Thanks... I can't seem to find the settings. I hate having to ask questions like this in forums... but I've exhausted my Google searches. Would you mind mapping the nav steps in settings for me?
Here you go..

"First, head into the phone’s Settings by pulling down on the notification tray and tapping on the gear icon. Next, locate Display and select it. Inside, you should find an option to customize the Navigation bar.
In this submenu, find Button layout. Here, you will be presented with the two different orders in which you can choose to have your navigation buttons be in.
Additionally, in the Navigation bar submenu, you can also change the navigation bar’s background color and the amount of pressure needed to “hard press” the home button."

Similarly to what @jplusc just stated in his last post; I usually try out the newest Sammy device for a few days and return it. And usually I know in the first day or two that I’m not going to want to keep it. However, 2 days in with the S9+ and I’m really enjoying the experience.

After using the Pixel and Pixel 2 for the past 12 months Android has felt like a blank canvas begging me to paint it. But I’m finding the s9+ to already be painted in many useful and intuitive ways. The Edge App thing has become very useful to me. The software feels pretty clean to me and I’m even finding the stock launcher to be enjoyable. I had expected to slap Lawnchair Launcher on it within the first 10 minutes. But I like the Samsung launcher enough to keep it there for the time being.

I’m beginning to think that I may be switching to this phone full-time. Wireless charging, the useful UX features, the gorgeous screen, AND the fact that I can do Advanced Messaging on AT&T with this phone where I can’t on the Pixel 2; is quite possibly a winning combination for me.
I’m on AT&T, too, and the fact that my S9+ is an AT&T model with full support for all of their advanced features is a factor keeping my sim in the S9+ and not back in Snowball the Pixel 2. I find that Snowball may occupy the same niche my iPhone SE does for my IPhone line, and that’s to be my small pocketable option when I need it. The fact that it can take kick-butt photos is just icing on the cake. I’m blessed and fortunate to be able to keep both, so I will. And they’re excellent enough I think they will meet my needs for at least two years going forward.

Regarding the S8+, I’ve got the stereo audio recording capability in sufficiently high quality that I was looking for from Samsung, that had been missing in my S8+.

All I ask is that this device remain smooth and I can retire from upgrading annually. If it stays smooth, then I've found what I've been looking for in a smartphone ever since I went off course from the iPhone path in 2016 and amassed all these phones I've been testing.

Oh jeez I got interrupted so many times while trying to compose this text. I lost my train of thought. My daughter's iPhone is giving her absolute fits. Imessage and notifications are all messed up. She's missing texts from friends. She's getting notifications but no texts, too. Her iPad froze up, too. Some people have been bad hair days. We're having a bad device day.

So the VZW S9 Plus is demonstrably slower than the unlocked version, in my usage. It's especially noticeable when using the app switcher. I guess I'd chalk it off to "carrier bloat" but I'm not sure what could be running from VZW that would cause that.

IMO, I'd say it's due to the fact that they change the actual software (remove device maintenance and other Samsung stuff) than the VZW bloat. They are delivering a product that isn't even a "pure Samsung" experience. But yeah, after all the samsung's I've owned over the past few years, I'll pretty much only get the USA unlocked variant (with the T-Mobile variant right behind that).

Wow, AT&T does not mess with the software like that. They add some apps, many of which are actually useful for some people, but as far as I can see they don’t interfere with anything Samsung is offering or doing.

I took an interesting test photo with my main 3 phones. I hope I can get them to upload here. I’ve had mixed luck with uploads lately.

Crap. No go. Files are too large. Okay well let me go explore my options. I don’t want to link to my own Google account to here for privacy reasons so let me see how I can share photos going forward.

Huh. Didn't even think of that. Thanks for the explanation, makes perfect sense. And it's obnoxious as hell that Samsung allows that. I would think that Samsung has enough leverage at this point to be able to force carriers to dance to their tune, same as Apple.

Good luck with the S9, Aneres11! I'm gutted the Pixel 2 didn't work out for you, especially as I feel pretty guilty as I've literally had zero issues with my Pixel 2 XL and absolutely LOVE it!

I'm interested to hear how you get on with the S9, particularly as I came to to the Pixel 2 XL from a Samsung S7 Edge and, as of right now, I think I'd really struggle to go back to something that wasn't stock (or very close to) Android.

This is probably a silly question, but can anyone get badge count to work on Words with Friends? It's not working on my S9 and I have looked at all notification settings.

I am really enjoying my S9 but cannot figure out how to get the Bluetooth music to play automatically instead of switching my radio to the media button. My iPhone 8 just played automatically when I started playing Apple music. Anyone have an idea?

I have never played this game. Is this something you needed to transfer from your game on your old phone to the new one? I had a game progress on Sims Mobile on the 8+ that I needed to get on the 9+. I went into the game and found the options to connect to social media and log in centers like Facebook or Google Play Store. So on the old game I connected my game to Google Play Store. I just ticked an onscreen button that pretty much says it does that.

I made sure I was logged in to the Google Play store under the same Google ID that I used for the older device and game. I downloaded the game and when I loaded up the game on my new phone it gave me the option to load my game from the data under my Google ID.

Now if you’re bringing over game data from iOS I guess you’d need Facebook or something like that. I don’t know if your Google ID would help or not.

I hope this made sense. I had a kid babbling at me even though I was trying to excuse myself to answer your question.

GM - could you list out the features that you are referring to above? I’ve have my unlocked S9 on Sprint and I’m curious what I might be missing?

Mainly WiFi calling. Needed for some buildings my husband goes into but he wanted that feature for me, too because sometimes we rent beach condos that don't get any cell signal indoors. And VoLTE, and visual voicemail, though I do think I could get VV with an app for my unlocked Pixel. And then there's Hi Def Voice, I think it's called. That makes calls clearer between two At&T customers as long as both have access to the feature. At the very least my husband and I should be able to hear each other better. I would have thought we had that on our iPhones but for some reason calls to each other on our iPhones always stunk.

And then there's AT&T Messages which we haven't set up yet. That let's us get messages on our tables, iPads, computers through the phone number on our Android phones. It's something we wanted if we decide for some reason to leave iPhones altogether but would miss iMessage-like ubiquity across our devices. I can't vouch for how it works but we wanted the option. Or rather my husband did. I was willing to go with unlocked phones since I was used to that on my Pixel and HTC 10 but he had done a little digging around right up to the last minute we pre-ordered and opted to go with the carrier versions of the phone.

Is the Pixel 3 going to better than the S9/S9+? I really want the S9+, but damn they want way too much $ for it ($810 after tax). S9 seems nice, but too much of a compromise for $600. S8/S8+ are still so damn overpriced right now for one year old phones. Rather have pure Android over Samsung software nevertheless. Samsung hardware is the only reason why I am considering their Note 8, S9, or S9+. I want something I can use for 2+ years, has a warranty, and isn't more than about $600.

I guess it depends how you define better. The camera on the Pixel 3 will most certainly be better, I doubt the screen quality will be. It'll have the Snapdragon 845 like all 2018 flagships. I doubt it will blow the S9 away, if that's what you're worried about.

Unless Google changes things up, the Pixel 3 isn't going to dazzle you with features, it'll be the status quo and do it well.

OK, so I will post some thoughts about the S9.
All I will say before you read any further is, I returned the S9 earlier and (reluctantly) went back to an iPhone X.

I really liked the S9, but it was apparent quite quickly that I wasn't going to get last long term with it for a few reasons.

Firstly, I like but I don't LOVE the design of the Samsung S series. It's certainly one of the better looking phones right now, and I like that there's no notch (kudos Samsung), but I just don't feel any sort of instant attraction to it like I do with other devices.

Putting to that to one side though, there are bits I loved about it. The back of the device is gorgeous, love the blue and even the pink is nice. Not fussed on black.

Finger print scanner is finally in a decent position, and worked flawlessly. Glad they re-positioned it.

The screen is a strange one for me. I didn't really like it. I find Samsung screens a little bit neon. Retina burning almost. It reminded me of the OG Pixel I had which was the same - way way too over saturated. Obviously, take my opinion with a pinch of salt as most people love Samsung screens and think they're the best around.
I like that they give you the option to choose a style of screen though. I went for 'basic' (I think it was called that) which muted everything slightly, albeit then a bit too much.

After I set everything up, I noticed some lag. Bear in mind I've been using a Pixel (well, Pixels :p ) since January and they are sensationally fast.
The lag wasn't anything crazy, and nothing to put me off the device, but it was there. Just the odd little stutter and stammer in certain apps and moving around the OS.

I quickly learned that I don't like the Samsung design language. The on screen navigation buttons for instance, and the Samsung app designs - that line design? I really don't like it.
I also didn't enjoy the actual app designs in the stock launcher. They're a bit all over the place unless you add the background to the apps, but then I didn't really like that either. App icon packs are pretty hard to come by for the stock launcher too.

This morning, I downloaded a Pixel 2 launcher, and I kid you not the lag I was seeing intermittently (and rarely) just vanished. I had zero lag and slow down manouvering round the phone with a different launcher. It also looked so so much better. I could then choose the style of my icons and I ended up with something I was much happier with.
That extended to the app 'drawer' / tray or list (whatever you want to call it!).
I almost didn't like how the app tray could be amended like an iPhone - and you could move apps to where you wanted in the stock launcher. An alphabetical list is more preferential for me.

The orange notification button was a bit in your face - especially over things like Spotify which just looked strange. I know you can turn these off app by app (again, thank you Samsung) but it was just an odd setup.

With the Pixel Launcher I got those lovely dots - which I didn't realise how much I liked until I had them back!

I also like my app drawer with a white background, and with a lighter wallpaper, the Pixel 2 launcher gave me that. So much cleaner. :)

Beauty of Android though - you can have what you want essentially!

XGzWVvH.jpg

Battery life was abysmal for me today. I got 3 and a half hours screen on time and I needed my charger at home time. It's not Pixel 2 levels of bad with the problems, but it didn't seem right. I know thats not the 'norm' for this device, but it's worrying. I didn't help myself by cranking the screen resolution up, turning off auto brightness and using it most of the day, but it seemed like the battery could have been a bit better.
Still, I had only used it with one full charge so I wouldn't take my experience as much here.

I did like lots about it though - it's not all doom and gloom haha.
When my battery was draining, I had a notification to say that Instagram was using more battery than it should and it gave me an option to then fix this. Very nice.

Samsung's version of Android has some fantastic things thrown in. I don't think I even managed to scractch the surface with the additional benefits over stock but I will tell you my favourite thing and it almost made me keep te phone for it (you will all think it's crazy haha).
Listening to music. When I listen to music on my Pixel (or any other Android device), I detest the fact that the album artwork is not only then plastered all over your lock screen, but it's plastered in a magnified view which looks absolutely awful. I don't choose a nice lock screen wallpaper to have my music app (and it's all music apps - Spotify, Play Music etc) stretch the art work out over it.
It can't be turned off either, the only way around it is to disable all notifications for the app but then you lose the lock screen / notification tray playback controls.

Samsung though? Your lock screen wallpaper stays, and you just get the controls on it - along with the playback controls and artwork coloured box. THANK YOU SAMSUNG.
So so so much love for them doing this.

1g1fAsP.jpg

I hardly got to test the camera - sadly, as I didn't have it long enough. I took one snap just point and shoot on my walk back from the work canteen.

EZOmVrO.jpg

I only needed that to know that this was a truly fantastic camera. I know I'd have loved using this absolutely no question.

Then played about with the portrait style mode on my pink highlighter in the office lol.

yyxAGpZ.jpg

I tried this AR emoji. Quite frankly - it's creepy. Creepy is a word I've heard a lot of tech reviewers use in relation to this. I can't help but agree.

Here's mine...

NdDOKeN.gif

In fairness, it kinda got the hair right, and the eye colour and the stubble, but it's a bit weird!

Other things I liked, well I love that in the stock launcher you can swipe down from the screen anywhere to get into the notification shade thing. Really love that. It's not a big phone, so I wouldn't struggle pulling down from the top, but why bother shifting my grip slightly when Samsung have built that in. Again, thanks Samsung. For a phone like the Pixel 2 XL, stock could benefit from that kind of thing.

As always, the Samsung store for themes, wallpapers etc was lovely. Rivalling Sony's Xperia store for me if not slightly better.
That's the kind of additional stuff I really like.

All in all, the phone is brilliant. I can see why people love Samsung phones and prefer them over other Android devices. For me though, whilst it's brilliant in packing itself with useful OS features and handy extras over stock, it then loses a certain polish that stock brings.
Whilst it has certainly made me look at stock Android a bit differently now and wishing there were more Samsung esque features in it, I still would choose that over what Samsung currently offer every day of the week. But that album artwork is a huge one. Whoever at Android thinks this is still a great option and won't provide users with the option to at least disable it, needs firing immediately.

I personally think I could have continued to use the S9 and grown to appreciate it much more. But rather than do that, and enjoy it until the next new Android came to then sell it, I've decided to go back to iOS with the X where I know exactly what I am getting and where I know I will be happy.

Ideally, I'd still be rocking my Pixel 2, but there we are! Sorry for the longish post, I wanted to at least try and explain my very short time with the S9 and note a couple of thoughts seeing as I've not been a Samsung user for a while. Sometimes it's good to read from differing perspectives I guess! :)

My expectations are an iPhone X with Android. 6gb RAM, 845 processor, dual stereo speakers, best camera on the market, 2100 x 1080p OLED Samsung display.

@Aneres11 great review! While I couldn’t part ways with my X as my DD, I do love playing with the S8 I have. I have to say I 100% agree with you on Samsung’s music player on the lock screen (it’s absolutely gorgeous). I really wish Apple would adopt something similar (they went in the right direction with iOS 11).
