So, anybody got this phone on their wishlist yet? I’ve liked the rumored incremental upgrades enough that I’m going to think about it.

I've purchased the S series for the past 4 years now but I think I might sit this year out. The Pixel 2 phones leave me not desiring to try another Android device til the Pixel 3.

That being said, I'm sure I'll bump my post in a few weeks stating I've pre-ordered the S9.
Lol, yeah we tend to do that around here.

My S8+ has been my favorite mistake. I often think I really never should have upgraded from my S7. The pink screen issue on my S8+ was a downer. The speed of updates was not that impressive. And it lags. The animations lag. The performance lags. It’s meh. And yet...I’ve had some incredible fun with it.

And I have to pause and remember what made me move on from the awesome Android phones I tried in 2016...stinky battery life...oh and a tendency to overheat.

Samsung seems to have licked that problem in 2017 as my S8+ is cool as a polar bear and has really good battery life. My husband begs to differ on that but we use our phones differently. In 2017 it was actually my iPhone 7 Plus that had poor battery life and a tendency to overheat.

I am really looking for some incremental improvements and if the rumors are true the S9+ will have the ones I’m looking for. It may be the Samsung I’ll be able to settle down with for a year and a half upgrade cycle.

I may not upgrade to a Pixel 3. It depends on how their trade in program works. Meanwhile, I can’t find anything I’m dissatisfied enough with to give up. I occasionally complain about the size of it but that’s about it. I don’t miss dual lenses as much as I thought I would. The Samsung-made display is solid. I think the frost white chassis is gorgeous. I have an automatic extended two year warranty on it. I’m going to get OS updates on it. I don’t know...it may be a keeper, for two years anyway.

Same with my iPhone. I’m loving what I have. I’m sick of giving Apple my money while they continue to actually remove features I like and care about. I will have to hurry in and buy a two year warranty, but that’s about it.

As to why on earth I’m on an upgrade path on three different phones, eh...y’all are bonkers, too, so it’s not like I need to explain that here.

The S9+ looks to be the best possible version of the S8+. 6gb of RAM and stereo speakers was all that device was really missing. I'm curious as to what this year's Note looks like. Generally the Note leapfrogs that year's flagships.

I might get this device if there are good deals for it. Not really expecting much from Samsung software wise though.

It's either S9+, Pixel 3/3XL, iPhone X 2017, iPhone 2018 LCD model, or whatever T-Mobile offers promos for. My iPhone 8+ is raring to be traded in or sold at some point.

I think we will all be happy when you just finally decide on a damn device. :D:p

Guilty as charged. *raises hand
I'm hoping one day I will just stop my wandering eye but I highly doubt that'll ever happen!

Another year, another S9+ with Snapdragon. I wonder if thee Snapdragon will be on par with the Exynos this year. I recall the S8 was the first time they were really close in performance.

Dont see any reason to Upgrade from a samsung galaxy s8,only if the camera is hugely improved.

I think it really is circumstantial for S8/S8+ owners. Depends how much you value the new features, hardware, and software. Plus the newer warranty. Without getting too personal, depends on budgets too.

If I lived in Europe, I would not upgrade to the S9/S9+ because their phones are so costly as it is. Same in Canada. A Pixel 2 costs $900 CAD. iPhone X is $1319 CAD. It's also before GSTs (sales tax).

If you offered me a Galaxy S8 for $400 USD and the S9 is $800 USD, the S9 better do a lot more worth $400 more to have me pay up the additional premium price.

I am content with using last year's model anyways. Which is why I am considering an iPhone X once it becomes clearance material. Same with the Pixel 2XL. I am not going to drop $500 or more on a phone period. No matter how hip it will be to walk around with a status or fashion statement.

For me....it is a worthy upgrade from the Note 8
I expect to see a little better battery performance from the 845
Better camera performance....maybe a LOT better...not that the Note 8 is lacking.
Much better FPS scanner location for sure!
Stereo speakers are going to be nice as well.
Mature and evolved Samsung Experience 9.0 and features.
Less pronounced curves on the sides.

Yeah I am pretty enthusiastic about it for all the reasons you list. I’m not expecting or wanting miracles or anything super revolutionary. My S8+ was almost what I was looking for...just not quite and on top of that I got a unit that was not the best quality example of that model. It happens.

There is a very strong possibility my iPhone 8 Plus will lose its sim to the Samsung. And I will switch to my Pixel 2 with my Android phone number and give that number out to my contacts for calls and messaging. I’ll explain more in the Pixel 2 thread. There are issues with this decision to my reliance on Apple Watch. So I’m not sure I can do this while I am so involved in school life. Sorry I digress. I’ve been up late and the coffee isn’t helping.

I’ll just conclude by saying I hope the new purple color gets released in the US. And I worry the new Exynos is too far better than the Snapdragon and Qualcomm is holding us North Americans back. What have you all been reading about that?

I am just not hardcore like you guys/gals, I couldnt image using two phones all the time! I have a preference of the os I like so that would narrow it down to one only for me and even then I wouldnt like swapping between devices if I didnt have preference

I understand. There was a time I had a hard time just carrying around a plus sized iPhone. I went to an iPhone SE for the better part of a year. I can’t believe now I routinely drag around three phones without thinking twice about it. It’s like I’m a different person.

Even now it would drive me nuts to switch one sim between two phones. I did that and it was not ideal due to iMessage issues. I’m in awe of people who can do that.

And I won’t be rocking multiple phones indefinitely. It’s something fun I’m doing while I can still afford to. I probably have another two years I can do this.

It’s a fun hobby. I can’t really indulge in anything more time consuming or intensive. Like I have friends into flying drones and they go to meetups to fly. I can’t do that though I want to. There’s raising up a family and all that entails. My parents and in-laws health issues require my husband and me and a sister-in-law to put our lives on hold and be on-call all the time, which is fair since they all did a ton for us over the years. But it kind of limits what mischief we can get into. Playing around with the new shiny phones is about all we can manage these days. I feel bad we had to cut way back on our involvement with our nieces and nephews and their kids.

Seems like a big solid MEH to me, and they are charging more for what is essentially the same as the S8 in almost all aspects. The FP sensor is in a good spot but this isn't an upgrade, it's just a fixing of the DUH placement last year. I've been pretty happy with my iPhone X that IMO leapfrogged the S8 (and seemingly the S9) in design with no bottom bezel, and virtually no top bezel as it doubles as the status bar. I'm still hating the infinity display and the loss of screen real estate due to the curved edges.

I'm not going to spend that a mount of money on a Samsung when you know the S10 will be the one to get. Going for T2 Pro instead, never seen such thin bezels on a smartphone.

Wouldn't trust that phone because of the software. I am really rooting for Google's Android One and Android Go platforms to do well. They can offer revised GPE devices with hardware and pure Android software.

If you're going to pay 700 dollars more just for that have fun. I actually don't care about a stock launcher. Customisation is all what matters . Also if you're scared of the software, it's Android you can use any rom you want to have.
