Why not both a SD card and 128gb onboard memory? I use a SD card to add additional GBs. I store my music and photos on there. You know some phones don't need a pin to remove a SD card, right? My dad's Revvl requires someone to remove the back cover. It's pretty easy.

Samsung knows it’s target market better than I do. But I think the number of people who actually use more than 128 GB on a smartphone is so small that it doesn’t justify the added cost of an SD card slot. Just have 128 GB and 256 GB models and be done with it.

For the use cases that have been described here so far, it seems to me that there are easy work arounds of either using cloud based storage and/or alternative file transfer methods.

When I buy a new phone, I just pop my new card in and I'm ready to go, there's no need for me do a 50GB cloud download or do a backup from home.
How is anyway easier than that for me?
I get what you're saying though, it's just my usage case works for me, and my SD card was free with my phone.

Oh bugger, that's it for the option to flash a different (and better supported) region's official firmware it seems. Well, this also means that I'm scratching the S9 off my list. Can't deal with the flaky NEE support as they've dropped the ball once again. The latest security updates for my S8+ are from November.
Advance notices to beta testers UK and elsewhere point toward Oreo rolling out. In days.

I've gotten two updates this month and a January security update plus to plug this Intel holes.

S9+ will have Treble, 4GB and of course SD845. possible Iris + Face ID for better faster recognition, unlocking.

No such luxury here. The November patches were delivered at some point late in December and apparently it will be a long wait before the Spectre/Meltdown patches, let alone Oreo. This BS from Samsung means I'm most likely on my last Samsung device.

Unless Apple does something new and innovative, my next phone will not be Apple. I love the simplistic idea of the OnePlus, but really enjoy wireless charging on my 8 plus. So unless OnePlus does wireless charging I'm out. I really like the Note 8, but feel the proportions are off. To me it needs to be wider. Otherwise very nice phone. The X does not really float my boat. The cost, the stainless bezels, reminds me of a first generation iPhone. For now my 8 plus works fine. I will take my time and wait and see what is released. Chances are other manufacturers will be releasing new phones and leaks will be common, way before Apple does anything. Gives me a chance to wait and see, and make the best decision. If Apple's solution is to offer a X plus, then I am so over Apple at this point. So tired of the incremental updates and same old design. Bezels aside, nothing new.

Samsung has ways to go on the software side: less bloat, stronger support w/ more frequent updates, and avoid performance drop offs after several months or a year or so.

Until Samsung does that, I don't think I can choose them over the Pixel line if I return to Android. LG is lukewarm to me because their cheaper hardware & software =/= good experience since they have limitations on both software & hardware.

Suit yourself, but I find none of what you've described to be the case with the Note 8.

Samsung's software (today) is a good compliment to the Android experience, and the Samsung apps, such as their browser, are very well done. I find no bloat. I don't want updates before they are ready. I haven't had any bugs induced from updates and don't want to go through numerous attempts to get it right, as is the case with iOS. I've used the Note 8 for 6 months and seen no slow down or performance drop off.

Regarding phone width, I believe what is happening is that the current generation of smartphones is being designed to fit inside VR or AR headsets.

I’ve looked at the iPhone X next to the 8+ in the Apple store and I see the same thinking in the X’s design.

Personally, I do not like this. I do not like the proportions of the phones and I have no interest in putting one of those gangly devices on my head.

I will be very happy once someone designs a decent looking, stand alone VR or AR headset and phones can go back to more natural looking proportions.

It will cost half of the prize of the S9, better looks and probably the same specs.
have half the features.... have half the performance...half the consistency half the camera performance. Looks are subjective....I think the S9 Plus looks better myself.
Maybe you could start another thread about that phone? List all the features and availability and so forth?

I don't understand why the s9 mock ups are moving away from the bezel-less s8, did I miss something?

Almost every device I own has some type of microsd card support or SD card support and I prefer it that way as well......I would not buy a phone without it.....at least not for the next few years...

And anyone who has the S8, S8 Plus, or Note 8....you should wait till Fall to see what else Samsung has in store because the S9 and S9 Plus are not worth the switch in comparison to these phones. Best worthy new phone updates will happen Fall 2019.

I had the Note 5 and it always irked me that there was no SD.
It was still a good phone but data transfer was a pain in the jacksie.

The Note 8 is hands down the best Samsung device out and will be a better purchase over the S9 or S9+ imo. Ok, the battery life is less than the S8+ because of a smaller battery, but you can get many of the S9+ amenities with some solid deals occurring here and there. 6gb RAM and dual cameras are the biggest new offerings on the Note 8. The entry level S9 may not even have 6gb RAM.

Trying to decide if it's worth upgrading from an S8 to an S9 or waiting for the S10 or whatever they'll call it by then. I'm going to hold off from deciding until concrete/confirmed info flows in.

Not worth it as of now. I think the S8 will be a better device once Oreo comes out.

Maybe. I'll wait until it releases to make my decision.

How much do you want stereo speakers, a better placed fingerprint sensor, dual cameras, 2 extras GBs of RAM, a newer processor, having the newest Samsung software?

I’ll wait to see if they have trade in deals st the least.

If T-Mobile offers a “free S9+ with iPhone 8+ trade in” come the fall, I might be interested in Samsung’s products.
