Not sure about it being delicate. The whole phone is glass, just like the new iPhones. If you drop it on something hard its probably going to break. As for iPhones prices being crazy, the Note 8 is not exactly cheap. Its more expensive than all iPhones except the X.
I am so lucky then

I got the Note 8 on an upgrade deal where I pay £49.50 a month

A lot of other networks were charging at least £60

Thanks for the reply. A bit OT but I am also actually tempted by the S8 (£512 on Amazon UK) or S8+ (£600)...

Thanks. I’ve just downloaded it and I’ve been able to download the videos.

We don’t have youtube red in the uk.
It's not YouTube Red. I don't pay for anything, but I am able to download.

Do you not have this option on yours?

Alright, I have $100 to spend at Best Buy. I already have the wireless charger and SD card gift coming from Samsung. What other accessories would you recommend? I'm thinking of maybe using it towards the Gear For 2 Pro but not 100% sure on that.

Not sure if it's been asked in here before but is it vital to download some kind of anti-vrus like Avast or something? Or will the phones own security be enough?
The phone's own security is enough.

In my 7years with Android, I've never needed or used an Antivirusas long as you download your apps from PlayStore, if you do go outside of PlayStore ensure its trusted sources, you will be fine.

I did download avast yesterday but deleted it. I just hope the phones own security is back on. Because I couldn't find the option for it, like when I had to turn it off to put Avast on.

I can't get all that for $100!

I do like the S3. Though the Sport looks pretty sharp too. I like the Gear Fit price though. I'm between jobs so not swimming in cash at the moment.

Personally...I don't feel the need to run anti virus on phones. It just takes up resources running in the background and doesn't justify itself. Samsung has Knox and Google has scanning in the Playstore and on your phone. Me personally I feel that is enough.

I know, I was suggesting things I bought and use with my Note 8.

I used to use anti virus software but Google has now got an app scanner built into the play store. So it's not needed anymore imo.

I don’t agree with that assessment. There have been multiple cases of fake, bad, or insecure apps having been pulled after they made their security policy changes.

While I don’t subscribe to needing antivirus on my devices, I think it is a good idea to evaluate if you even need a specific type of application on your device before you install it. If you do, and don’t have a trusted favorite, look for reviews on that type of application from one of the well known Android sites, then find the play store link from the actual developer’s website.

Also, if you are not comfortable with the amount of Android access the application needs (asking for contacts, or personal information), simply don’t install it. It’s not a fool proof way to ensure your device is safe, but, it does cover some bases.

Am I missing something? Why is there a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 thread on an Apple forum?

I own the Note 8 and have just purchased the iPhone SE as a source device for the Oppo HA-2-SE DAC-Amp. That is why and how I came across this forum. Very surprised to find the Note 8 being debated here? I don't recall ever seeing an Apple thread on an Android forum? Very adult civilised behaviour. Not generally the way between Apple and Android brands. Nice to be here.

Can Chrome be used on the SE and can I log into my Google chrome account and download all my favourites etc?

Kind regards,

Ryland

My point would be when there are several well respected, tried and proven free AV apps, such as Avast, WHY take the risk? I don't think extra insurance is ever a negative.

Of course this is a personal choice.

Yeah it is nice to have the Alternative section here on MR. We can discuss Android and other things here. Most of us own lots of Apple products too and iphones. So we use both mobile OSes.
