Sweet! I kind of wish Samsung would advertise it much more and Galaxy users take advantage of it as well... that would result in more exposure to the platform.

I use UPerfect Y Monitor specifically for DeX... I tried using DeX on Windows, but realized it wasn't smooth compared to plugging it via a monitor.

I use my devices for web browsing, YouTube, emails and messaging as I suspect most people do. I have Dex available on 2 Samsung devices but never ever use it. Still not sure why the majority would need it.

Need it? It’s not based on need… if we are judging everything based on need then obviously that’s a short list.

Some people have a stylus compatible phone and never use the stylus… yet they miss out on the extra features that’s available to them. There’s no need to use DeX… but it’s an optional feature for those who care to use it.

Obviously I'm not criticising the existence of an additional feature but still fail to see how it could benefit me.

I completely understand you are not criticizing it, but it’s quite simple how it could benefit you... I think you trying to complicate it.

You mention browsing the web, YouTube, emails and messaging… you can do those activities with DeX on a larger screen compared to your phone. The best way I can describe it… is that DeX could replace having a tablet, but then some people might question the existence of a tablet when they could use a laptop instead.

Whaaaaaaa.. welcome back! So, no trade ins?

Nah got nothing I can trade in for what I would want to give up lol for what I can sell my iPad mini 6 it’s about 1100 for the fold. Which for me is acceptable I just wasn’t willing to spend 1650

This is one of the things I have found with Android when push comes to shove in an unusual event you can most times get it done opposed to hitting a brick wall with IOS

DeX can easily fall in to this category like many extra features you get on Android you may not use them on a regular basis but they are to hand and give that extra assurance

If I ever travelled without a laptop an Android tablet/phone would be my preference because of extra flexibility outside of a walled Garden

Two great phones. Really struggling on which way I want to go for my main. The fold is obviously much more capable but iphone integrates much nicer with my other apple hardware and nearly everyone I know who uses iphones also. I've also found watchOS to be much more smooth and polished over wearOS.

I go through this dilemma weekly. I incessantly switch between the Fold 4 and iPhone 13 Pro Max. I also swap between the Galaxy Watch Pro 5 and Apple Watch Ultra. The Fold is by far a better phone for me with it's drawing capability and larger screen but the iPhone just works better with the Apple Watch than Samsung's pair. My family all use iPhones and complain when they can't message me properly. iPhones have a way of locking messages to iMessage and sometimes I never receive SMS from my family.

My SIM is currently in the Fold 4 and I'm going to try and keep it there for the rest of this year (not long I know :) ).

That is interesting. Rest of my family is on iPhones but I've never missed a message simply being on Android. With the latest Google messages I actually don't feel like I'm missing much from iMessage. I have some level of message reactions, photos are hi def, and videos can be linked from Google photos to preserve quality. I don't get read receipts or see active typing but I can live without those iMessage features.

Agreed, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is probably the best Android watch, but not as good and not as well-supported as my previous Apple Watch 7.

I went digging today and found a setting on the iPhone for sending SMS when iMessage is not available. This was off on my Daughter's phone. Seems to have made a difference.

If I tell myself I don't have a 3rd phone I actually have a tablet it makes the whole process feel better :)

iphone 14 pro max
pixel 7 pro
Z fold 4

my current selection. I think it's rather likely I will get the s23 ultra to replace my pixel 7 pro if i'm honest.

I also want to try out either xiaomi 13 ultra or vivo 90 pro plus next year

I’m curious.. what do you mean by the iPhone and AW combination works better than the Samsung’s pair?

As far as the watchOS being better as a whole…. I completely understand that. But when it comes to having a seamless experience with my Samsung phone and watch, I don’t have any issues with it.

To each their own. Most of my family and friends are on iMessage with plenty of group chats amongst us. I gotta applaud Apple here… they have built a feature to lock in users.

I don’t look to message people on my Fold… most of my messages go through the iPad with iMessage, which seems strange. But it works.

Same here, I'm in various group chats everyday between my wife, daughter, parents, and college buddies. I am not feeling the loss of iMessage, other than not getting bubble pop ups on MacBook or iPad.

Don't get me wrong, I was initially concerned about how difficult this was going to be losing iMessage but in reality I haven't looked back and iMessage is certainly not going to be a reason that I ever return to an iPhone. Google Messages does have a web option if I want to access texts on other devices. Even better is the Verizon Message+ app which is cross platform and allows me to sync texts across my Android phone and MacBook/MacMini without having to do any tinkering or log into a website.

It’s a sub combination of little things. The biggest one for me is that Apple Watch remains connected over Wifi so I can outside my house well away from BT connection and still receive all notifications. Galaxy Watch breaks connection to the phone when you lose BT. The Mail integration is better. On the Galaxy Watch I receive a notification from Outlook which has no content, just the title text. It would be nice if it opened the full mail when I click on the notification but no.

I think it’s very close but overall I feel like Apple Watch feels more like a phone replacement.

Interesting. So did you turn the setting on on hers or off on yours?

We turned that setting on on her iPhone. With it off the iPhone kept sending messages to me in blue bubbles to my iCloud address. After forcing it to send SMS they turned green and successfully came through to my Fold.

Well, I'm a big proponent of stickers... particularly over bubbles and that doesn't translate well over non-iMessage. I think it provides a better experience for the whole group under an iMessage thread compared to non-iMessage thread, but kudos to you for breaking loose of iMessage.

Umm... when my GW breaks connection, I'm still capable of using WiFi and interact with certain apps. But I think getting notification has more to do with standalone apps installed on the watches, not necessarily about getting those notifications that was initially on the phone.

If anything, I chalk that up to developer support... not iPhone and AW are better paired. For instance, Nest is capable of sending AWs notifications snippets due to them implementing that on the AW platform. However, GW users receive a notification and to view the content they have to check the phone because Nest lack of support for wearOS.

Agreed, and Microsoft seems to be the worst. I might try the Samsung native Mail app on the watch. That used to work very well back in the Gear days. I'm not sure why Samsung ditched it and got into bed with Microsoft.

Dropped my fold 4 I was opening the display on wood flooring and to my relief no scratches or anything. Was that much of a drop the back cover came off. Luckily I had the Samsung official cover on. I need to be more careful barely had this a week
