This is a substantial update. But I’m gonna wait until OPO reviews to decide.

I almost pulled the trigger on a Flip...they were going to give me $1000 for my S23U. That would make the Flip only $99...tempting. But I really love my S23U right now...

Yea, I wouldn't have pulled the trigger if this was my main phone.

I know this thread isn't about watches, but I'm curious if the Watch 6 Classic will still have as good of battery as the 5 Pro since it's a smaller battery size.
I think with a newer processor might help in the battery performance. The Watch 4 and 5 shared the same processor, that’s why I didn’t really care to upgrade.

Really? I had the exact opposite impression after reading about the changes and watching MKBHD’s video. The changes seem ever so incremental. And to be clear, I’m not passing any judgement on Samsung’s choices as incremental is pretty common from many OEMs nowadays but I was struck on how minimal the changes were.

Would love to here from users of the last generation of these products if they feel there’s enough new to warrant upgrading. These changes feel like they would appeal to someone using much earlier versions of these devices.

I do not need much encouragement to upgrade my F4 to F5 but given CPU upgrade which equates more to batter endurance IMO than processing power, slimmer and slimmer S Pen, better substrate to glass and 2 yeas bundled protection, its enough for me :)

In what way do you feel it is a substantial update? To those of us that have used Folds before it seems a bigger update than it is mainly due to the hinge.

To those coming into the folding "fold" (excuse the pun) it seems like a nominal improvement.

With the trade in deals… I can see an argument where Fold 4 to the 5 has enough features. We are looking at it from the standpoint of specs… but if the battery performance is as similar to S23U. Most smartphone users prioritize battery life and if the Fold 5 provides S23U level of battery life that could warrant Fold 4 users to upgrade.

Personally, I’m disappointed with no improvements to the UDC technology… I was hoping for better sensor. But it seems Samsung focused on performance and a slightly slimmer design… but we all know Fold 6 will be the one to grab!

New hinge provides essentially no gap and appears to be far stronger and more smooth to open and close. At least according to the hands-on vids I saw.

Much brighter inner screen.

10 grams lighter.

These are all great upgrades IMO.

Perhaps not enough for current GF4 owners. But certainly for older or new GF owners.

It is still a little disappointing that Samsung doesn't provide the same cameras as the S23 in these. The Fold should match the S23 Ultra at least. I can see for space reasons only two cameras on the flip but spec wise they are a definite step down.

Yep, I had said this in the Google Fold thread too. I'd actually be willing to pay $200-$300 more for equal specs to the S23 Ultra.

But we are getting the same camera specs as the regular S23… just not the Ultra.

And if we are asking for the Fold to match the S23U cameras… then the price will be much higher than it already is. We look at the price of the Fold series and want more out of it specifically Ultra level cameras, but forget that it’s a foldable display which gives us a tablet experience.

We are not paying to have the best camera (imo)… we are paying the premium to have a tablet experience.

Are those the cameras from the S23 though? IIRC, MKBHD said they are the exact same cameras as the Fold4, which predates the S23 and again, I thought I recall everyone saying they weren’t the same cameras as the S22 generation.

EDIT: So I took a closer look at the camera specs and the Fold5 seems to be exactly the same as the Fold4 which are definitely not the same as those as the S23 or even the S22 for that matter (main wide camera does appear to be same as S22 but other two are different). So again, camera appears to be at least two generations behind the main Galaxy phones.

All of the Fold phones not having flagship cameras is what’s keeping me from diving in, among other things. If I’m spending that kind of money, I better have flagship cameras.

Heck, I think S22 and S23 have the same cameras. As MKBHD once said, these days picture taking is mostly done by the software.

The iPhone and Pixel had the same main 12MP camera for years and yet are praised for their photo/video capabilities. And they both recently upgraded to 50MP.

Thanks! And the point I’m trying to make… at least here in the US from Pixel Fold and Z Fold, that they are not putting their best camera technology into a foldable. At least, not right now.

But if this upcoming foldable from OnePlus puts enough pressure on both Samsung and Google.. I could see that changing soon. Given their camera spec sheet is crazy... 48MP for main, 48MP for wide and 64MP for telephoto.

They should just release a Galaxy Fold Ultra along side the regular Fold for $2199 with all the bells and whistles that the S23 Ultra has. I'd buy that.

Yep I understand exactly what you were conveying... And again we would all like the best of the best in the foldable but we're not there yet.. I know a lot of us are impatient including myself and want everything spec to max ..haha

OnePlus hopefully pushes the foldables in the US... I will be watching closely along with everyone else here...

You would buy it and probably a few of us here... And everybody else would complain lol and they probably wouldn't sell enough of them... And I think having multiple foldable devices with different specs would not be worth it for Samsung

Oh for sure. My idea is simply for me and has no reflection on what kind of business decision it would be.

Buuuuuuuuuut......they may find more adopters to foldables than they currently have.

Well, actually, since the iPhone X the cameras, while maintaining 12MP they actually improved sensors every year.

But regardless, the flagship, most expensive phones from Apple also have the best cameras—that’s my only point. I’ll agree with @mjschabow I’d like the option for an Ultra version.
