Never used the Fold 3. But everything feels solid with the Fold 4… I’ve been eying this device for so long from checking out the rumors to get an understanding what Samsung plans to do. And now it’s here… I’m definitely pleased. I’m anxious to go on a family trip to test out the camera.

I believe you was interested in the Galaxy Buds… Have they arrived? how‘s the experience?

They've arrived, but I haven't opened yet. I'm leaning towards selling after the last Vergecast podcast. The microphone sounded sounded the worst of all headphones tested. I'm sure if they don't seel soon I'll end up opening, lol.

Interesting. I haven’t had anyone complain to me on a phone call with my Galaxy Buds Pro (maybe they are bad with Buds 2 Pro), but I stopped listening to the Vergecast when Dieter left. They all seemed heavily influenced by Apple/iPhone… don’t get me wrong, we all have our bias. But Dieter seemed more balanced out of the crew.

I finally got my Fold4. It’s my first foldable device and I like it so far. I really thought the crease would bother me but I don’t even notice it when scrolling through apps. I can feel it if I rub my hand but it’s a non-issue.

I do find the outer screen a little cramp. For what I read, it was even smaller on the Fold3, so I can only imagine what that experience was like.

But overall, it’s only been a couple of hours and so far, so good. I definitely see this type of device as the future.

Well, I got mine, today. In addition to what's pictured, I got the s pen pro which is coming Sat. Since I already have the galaxy watch 4, I didn't get the 5.

Well Samsung was quick to ship the free giftpack usually have to wait weeks for things like this to show up, if i knew it would have been this quick wouldn't have shelled out £31 for a case for the fold 4.... but the case i bought from Amazon came with a fitted front glass screen protector & cover for the hinge, giving the Fold 4 full all round protection though it does make it a lot more bulky but I will stick with this case for a while because of the protection.

Agree. Verge sucks without Dieter, and it still sucked when he was there just not as bad.

The Buds Pro 2 sound niiiiice listening to music. The 360 sound and ANC are great. I've only tested on one call so hard to tell much about the microphone but I honestly only use my buds to listen to music while working out or on a plane so won't be that big a deal to me. And I always have my Pixel Buds, Airpods Pro, Buds Pro 1, Buds Live, etc. to throw in my ears if I need something better for that one time I need to use them as a means of communication.

I agree. I was surprised the headphones sounded so good.

Packing up the Fold4 right now to send back. It really is an awesome device, but the pain is just too high not being in the Apple ecosystem. Here is my list of issues that drove me to this decision:

1. iMessage - yes I know I can make this work. but all of my friend, family..etc have iPhones. And I am the only one degrading their messaging experience, or asking them to use Google photos for full quality vids and pics. And don't get me started not the group text crap that I get ...ugh. ridiculous that Apple has not made this better, but I get it.

2. CarPlay - I have a 2019 Porche...which only supports CarPlay and no AndroidAuto. Tryin to text or even make calls in the car is downright dangerous. Also I had to go back to the Porsche navigation...which I forgot how bad it was..etc. Way too painful in the car using android..and android.

3. Beach - I am a frequent beach goer ...and jetski'er. So I would swap between the Fold and an iPhone. It is just too hard having stuff on each device. Especially text messages, different versions of texts...etc. I did find a way to sync each phone before the swaps. but just a pain in the butt. Apple keeps everything in sync across devices, seamlessly.

I wish there was easier integration between Apple/Android. But with everyone I know on Apple, I need to be as well.

I get it. iMessage is really the only thing that keeps me using an iphone. Right now I'm keeping my iPhone connected to wifi and seeing if it will work thru my apple id email address. The group chats are really the only reason I need it to work. I ordered a new MacBook Air M2 and am gonna try to get Airmessage up and working and see if that helps with the issue. I have a second line for my work number but I get tired of carrying around two phones. Ideally I'd like to just have both phone numbers routed thru my ZF4 or S22U.

I set my Apple ID email address to use with iMessage on my iPad. So, I can continue using iMessage threads with my family and friends. I tried the whole AirMessage and BlueBubbles set up, but the experience just isn’t the same... at least for me.

I know those iMessage alternatives for Android certainly work.. some just get a cheap Mac to use as a server. I carry a backpack with me everywhere I go… so it doesn’t really bother me keeping my iPad along with the Fold. But I do know most people prefer to travel light and iMessage alternatives on Android is the best solution. However, I applaud @geraldem for at least giving it a go.

I wish I could lug the ipad around all the time. That would surely make the transition easier. I'd been looking for an excuse to get an M2 Macbook Air anyhow lol so I'll try air message. I'm curious though once my number is inactive in an iphone will iMessage automatically know to reroute the messages to my Apple ID even if the sending person doesnt have my email. For instance any group chats I'm in with my phone number are they now broke or will it automatically send the messages to my Apple id?

On another note I can actually use the front screen now without making typing errors. Ideally I would like it a little wider still but it's amazing what a difference a few pixels of extra width makes. And it doesn't look nearly as long and skinny now. Really enjoying it along with the Watch5 Pro and Buds Pro2

Lug around? Lol… you speak as if it’s a brick.

But the process of using only your Apple ID email address as iMessage is tricky… first you have to make sure those in your contacts have your email saved. Because most people save the number for contacts and leave it as that… once the email is saved… start iMessaging them via email, so the transition can change.

This process helps keep existing iMessage threads open.

Lol well it kinda is if you use iMessage a ton. With all the sports teams I'm involved with with the kids and coaches chats there's alot of messages going back and forth. Not exactly convenient to use it as a constant messaging device when constantly on the go. That's the beauty of a device like the fold. Sadly iMessage will never open up so it's going to remain an issue. I guess if Apple ever did release a foldable I'd probably be happy with that even though I prefer android overall.

Yeah, but my thought process is I get a bigger screen as well.

I iMessage a ton, but it’s not as if I walk around holding up the iPad everywhere I go and exchange iMessage with people. If I do get an iMessage… I’ll respond when I want and I might not get to it immediately. But my iPad serves as laptop replacement as well.. so I can easily attach a Magic Keyboard and interact with iMessage that way. Therefore I get a communication device, tablet and laptop all in once.

And yeah, as you mention… it’s not necessarily convenient which is completely understandable.

Umm.. you have to decide that for yourself. I’m sure the trade ins might be pretty good, however.. not sure what the deals are now. Trade-ins were crazy good before release date.

But do I think it’s worth having a Fold 4? Yes… but foldables aren’t for everyone.

So far so good with Airmessage. Tested it out with my daughter's phone. Now to begin the process of making sure the people I need to iMessage with have my email address saved to my contract card. I'm sure they will all think I'm a total geek but whatever 😆
