So in other words you don’t care if it effects a certain percentage of people, which appears to be exactly the same attitude taken by Samsung.
Look in the iPhone threads and you will see Apple has the same issue. Heck there are people in this thread that have posted they have PWN issues with their iPhone 14 and the S23U. Or is your disdain company specific here?

Dammit man I’m sad to say I left Fi and initiated the return for the S23 Ultra.

Freaking sucks cause I was ready to go all in but the watch 4 classic was the dealbreaker for me. It wasn’t the hardware at all and the watch faces were dope but my mistake was using the watch side by side with my  WATCH on my wrist. I was shook at how many of the apps I had on my  WATCH weren’t available for the watch 4. I mean big players like yelp, Starbucks, 1 password, duo mobile. I’m bummed cause I was completely ready to switch and I don’t want to do the whole workaround to use my  WATCH with it. Oh and the music app were atrocious. Spotify sucks donkey dong and YT music was a joke I added some artists to the phone app and they didn’t show up at all on the watch app.

I also was ready to buy the Pro 5 and return the 4 cause that watch in gray titanium is sexy AF but the software is what killed it for me.

Damn you Google and developers for not supporting wearOS. *shakes fist*
Ah, bummer. Sorry to hear that. I mostly am addicted to Apple watch for all the information I have displayed on the modular watch face and for haptic turn by turn prompts when I'm driving.

I am too easily distracted by my passengers and can miss audio cues so it's become essential to me to feel prompts on my wrist to know when to turn. It's been a long time since I had a non Apple watch but as far as I know the Samsung watches don't do that.

Is that true? Or can you get haptic feedback now in conjunction with turn instructions and lane change prompts?

Apple Maps are also really accurate where I live because their little vans were all over the place mapping everything a few years ago. Not a whole lot has changed since then.

At any rate I can understand how the Apple Watch, like iMessages, can be a sticking point for some of us.

I don't hate my iPhone but at home it usually now just sits and I'm using my S23 Ultra. I'm getting all my pet photos and most are keepers now. Some come out looking like stunning portraits. I also appreciate the phone just feels more comfortable to hold.

I saw this informative tool from Google over on an article at Android Central. I think it's for developers and not for laypersons like me. But it's part of an article on how Google is trying to reduce problems on apps in the play store.

That pic of your cat is amazing!!

I watched a YouTube video yesterday that showed the haptics for turn by turn directions on the galaxy watch.

I could have dealt with not having certain apps if the music apps had been halfway decent (using music app on my watch is a top priority for me) but Spotify and YT music were horrible.

LMAO I know. I try to give Android a shot every year and just keep getting disappointed in one way or another. I truly loved the Ultra and wanted the 5 pro.

I’ve used a watch for so long and I can’t see myself without one so that’s why I’m bummed.

Thanks! This time I was ready to go all in, Android was a breath of fresh air I was just shocked at the watch experience.
It's all about what works best for you. Nothing wrong with that. Google and Samsung have a long way to go and need to put in more effort on WearOS to catch up with the Apple Watch. I love the Samsung watch hardware and even the UI however the app support and health and activity tracking come up very short. I imagine there's a lot of people who stick with Apple because they love the watch and don't want to have two phones.

Oh thank you for letting me know there’s now haptics for turn by turn on the Galaxy Watch. I’m not sure I’ll ever completely ditch Apple. I mean it’s not yet necessary when I keep two lines open. But I want a more even playing field among my options. There needs to be more feature parity and true competition.

Apple proves time and time again they’re willing to hit the snooze button on their iPhone development when they don’t have enough competition. And that’s perfectly normal business. I don’t fault them for it. I just want them to keep bringing it and not have to wait 2 to 3 years to get a desired feature.

Oh I forgot, about the cat photo, first, thanks for the compliment. And I can get photos like that on my 14 Pro Max, but I notice the colors tend to be harsher. The contrast and sharpening is a hair too much. I’m still learning to work with RAW and I rely too much on full manual with the pets. So I’m still not sure which of the phone cameras is going to be best in my eyes. But right now I’m loving the S23 Ultra results on full auto.

DC dimming is not perfected yet. Some companies like OnePlus and Realme have experimented with it and allow people to enable it in advanced settings. I've personally used it on a OnePlus 7 Pro way back when. The problem is at lower brightness settings, like 50% or lower, it really distorts colors. I'm not an engineer, but I think I read that it's due to power regulation and OLED, and that OLED (at least the tech behind phone OLED screens) needs PWM in order to maintain color accuracy? Or something to that effect.

Putting my corporate hat on, you bet Samsung doesn't care. They aren't going to miss the 1% of people who don't buy their phone because of this. Same for every other company. Putting my normal person hat back on, yes it really sucks and I hope it changes once a different tech supplies our phone screens. I *hate* OLED with a passion and feel it should never have been a thing. I've yet to buy an OLED TV, never will, and can't wait until OLED phones are replaced.

LG and a couple other manufacturers are just now catching up to LED TVs with their OLED peak brightness. At the same time Mini LED is emerging and should hopefully put an end to OLED. It's already starting. Sony and Samsung's Mini LED TVs are incredible. I digress...

Just having breakfast in Lahaina and the humpback whales started putting on a show. The zoom on this camera is so impressive. My 14PM and Pixel 7 Pro would not have been able to capture this nearly as well

Very impressive and the stabilization is really unmatched when zooming like that!

Have great time! drive to the volcano. It is worth the drive. Just dress warm!

Why would anyone want oled tvs to end? Actually oled tvs are ones with no pwm while miniled ones use pwm🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂

I went off on an irrelevant tangent haha. My issue with OLED TV is that the peak brightness until recently hasn't been great, there is still image retention risk, and the automatic backlight brightness fluctuation / limiter that I've seen in the past is distracting. But yes the TVs are flicker free for the most part I think. Phone OLED tech isn't the same especially when it comes to PWM.

Well, burn in is no issue with last models, and brightness is sufficient as well (especially panasonic top range oleds with patented heat sink are fantastic). honestly, i cant see abl while using my middle tier oled tv and again, top tier with heatsinks are even better.. and as i said, today oked tvs are only tvs that are “flicker free“, blessing for ones eyes;)

I mean it could just be a "bad panel" but I got burn in on my LG oled from a couple of years ago..... so bad that even the LG generated mute icons and things like that burnt in. LG not interested at all :(

Thankfully my newer sony seems to be ok (so far)

Wow when I zoom on the screen I can really see those whales very well! So exciting! Thank you for sharing this. I don’t know if I’ll ever see a sight like this in person but sometimes I can see dolphins so I’m going to try to get a video like this, this summer.

No doubt in great lighting it is the best out there currently. Maybe changes in the next few months but right now it's market leading.

I think the only minor complaint I have about this phone so far is battery life. Yeah I know everyone says it's comparable with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but I'm only getting 6-7.5 hours SOT where on the iPhone I was getting closer to 10. Not sure if there's a setting that I should adjust to get more time.

On the flip side, charging is so much faster on this phone that it kind of makes up for it.

I'm definitely getting 10 or more. But I don't tend to run it very bright, roughly 1/4 of the brightness bar during the day. And I use web based vs apps for things like Twitter and Amazon Prime. Duck Duck Go browser seems to kill things that try to drain batteries on web sites. I also close my apps when I leave the phone to sit.

I hope you're able to find the source of the drain. Have you tried looking at what's eating most of your battery? And do you run the optimizer from time to time?
