI has stopped the $600 and went to monthly credits on the devices now. Unsure if that is a permanent change or just for the time being. At least I got in on the deal while it lasted. Phone got delayed for delivery now till Friday. :(

I genuinely don't want to carry two phones so I'm doing what you said above.

tbh with airmessage, iMessages are a non-issue for me at the moment. The last iMessage holdouts don't even seem to realise I'm not on an iPhone and everyone else is on whatsapp now.

I know there are always niggles that we can point out but I'm truly blown away by the S23u and for us in the UK, finally getting the decent cpu instead of the exynos thing has made a big difference.

Of course apple could come back strongly with the 15 but the more I use the S23 the more I'm irritated by the iphone when I try it!

Well glad my trade in went to Tennessee. It was receives and accepted already overnight!
That's a relief! I'm closer to Tennessee than I am to Texas. I wonder how we ended up having to ship to Tennessee. I'm afraid I don't have any updates on my own situation since my husband is handling it and he's remarkably unbothered. He says worst case scenario everything is covered by insurance on our credit card.

In other news I just had to quickly snap photos of my daughter in her costume for an event at her school. It's dark and cloudy here so the light from the window was poor. My S23 Ultra nailed the photos. To my dismay the 14 Pro Max was blurry because she or I must have moved slightly!

How the tables have turned!

Also, I took this phone off the charger yesterday morning and infamously watched that volcano movie on it and reading some news articles and it's at 43% battery right now!

I love this phone.

it's really weird.... I wanted to take a photo in near darkness the other day and I normally just grab the nearest iphone because I know how it works and what to expect, but I grabbed for the s23u.

With imessage taken care of and google photos working great, I'm kinda out of the ecosystem now!

Last remaining things for me to do:-
1. MFA authenticators... this is ALWAYS painful
2. find a replacement for notes (I use Exchange notes which sync nicely to apple notes.... to fully swap I need to find the best android notes app which has windows and web app companions) and of course it'd be stupid to ignore the wonderful spen with that choice....

but notifications now tamed (and I actually now miss the display of outstanding notifications when I go back to the iphone), imessage sorted, photos moved over.... PRETTY much there!

I don't have an interest in iPhone 15 because I've honestly wanted to settle down for awhile and the 14 Pro Max I happened to end up with ticks all the boxes. Previous iphones all had some fatal flaw I was trying to ditch.

Yeah, using iMessage with email Apple ID provides the same experience as the using the number.

I don’t use AirMessage, but I’ve been using iMessage via the iPad for years without any issues.

I think I can honestly say that the s23 ultra is the best Android phone yet made.

The Pixel 7 Pro takes a completely different approach than the s23 ultra and although it doesn't have all of the cutting edge hardware deserves an equal place when you consider the cost difference. Both phones are extremely closely matched and both I would argue are better than the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max.

I still give the edge to Samsung though as even though it cost more you certainly get what you pay for. I think the hardware in the s23u is simply the best. The tech packed into the s23 ultra had to cost Samsung more than the previous generation to manufacturer and that is why I think the trade in value wasn't as good as in the past. I forgive Samsung because they had to make up for the increased cost of production and didn't raise the price.

As I stated in a previous post literally everything in the s23 ultra is cutting edge. The ddr5x ram, the ufs 4.0, the cameras, the screen, the speakers, the processor, all of them have been seriously upgraded over last year. Just because Samsung didn't do a major redesign most of the reviews missed the most important aspect of the upgrades. Personally I really appreciate that Samsung focused on improvements internally and the components of the phone rather than just slapping a new design and calling it a day.

Also One UI essentially has Stage Manager with Dex that works better and ram management that allows us to use some of that fast UFS storage for extra ram when needed. No other mobile phone can do this that I know of and this feature of OneUI 5 is often missed. This is the first time I really feel like I could use the s23u as an all in one device if I needed. I could run it on a monitor and use it like a Chromebook, I could use it as a tablet with the large rectangular display and of course I can use it as a phone. It has a great camera set up for content creation with a fast GPU to edit the video.

Gaming is also excellent.

I love the squared design with the thicker edges. I like aluminum armor over stainless steel because it is lighter while still being strong and has better scratch resistance than just regular aluminum.

The battery life is finally excellent for a heavy user like me.

Updates will continue for 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates.

Call screening is finally on a non Pixel phone. Not even Apple offers this.

Then there is the spen which I can use as a remote shutter to take photos away from the phone to capture nice family shots.

One UI is smooth and fast. I can customize everything I want in this phone from using a jpeg as my lock screen to using a jpeg on my always on display. Colors are themed to match my wallpaper. No other phone can do this.

So with all that said I think Samsung deserves some credit for the changes they have made. There is still more bloat than I prefer but with 512gb storage I am not too worried.

iPhone has some catching up to do. And as a happy Apple Mac and iPad user I have to give up some functionality. As a person whose family uses iPhones I have to give up some connectivity. I think those compromises are worth it for now because the s23 ultra is so good and there are work arounds for any stumbling blocks. If I was primarily a Windows user with a Samsung tablet and earbuds I would have found the perfect combination. Luckily I have a Windows PC and Samsung buds and tablet so I can take full advantage of the Samsung ecosystem.

I won't leave my Mac probably ever but if cost was my primary concern I have excellent alternatives that cost on average half or way less than half of the Apple products without any degradation in quality or usefulness. Maybe less battery life on my Windows laptop but it is not so much that I couldn't get by. I am just waiting for Intel to finally get on 7nm or even 4nm which seems to be taking Forever and then I think the hardware will be better matched. For now Apple has a better OS, better hardware in general and better speed and efficiency across devices with better interconnectivity but that gap keeps getting smaller.

Wonderfully stated. Another benefit I've noticed with the S-Pen it's that it saves my thumb from aching at the end of the day. Many times I'll just use it to navigate my phone.

I’m probably switching to the S23 (or 24) Ultra later this year or early next year. iMessage has kept me on Apple until this point, but I don’t care anymore. I’ve gotten everyone that matters to switch to Telegram. So I won’t be missing much.
