I'll be upgrading from my Flip 4 to Flip 5, might even grab the 47mm Classic if trade-ins are decent. Here's some press material leaks. Glad to see the phone closes flat, unlike the dummy units that have been making the rounds. Also glad to see a full keyboard to reply to messages. I really hope this includes all messaging apps like Whatsapp.

I'm not into cases with my Galaxy Fold... but what are your thoughts? Will you look to buy these new Ring Cover case? Or a S-Pen Cover case?

I have already bought some in anticipation of the launch.

The flip is their bigger seller, so it's no surprise that the flip is the one with the bigger upgrade. Also no surprise most of the marketing has been about the Flip 5. Newest unpacked teaser from Samsung mobile now officially confirms, the Flip 5 closes completely flat. Just in case anyone had any doubts about the leaked press material.

That being said, I was so sure I would grab the Fold by the 4th or 5th year, but I'm just loving the compact Flip form factor way more than expected. Maybe I'll grab the Fold 6, and use it along side my Flip 5. But for now, bring on the official pre-orders. I'm ready to spend some money.

I’ve noticed that for the first time we have a reservation discount (£150). when going to Samsungs website here in the UK.

The blue color piques my interest because it'll match my S23U and 13 pro. I love using my Fold 4 but my critiques are still the camera which is why I added the blue S23U to my lineup. The Fold 5 being thinner and not having a gap is very interesting though but the camera will still hold me back.

I am also done with slab phones at the moment. iPhone really feels stale now no matter what they seem to be doing with it. Happy to try something different starting with the refined Fold.

Has anyone considered any of the alternatives such as the Honor 2, Huawei X2 etc? Just wondering on people's feedback on using these as an alternative to the Samsung Fold. Especially when phones like the Huwawei's offering is so thin.

The other brands that you mention could be having competitive and attractive hardware but because Samsung has been on it for the fifth generation the software integration might now be almost perfect.

There might be no point in buying bleeding edge product that has no fully matured software.

Huawei cannot put Google Play services on their phones and have no access to the Play Store. You get their alternatives but as far as I know not all apps are supported and of course the best apps, which are all made by Google - like Gmail, Maps, Photos, Docs, Authenticator etc. aren’t available.

Honor/Oppo/etc. are in a better situation but they’re still Chinese brands with all that supposes, like backdoors and spyware so the Chinese Communist Party can keep tabs on you.

Fair point. Shame as the Huwawei phone in particular is super thin. I just saw the Samsung Fold 4 in Harrods for the first time, got to admit it is really solidly built.

Has anyone had any comparison on a Google Pixel Fold against the Samsung Fold? That seems the only viable "UK compatible" competitor unless I'm missing any?

You can look thorough YouTube for comparison

I really would love a Fold but I saw the phone out in the wild for the first time yesterday and the folded screen is really too tiny and narrow. It looks like a remote control … shame they didn’t change the aspect ratio on the new one 🫠 maybe next year

Pixel Fold may be a solution to that?

I doubt I'll be buying anything (maybe the Galaxy Watch 6)... but I'm more interested in OneUI 5.1.1 presentation since it's coming to the rest of the foldable series.

Supposedly, we will be able to tweak the Taskbar... resize it along with adding more apps.
I'm wondering if they'll bundle in the Watch 6 with a purchase of the Fold or Flip. I'd be all over that.
