I am disappointed with the battery life on the phone tbh

I thought it would last much longer than it does. I have loads of things turned off and I only get about 5 hours heavy use

5 hours of Screen on time (SOT) or 5 hours of use, period? if the latter, you have a defective unit.

For what it's worth, I think this phone has great battery life. It lasts me all day, and that's all I care about. I don't compare SOT values because I never get good SOT. I regularly get 3.5-4 hours of SOT during a day but I get ALL day battery life which is exactly what I want. The phone gets unplugged around 630am and goes until 10-1030 when I plug it back in at night. I usually have 15%-20% battery remaining at that time. This phone is the first android phone I've had that gets me all day battery life.

And I don't have anything really turned off. I have auto brightness on, Bluetooth on (synced all day to my LG Watch Sport), NFC, Location, etc. all turned on

Yep, I have been experiencing great battery life, slightly better than my S7 Edge actually despite the heavier usage and larger+higher res display.

I get around 6-7hours SOT, but then again, most areas I am in these days have fantastic signal, my network operator has been pulling it's socks up it seems, THAT OR the Note8 is just brilliant at maintaining a great signal while using less power than S7 Edge.

not bad at all! I think my main point to @vine-boating is to not focus solely on SOT stats. They vary widely among users and to compare that number alone will allow a person to never be happy :)

Very true!

I mean the reason I get a high SOT is due to constantly texting, watching YouTube videos before bed as well as some series. I also test client landing pages on my phone at work to check how they are in mobile as well as checking emails when home etc etc....

My phones spend a lot of time with their screens on.

In a day I've barely use the phone I'll probably end the day with like 3hours SOT and well over 20hours off charge.

What's interesting is that I feel like I use my phone all the time but then end the day with like 3.5 hours of SOT. It's strange. But it lasts all day and I never have to worry about it, so I'm happy!

My unit may be defective then? perhaps should ask for an exchange.....

Well I just looked at my phone's battery and it is is on 74% currently - 7 and a half hours since it was last charged....

I have lightly used it though....just checked football scores, reading quiet a few web pages etc,,,
I haven't got bluetooth turned on or NFC since I'm not using them at the moment.

that doesn't sound defective. losing 26% in that time frame sounds like normal usage. what's your previous phone for frame of reference?

also, trying to help clarify your previous statement, are you getting 5 hours of TOTAL battery life, i.e. 100% - 0% in 5 hours? or 5 hours of Screen on Time (SOT)? If 5 hours of SOT, that's a good number, IMO.

I am not even sure what I meant lol!

I am going to monitor my usage now....I am not obsessed with the battery life...because like you said as long as I lasts the whole day then I am fine. I don't really care how much exact battery I am getting...just want to make certain that I do not have a faulty unit!

Do you an anti virus or battery app on your note 8?

gotcha. good to know. Yeah, in practice, just dont worry about it unless you are not getting a full day. If not, then you can start figuring out what's going on.

No, I don't use a virus scanner or battery app on my Note 8. They're not worth it on Android, IMO. There is a device maintenance section in settings (unless you have the Verizon variant) that watches out for rogue apps running in the background, etc. I do have that enabled but beyond that, I don't have any 3rd party battery apps.

I am using Textra and WhatsApp on my Note 8 for texts and am trying to figure out how to make Textra the default messaging app on my connected Gear S3 Classic. I am on ATT. Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution? I disabled the stock messaging app and Textra is my default but I am still receiving the message on my S3 to enable Messages as default app in order to receive text messages. I can see my responses but no incoming messages on my watch.

I was able to receive my textra messages just fine on my S3 without it telling me to use the default samsung messages. I could reply and everything. The only time it'd ask me to switch to samsung messages was when I'd try to start a message from my watch. But I rarely did that, so it never really asked me to switch. Are you only getting it when trying to start a message from the watch (compared to replying)?

EDIT: mine was only the wifi version, so I don't know if there are differences with a cellular connected version and different phone number, etc.

I have no scratches on the screen after one month of use.
I got one good scratch right away on my Note 8 and promptly went into Best Buy to have a Zagg HD glass protector installed. I always had lots of micro scratches on my iPhones so I must just be extremely hard on my screens . I have also noticed that the S3 is much more durable than my Apple Series 2. I am rough on my watches; my Series 2 aluminum was a scratched-up mess after the first month of use while.my Gear S3 Classic looks fantastic (and also has MUCH better battery life). No complaints here...

Yeah mine is cellular connected and I get the message every time I open messaging on the watch. Maybe a cellular problem? I suspect Textra may need to offer a specific Gear app.

Only when you actually click on the messages app on the watch? Yeah, mine did that too. But when I merely responded to a message, it never made me switch. I just never touched the messages app on the watch and only interacted with messages via notifications

Here are some pro mode camera tips for Note 8 users...we are lucky to have this feature in our devices on an already amazing camera.

Yep, the camera capability on the Note 8 is quite good. The Pro Mode is great... the ability to have add-ons like Sports Mode... and one of my favorites is the ability to drag the shutter release button around on the screen which is very valuable for selfies.

I still cannot get over how fast Auto Focus is on these Samsung phones. It's nuts!
