Well since Dave had the same things asked of him, let me explain in a shortened version because I have a meeting starting soon.

There are certain things about the S Ultra series that pull me in, and the ability to control the camera shutter with the S-Pen is one of them. And now that's gone. Of course I don't have that on my iPhone right now, but I'm also wanting to leave Apple permanently and am trying to weight the pros and cons between different Android devices.
Why not just control the camera shutter on your iPhone with your Apple Watch?

I currently do but I’m looking to leave Apple and potentially stop wearing watches altogether. lol
Ha I feel naked without my watch. I don’t use it a ton for notifications but a lot of other things. You will get essentially the same functionality with slightly lesser camera quality in my opinion if you switch. I think it will be just like your one night stand with the 9 Pro XL unless you go with something completely new to you that might add to your workflow like a foldable. OnePlus open 2 looks to be a beast when it comes out.

K. For the record, the last time I switched, I switched for almost 10 months before switching back. I know the narrative of "you won't last a week" is funny, but it's actually far from reality.
This is like deja vu with you.....
How many times have we watched you through this exercise? Isn't it a yearly event now?

I think you should stick with what you know and love. Apple and the iPhone hold an emotional and intellectual hold on you. It is a nice comfortable space for you and there is nothing wrong with that!!!
But then you see the flagship Android phones and get FOMO.

Personal observation, just stick to the iPhone and all of its pros and cons.....or carry 2 phones like me!

I had the same mindset as you for the last year, don't like Apple as a company. Don't make your life more difficult for no good reason, it's not worth it. It isn't ideal but the best solution is to use two phones. Leave your iPhone as your main phone.

Not sure who your carrier is, T-Mobile has the Digits app that forwards all calls to another phone with a flick of a toggle. iPhone and Android ring simultaneously if you choose. For messages, BlueBubbles handles iMessages with all features, and SMS messages like verification texts.

I switch phones daily when I feel like it. My iPhone is irreplaceable for many tasks (live activities are amazing) and Android is irreplaceable for other tasks (earbuds that support higher quality codecs, DC dimming at night, Gboard with translation). No shame in using two devices, you'll stop wasting time with what ifs / waffling and really enjoy the best of both worlds. So go get that S25 Ultra!

Traded in my S24U and managed to get the S25U for £321. Happy with that.

Apparently Samsung are saying that they pulled the Bluetooth feature of the S-Pen because only 1% of people used them 😳

In the UK you can get at least three Chinese Android flagships that are cheaper and with better hardware. The only place the Ultra wins is on software support length.

Yea I believe we can get phones such as the One Plus. I think Huawei phones are banned tho. I could be mistaken on that tho.

IF and it's it's a big IF, this turns out to be true, even Apple will be making more changes to their iPhone 17 than Samsung have with the S25 lineup. Altho looks more like a Pixel had a baby with an iPhone 😂

I don’t think that is real. I cannot see Apple ever copying after someone else. They always wanna have a unique look.

There are features on the S25 that weren't announced at the event. Samsung is using Google's Best Take feature that is on the Pixel devices. I don't remember that being announced at the event 🤔

Well that's about time. That camera stove have been there since 2019.

Besides the camera layout I think Samsung changed pretty much everything you can change, the sides are now flat and the corners are rounded.

They have in that sense, I'm just not a fan of the S25 Ultra design. But there are people who love it, design can be subjective and it's down to taste.
The only thing they have changed on the camera is the ultrawide, the main camera is still the same as the S24 Ultra. The only pictures that will probably look better are the Ultra wide pictures.

The big changes are all AI, which on Samsung's website it states are only going to be free until the end of 2025! after that there will probably be a subscription to use them, Google's Gemini Advanced is given for 6 months and again after that it will require a subscription to use those features.

So the UW isn't just more pixels but it's also a wider aperture which really should make low light better.

Im my own opinion, the cameras on the s24u were already great it's the setting of the exposure/processing which I think causes people to have problems. That can be changed in software and already has been improved since it launched.

Indeed taking photos in pro mode on the s24u is a different experience than on the full auto and I've been wowed by some of the results I've had from it.

All of which is just to say, I'm ok with incremental change as long as they keep improving the software.

In fact hardware wise I'm way more annoyed by the continuing truly awful lens flare on the iphone!

I could see them removing the s-pen altogether in the future. Only a small percentage of people use it. It could still be available but just not have an internal slot.

Rumours they are adding silicone batteries next year so I could see it happening. Be like s21 ultra where it’s compatible but not in device

I'm interested to know why, beyond a stat bump users are upgrading. This isn't a knock, its just Samsung seemed to have really phoned it in this year with a pretty lazy update. The S24U from last year was pushing it as an upgrade over the S23U; this year they got rid of the cool stylus functions and called it a day. If I was looking at coming in cold £$600 on an S23U would get you a better phone for less than half the price.

Thanks for the info that’s off putting. At least with other handsets like the OP13 they are only using the barebones AI stuff from Google.

Idunno. There have been so many leaks with a design that looks like this. I hope it's real. I much prefer the look of the Pixel camera cutout than the iPhone. They look nearly identical on the front but the back side of the Pixel looks much better to me.
