Its more about moving forward, as mobile devices become capable of such speeds it opens up more possibilities. You are right as it stands i don't need 1.2gbps, however Cloud computing is the future and those speeds are going to be the norm sooner rather then later.
Listen here buddy, don't you be coming around here with your sound logic and all that jibber jabber about the future, this is MacRumours.

I remember in the days around here of the 1st gen iPhone people asked why you would need 3G when EDGE was just fine

The more things change, the more they stay the same. ;) ......until Apple does it of course, then suddenly it's a must have.

Remember when 1GB RAM was just fine!? "Who needs more than that!!??" they said! Good times the irony around any sort of advancement in Android being put down around here when Apple eventually bring the same thing years later is hilarious.

"Who needs a screen bigger than 3.5inch!?" " "no one's going to buy that." They said...

Okay I'll stop
As you all were....

I just bought my wife the S9 to replace her aging S5 and man that is a hell of a phone and upgrade. I have a Note 8 and iPhone X but after setting up the S9 and using it I can say it really competes with the X.

The S9 is incredible.

It's a consumer-friendly device that has basically everything. Everything this phone checks off and all the features you get for the price also makes it one of the best values in the premium flagship space.

Samsung phone has been 'outgunned' in China and India, they have to make their products better in the rest of the world.

Almost 6 months after the S9 release, how is your device holding up? My cousin told me he wants a S9, but I said go Note 8 since the extra 2gb RAM will help.

He wants the dual aperature camera, newer processor, doesn’t care about the extra RAM, won’t use the stylus, and could benefit with the newer software.

I told him to also consider the Blackberry Key 2 LE since he is huge into a reliable business productivity phone too.

S9 plus has the dual aperture camera, not the regular s9. And the S9 plus has 6gb of ram like the note 8

Why not get the S9 plus, it comes with 6GB of ram and has all the features your cousin wants.

Is it possible to get 4-5 hrs SOT on the S9? I am curious since I warned my cousin about the S9 myself. Though, I'll be honest? S9 for $400 new wouldn't be a bad investment considering Samsung has some of the best hardware around and the market is offering such high priced devices with diminished returns.

I would only get the S9 worst case scenario if I needed a device with modern specs with a cheaper price tag. Though, I would rather get the LG G7 before a S9. That's a huge last case scenario since I am pretty much done with Samsung. I am zeroing in on the iPhone 9 or XS. Gotta see T-Mobile offers on trade ins.

I read its actually dual aperture on both devices. He didn't want 6gb RAM when I mentioned it since its an additional premium he doesn't feel is worth the price increase. I would pay the extra $100 myself if I were him since dual cameras, a bigger screen, larger battery, and 2gb RAM extra is worth the difference.

He doesn't seem keen on spending more than $400 and doesn't care for the extra hardware benefits since it is more of a want. He is looking for more of a need based approach.

I tried talking him into a Note 8 to get more RAM and the dual cameras with a larger battery.

Just had a bit of a play around I have to say One UI is actually fantastic, I'm surprised the idea of bringing all the buttons lower down on the screen hasn't been done by more companies with the big screen phone trend. Also love that Samsung have introduced Raise to Wake, can open the phone with out touching or swiping at all using the iris scanner.

I think the big difference on Samsung phones is one UI.
I see now gestures are added to the navigation options in settings. However, I have been using the Off Screen navigation Huawei (I think) introduced that allows all navigation to be achieved with the home button/fingerprint sensor using long and short touches and swipes. Very effective. Also, Pie introduced a better method for screenshots. However Huawei's method is the simplest and most effective I have ever encountered. A couple of knuckle taps on the screen. Never had a failed or accidental screenshot. Not one :)

Thr best screenshot method I’ve ever used is palm swipe on Samsung phones. It’s so easy to use.

The main feature of One UI is that it’s designed specifically for these new phones which are very tall. It brings down the area of the app/screen into the area of the screen that is easy for you to reach, meaning that you don’t have to stretch your hands or readjust your grip to get to elements that were at the top of the screen. It’s a completely new interface both functionally and visually.

I use an app called screenshot touch. Very reliable and easy to use. Can't do without it.

Have had the One UI update installed for a week now and have noticed consistently better battery life. Getting around and extra hour SOT each day.
I haven't checked my phone to see if it's available but a few I know in the area who are on the same carrier said they got it and upgrade was easy peasy lemon squeezy. I'd read Google worked with Samsung to incorporate some of the One UI features into Android Q, which is cool.

Though I read some people who found One UI disabled a few things Samsung got right with their layer over Android. I don't remember what, but looking into my browser history the only item I can find I've read is about something called Substratum which I've never read nor heard about for Samsung's variant of Android. I have not run into any other reported issues.
